Friday: Unofficial First Post!
Hi everybody. I'm Steve Marculaitis, the new writer for Tuesdays. Now, you're probably wondering why I'm writing on Friday. Well, I'm filling in for the usual writer while at the same time writing my first post. Unofficially, that is.
So to tell you guys a little bit about me in Bullet form:
Now before we get to the concepts I must tell you to do one important thing: vote for COTW!
On to the concepts!
Positives: The traditional design of the Jersey set is nice for a college with a rich hockey history and the concept is fairly clean.
Positives: Can't go wrong with a throwback for a third jersey, especially breaking out the old gold.
Positives: The use of the alternate logos of Oregon (The duck profile, "ducks" script) instead of the plain "O" logo. it really gives the jerseys character. Also, the wings as a whole arm yoke design is an interesting concept. it reminds me of the Grand Rapids Griffins pre-edge jerseys with the wing design in the yoke.
So to tell you guys a little bit about me in Bullet form:
- Graphic design student at Youngstown State University
- Plays on the ultimate frisbee team at YSU
- Started doing hockey concepts on the former Puckdrawn concept site.
- Started on HJC in 2012.
Now before we get to the concepts I must tell you to do one important thing: vote for COTW!
COTW Dec 27 - Jan 2 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Gatineau Olympiques Top 3 vote (ends Friday @ 10:59pm Eastern)
On to the concepts!
Ben Shaffer- UNO(NCAA)
Positives: Very clean execution with references to the logos and the ID all on the concept without it looking cluttered. The classic look of the jersey has a Blackhawks feel to it, but that Rangers style yoke stripe makes all the difference.
Negatives: The TV (sleeve) numbers could come down on the arms a few inches.
Overall: 7.5/10 While it does look similar to a Blackhawks jersey, it's a great concept.
Jack Studley- Boston College
Negatives: To start, there are no TV numbers. Also, the lettering and numbers look like you copy-and-pasted them onto the jerseys, which gives it a rushed or half-done look. Finally, the collar areas also have a copy-paste feel with the name tags.
Overall: 6/10 Take your time and put a little more effort into the details on your future concepts. If you need help with the TV numbers, there's a tutorial on that under the "tutorials" link.
Jack Studley- BC 3rd
Negatives: Like I said about your other concept, take the time to do the TV numbers and make a nameplate and back number with a text tool.
Overall: 6/10
Mario Ardais- Oregon Ducks
Negatives: as cool as this concept is, it's kind of rough. I suggest maybe a higher resolution in the software that you are using. Also, The nameplate and numbers are not proportionate. You have too big of a gap between the numbers and nameplate.
Overall: 6.5/10 Good idea, but you need to make your concepts cleaner.
Nolan O'Brien- Toronto Maple Leafs
Positives: The combination of eras to create two unique jerseys really works. The use of the white block "T" on the blue jersey looks really clean with the plain blue maple leaf outlined in white on the shoulders. Also, cool one hundred year anniversary logo.
Negatives: The stripes on both jerseys are rough. With a simple design like this those stripes have to be clean and smooth. Also, it would be nice to have a contrasting background color for the white jersey.
Overall: 7/10 Great idea, but it needs to have clean lines.
Taylor Roy- St. Cloud State Huskies
Positives: With a team that has a logo similar to the Montreal Canadiens, it would make sense to base the jersey off of the Canadiens. This jersey, however, has the perfect combination of the white design and the red design mixed together to create a unique new set.
Negatives: The only complaint is that you get rid of the hem stripe. The jersey would look less busy without it.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE
I hope you guys enjoyed my (unofficial) first post. Thanks again to Ryan for picking me as a new writer and I'll see you guys next time!

Steven! Glad you've joined the writing team! I remember when you'd send concepts to my old personal blog years ago. Welcome and great first post!
Taylor R. for COTW
Welcome Steve & Steven!!
TRoy got a lot of COTW NOM's so I'll go with Nolan O'Brien's - TOR concept for COTW. I love those ideas, especially the white jersey. I hate the Leafs but I'd buy the crap out of that. Good job!
Welcome other Steve(n)!
