Friday: Best Remaining Jerseys

So far this week three writers have posted their ideal looks for the four teams remaining in the NHL Playoffs.  I thought I do something different and rank who of the remaining teams currently has the best home, road, third, and fourth jerseys.  Let's get started...

Best Home Jersey
1)  St. Louis Blues
2)  Tampa Bay Lightning
3)  San Jose Sharks
4)  Pittsburgh Penguins
This was an easy decision for me, as I think the Blues home jersey is much better than the home jerseys of the other three teams.  The rest of the list fell into place fairly easily as well.

Best Road Jersey
1)  St. Louis Blues
2)  Tampa Bay Lightning
3)  San Jose Sharks
4)  Pittsburgh Penguins
My ranking for the road jerseys is identical to the home jerseys, which shouldn't be a big surprise since each team has matching home and road jerseys.

Best Third Jersey

1)  Pittsburgh Penguins
2)  San Jose Sharks
3)  St. Louis Blues
4)  Tampa Bay Lightning
There wasn't much of a contest for my favourite third jersey either, Pittsburgh's vintage jersey was an easy choice.  My toughest decision was where to rank the Blues third jersey, I almost had it last but in the end I decided it was better than the Lightning's black jersey.

Best Fourth Jersey

1)  San Jose Sharks
The Sharks are the only team remaining to wear four jersey this year, so they win best fourth jersey by default.  It's a good jersey though, so it deserved to win.

It turns out these were all easy decisions for me.  If you disagree, feel free to leave your own rankings in the comments.

Today (like last Friday and all future Fridays) is a transition day for COTW voting, one vote ends and another begins.  The new poll is on the side of the page, so go place your vote.

COTW May 13-19 vote (ends Friday, May 20 @ 12pm Eastern)

Toronto Furies vs Buffalo Beauts, by Vaughn R and William B:
Our first concept today is part of Vaughn and William's Pairs Competition entry.  I mostly like Buffalo's jersey, the striping looks pretty good and the back bison is a cool feature.  I don't like the cut-off front stripe though, I'd prefer no hem stripe at all.  Also the front number doesn't match back and sleeve numbers.  The Toronto jersey is a bit too plain for my tastes, and I don't like the logo without the leaf.  However I do like the choice to use grey as the main colour.
Rating: 7/10

London Knights vs Erie Otters, by Vaughn R and William B:
Vaughn and William also created an OHL match-up for their entry into the Pairs Competition.  I think green is the Knights most important colour, but this jersey doesn't use enough of it.  From a distance the jersey looks just black and gold (and white).  The Otter's jersey is nice and colourful though, I like that.  The striping pattern for both jerseys is good, however the arm stripes on the Otter's jersey are thinner than the hem stripes.  Also the logos look a tad small.
Rating: 7/10

Grand Rapids Griffins, by Ryan C:
Next up is Ryan with a new set for the Griffins.  I think this striping pattern is very good, however there is one small detail that bugs me.  The hem stripes are outlined in black but the arm stripes are separated from black, which in my opinion looks awkward.  The roundel logo itself looks alright, however it's sized a bit too big.
Rating: 7/10

Binghamton Senators, by Ryan C:
Ryan's second concept today is for the AHL's Binghamton Senators.  The striping looks great, the thick middle stripes are a common pattern for the Senators (NHL or AHL), but the thin black and gold add some uniqueness.  The number font is a good choice, it's much better than their current font and it's similar to the Ottawa Senators font so it fits the brand.
Rating: 8/10

Chicago Blackhawks, by Lucas D:
The Blackhawks entered the NHL wearing black and white uniforms, which Lucas uses as inspiration for this throwback/fauxback jersey.  Comparing this concept to the original jersey, I like these arm and hem stripes better, however I prefer the original yoke (specifically how the yokes stripes go all the way to the top of the jersey).  Also this jersey could use some stitching on the torso.
Rating: 8/10

Pittsburgh Penguins, by Josiah B:
I'm normally a big fan of Josiah's concepts, but I can't say I like this Penguins concept.  My main complaint is that the blue looks forced, and I also think the blue and yellow should be separated.  I don't like the yellow numbers on the white jersey either, they make the jersey too yellow.  I think this idea has potential, but more work is needed to make the blue fit in.
Rating: 7/10

Pittsburgh Penguins, by Jordan R:
Jordan also sent in a Penguins concept, and his home and road jerseys are pretty much what they're expected to wear next year.  There are a few minor changes though including adding shoulder logos and a much improved hem for the road jersey.  The yellow third and blue fourth jerseys are good additions to this set.  I also like the presentation of this concept, specifically the use of the house and airplane to indicate the home and road jerseys.  However the sock stripes are up too high.
Rating: 8/10

University of Minnesota, by Ben S:
Our post ends with this Golden Gophers concept from Ben.  The striping pattern is very nice, I especially like the yoke design on both jerseys.  There's really nothing I don't like design wise, if I was being very nit-picky I'd say I don't like the thin white line on the collar, but that's an extremely minor complaint.  The execution is good except for the sock stripes which are too high up.
Rating:  8/10

--------------------------------------------------

There were some good concepts today, but none of them stood out enough to get my COTW nomination.  If you think I'm wrong, then leave your own nomination in the comments.

That's all folks!
