Saturday: A Weekly Cat Thrashing

*It's just a blog post title. I do not thrash cats or any animals, nor do I promote it. So settle down!*

The winner of the COTW vote for May 20-26 was Jordan R...wait we knew that. He had all three nominated concepts. But which one was the winner...

Congrats Jordan even though I already said it last week. Was it the concept that you thought would win? Was it the concept that you wanted to win? Which of your own concepts did you vote for?

---------------------------------------------------------

The new COTW nominees for the week of May 27 - June 2 have been listed on the side of the page. Yes, there are 9 nominees in total. Without any concepts thirded there was no logical way to trim down the list to under 6. To avoid a tie I will wait to vote until the last minute or even after the deadline has passed. I will then place my vote and break a tie if necessary.

You can vote too, if you are logged into a Google account. Voting is on the side of the page in the black poll and runs until Friday at noon Eastern time. Good luck to all nominees.

The winner of the Atlanta Thrashers ReDesign was Lucas D!

Surprisingly this was Lucas' first competition win! Nicely done Lucas. As you can see the vote was extremely close. There were three concepts that could have won right up until the final vote. Lucas' winning entry has now been placed in the COTW vote.

Here are the latest entries into the 2016 HJC Open Logo Competition...

There are no new entries as of this writing. (Sad face)

You have until June 10 at noon Eastern to get your entries in.

Everyone has likely seen the new Florida Panthers uniforms by now. I'm still undecided how I really feel about them. I'm going to break down my thoughts into things I like and things I don't like.

LIKE
  • Number & NOB font
  • Updated leaping Panther logo
  • Captain's notation on the shoulder patch
  • Their version of Florida's state flag
  • Full Panther secondary logo
  • Sticking with relatively the same colour scheme
  • Primary logo alternates between FLORIDA and PANTHERS depending on jersey

DISLIKE
  • Location of secondary logo and TV numbers
  • Updated leaping Panther logo is stronger than new primary logo. They should be switched
  • Are shield shape logos soon to become the new roundel logos in the NHL?
  • Chest stripe seems too easy to do. Almost lacks creativity

So I suppose there are more good things than bad things. The one dislike that really sticks out to me is the placement of the secondary logo and TV numbers. It really isn't working. I like that they tried to do something a bit different, but it just didn't work. I would have preferred if the secondary logo was places in the arm stripes and the TV numbers could then stay on the shoulders or rest in the typical spot. I'll give this new jersey set a 7.5/10

The reason I like the placement of the secondary logos is because of the "theme" they took on with the military notion. I feel like it would have worked better if there was a more obvious look but I do like the move.

@Dylan They could have done the same thing with the TV numbers in the right place. Just put the captain insignia over the TV numbers and it's fine. I hate having it there especially since it doesn't it look like it fits there. The Panthers/Florida script on top looks dumb and unnecessary.

I think you forgot a dislike. Chest stripe doesn't go fully around. That irks me. The jerseys already look plain and unimaginative, so making that bold move was dumb. I do have to agree with the rest of your points however. It really isn't a bad look. 7-7.5 is what I'd give it.

For me it's the secondary logo completely that is the worst thing about their rebrand. So much going on there and no cohesion. I get the military stripes theme but this just seemed like three different ideas literally stacked on top of each other. Plus the crouching panther screams Jacksonville Jaguars to me.

For the COTW nominations it's CBJ, not CLM. And even then CLB would be better. It took me 4 minutes to figure out which concept was the Blue Jackets one...
