Thursday: 12 New Concepts

I'm sure most of you know what I talk about when I reference specific parts of a jersey. However, there may be some people that don't. So, I have provided a diagram of a jersey and have labeled its parts, as I know them to be named.

Tyler G., a frequent HJC contributor, has started up his own blog. You can check it out here.

Today is the last day for Committee Members to vote on the COTW...
COTW May 7-13 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)
Video Game Comp Top 4 vote (ends Sunday @ 11:59pm EST)

-----------------------------------------------------

St. Louis Blues concept (by Jeremy T.)
I like the numbers that Jeremy has used for this concept (90's Caps numbers?), they fit the Blues well. I also like how he has the stripes fade at the back where the number is. I don't like how those lines extend beyond the template's borders. I personally would also like to see some more yellow, as a secondary colour, on this concept. 5/10

Vancouver Canucks concepts (by NB14)
NB14 has provided Canucks jerseys in the pre-Edge colour scheme. Nicely executed. 6/10

Markham Bulls concepts (by WinnipegJets96)
*Jets96 has provided his own description.
I like the jerseys, but not the idea. 7/10

Los Angeles Kings concept (by Kirk)
Kirk has mashed together a bunch or Kings' eras in this concept. I'm not really a fan of this one. I don't care for the purple chosen, the white hem trim, or the yellow on the back yoke. I think a small amount of black trim would help the muted yellow jump out a but more. Execution looks good. 6/10

Los Angeles Kings concepts (by Brady)
This logo with these jerseys only say Manchester Monarchs to me. Perhaps the lion would be better suited as a shoulder patch and a more obvious Kings' logo as primary? The execution is good except for the lack of TV numbers. 7/10

Dallas Stars concepts (by Elias)
The first version of this concept was posted a few weeks back. Elias took some of my comments and made adjustments. I think green as the primary colour is a good choice and the only thing left to do now is add a very small trim to the numbers. White on the green jersey and vice versa. 8/10

Lukko SM-liiga concept (by Spirit104)
Lukko uses a "Buffa-slug" looking jersey right now. This would be a cool 3rd jersey option. This is one of those odd occasions where I like a very "Reebok looking" jersey. I like the orange under the arms sleeves and yet this still looks like a black jersey. Great execution too. 9/10

Montreal Canadiens concepts (by Tyler G.)
Tyler has Edge-ified a white 40's Habs jersey. Execution would be perfect except the colour of the pants isn't the same as the blue used on the jerseys. I love getting concepts from you guys, and I know I'm going to come off as an asshole, but what's the purpose of sending in this jersey? 5/10

New York Rangers concept (by Brian D.)
The yoke reminds me of the WHA's Golden Blades. It's quite unique, but I also think it makes the team look rather regal. I like almost everything here except I think the hem stripes could have been toned down a bit. I looks slightly like the yoke and hem stripes are fighting for your attention. 8/10

Carolina Hurricanes concepts (by Thomas L.)
I like the red jersey. It's funny how two people can have almost the same idea. Tyler had nearly the same one posted yesterday, but these guys had no idea they were each doing the same Canes' concept. I'm not a fan of the white jersey and I think it's because of the yoke. I'd like to see just a red yoke outline or have the red yoke outlined in black. 7/10

Ottawa Senators concepts (by Ian V.)
Talking about doing nearly the same concept, just wait until you see the one after this. I think both the home and road jerseys a really sharp here. The white one reminds me of the original white Sens sweater, but updated in a nice way. I would just switch the colours of the hem stripe on that white jersey. I don't like that 3rd too much. It looks like a mish-mash of pieces. 8/10

Ottawa Senators concepts (by Steven G.)
Just like I said, the home and road are very similar to the ones above. The one obvious difference is the awesome sublimated barber pole pattern! Steven has also used the under-utilized updated side profile logo. COTW nom from me as this is near perfection! 9/10

That purple thing with the Lion looks a lot like the old San Jose Rhinos of the now defunct RHI.

I'm pretty sure Tyler is actually right when he uses that shade of blue for the pants: http://www.nhluniforms.com/Canadiens/Canadiens28.html and http://montrealtourismsvt.com/wp-content/uploads/montreal-canadiens-at-bell-centre.jpg

It always struck me as weird that they'd use a lighter blue on the pants but at the same time kinda unique. And in defense of Tyler, I agree that they road could use some upgrades and I think he did a nice job, although I question the inclusion of the home as well. Other than that, though, I thought it was a good tweak (not necessarily a concept, and because of that you may have a point, Ryan).
