Wednesday: Eight Concepts and Some Votes
Hello HJC readers, this is Steven G. I'll be the one responsible for posting your Wednesday posts from now on (until Ryan is ready to take over full-time again). I'd like to thank Ryan for trusting me to be one of the five new HJC writers. I look forward to working with Ryan, and the new writers too (Dylan, Jets96, Thallos, and Colin). I know none of us new writers are going to be just like Ryan, so I hope you folks accept us for who we are. There may be a few bumps along the road, but I'm sure this blog continue to be the best place for hockey concepts.

There are two votes going on right now, the COTW and the Stars Comp. The Stars Comp has a new rule, so make sure you read all the info on the Stars Comp page. Remember to get your votes in if you are a Committee member.

Riga Reign (by Dustin F.)
This is another team in the fantasy hockey league that Dustin is involved in (same with the Seattle concept below). Unlike Ryan, I'm still a fan of chest stripes, but I think it should be lowered a bit so that the logo is centered over top of the chest stripe. Speaking of the logo, I think the "REIGN" word-mark could use a thin white outline to make it stand out more. Other than that, I really like the logo and also the colours used. 7/10
Calgary Flames (by Cody)
I appreciate the creativity with the flame-stripe, but I don't think it's working on this concept. Maybe if the flame-stripe was more along the side (like side panels) it would be better. I also think the sleeves need something because right now they're quite bare. Execution wise, the numbers are off-center due to the flame-stripe, but in real-life they would still be centered. 5/10
Minnesota Wild (by Brian B.)
This is a great looking concept. If you've read my blog, you probably know I'm a big fan of green and I love this colour scheme. That being said, I don't think the Wild should look anything like the North Stars. They're two different franchises and they should keep the histories and identities separate. If Brian changed this to a Dallas Stars concept I'd give it a much higher rating, but right now I can't be a fan of it. 6/10
Milwaukee Admirals (by Brady)
I like the striping patterns on all three jerseys. The home and road make good use of cuff-stripes, and the third looks very 90's-ish but in a good way. I think the blue is too bright though, I'd recommend using the colours from Colorwerx. I also think the logos on all three jerseys are a bit too big, and I think black numbers would stand out better on the home jersey. 7/10
Detroit Red Wings (by Stephen T.)
First of all, I'm not a fan of the white sleeves on the home and third. The red sleeves on their current jerseys are meant to represent "Red Wings", and with this concept that symbolism is lost. I also don't like the double outlines on the numbers. I do like the decision to move the hem stripe on the home jersey up above the hem. A few execution notes; on the full-body templates some of the shading wasn't coloured properly, and on the road jersey the back of the collar is left white. 6/10
Seattle Bears (by Dustin F.)
I like this logo for the Seattle Bears. The jerseys are good too, but I think the white jersey is better than the dark jersey. The thin stripes can get lost on the dark jersey, especially if you were looking at the jersey from a distance. I'd recommend making the stripes at least twice as thick. Also, I'd move the TV numbers closer to the shoulder. Besides those details, I like the rest of this concept. 7/10
Peoria Rivermen (by Fabio)
I like the shoulder patch, the striping on the sleeves, and even the lighter blue pants and helmet. Unfortunately, the nickname-logo combined with all the piping makes this look like a minor-league jersey (I know the Rivermen are a minor league team, but they don't have to look like one). I'd like this concept much more with a different logo and the piping removed. 7/10
Vancouver Canucks (by Thomas H.)
Once again I'm a big fan of the colour green, and as a Canucks fan I'd have no problem with these. The logos and the striping both look good. The one thing I don't like is the coloured mesh area on the road jersey. Execution is good, but I'd like to see some TV numbers. 8/10
