Monday: Bye, Bye, Black Islanders!

Welcome to the Monday Post!

Hope everyone enjoyed the Stadium Series so far (and didn't puke at the Ducks jerseys), so far we've had a shut out and a blow out, not bad considering one of the games was in the middle of California. The jerseys looked good in action, at least compared to the stills, and it looks like the Islanders are sticking with the Stadium Series jersey as an alternate for the season.

Not a bad choice. I like both jerseys, I know most if not all of you reading hate the Islanders black jersey, but still, the Islanders' Stadium Series jersey has been, more the most part, praised, but we'll see, the move to Brooklyn may be a chance for the Islanders to do a new third jersey while incorporating the partial NY logo.

This is it, the big one, so big you can't even fathom it. The COTY Finals, forget Super Week, this is COTY week! I can't stress voting enough, the winner of this vote will forever live in HJC glory as the best concept of 2013, as voted and nominated by you and I, the readers. Those who do not vote, shame on you, this is the one vote you can use to redeem yourself, lets get the voting numbers into the 20's, 30's or even 40's!

On to the concepts!

But first...

Christmas Present Jersey (Mason M.)

Mason shares with us is jersey he got for Christmas, a custom Blue Jackets alternate. It's a cool jersey, and having it customized always makes you feel like you're on that team, not much else to say, but nice gift and thanks for sharing it, Mason! If you have a holiday jersey gift you want to share on HJC (even though it's January) send it in to HJC!

On to the concepts:

Team Finland Concepts (By: Mike S.)

Finland's Olympic jerseys are interesting, especially the Flag jersey, but this is the olympics for concepts, and MIke does a good job making a classic Finland concept, hitting all the notes. The double blue is a good colour scheme, and using the dual stripe pattern is simple enough that it doesn't overwhelm the double blue (cough, cough, Pittsburgh). The blue jersey is perfect, and the white jersey would be too without the yoke. I get the yoke is to make the jersey interesting, which it does, but adding a thin horizontal yoke stripe to the bottom of the light blue will help balance colours better, though it is starting to grow on me. (8.5/10)

Team Canada Concepts (By: Dallas K.)

This deffinitley seems more Nike like, Dallas is really going full freak out on this concept, but yet..it is subtle and classic in a way. The logo and side leafs are really out there, but still look good, when compared to the current jerseys, and is a cool idea to try, though they look better on the red jersey, less empty than on the white jersey. The striping is classic Canadian, but there are two things I would change. I would add a red yoke to the white jersey, Canada's current international jerseys look so good with them, and use the Maple Leafs from the Canadian Flag, rather than the Maple Leafs logo recoloured, but that way seem like too many of the same leaf style. (8/10)

Jokerit SM-Liga Concept (By: Tatu H.)

Jokerit is rumored to move to the KHL in the next few seasons, and a nice classic jersey to enter a new league isn't a bad idea, next to the missing ads, which I don't mind. The new logo is nice a stylized replacing the cheeky current logo, which looks pretty outdated. The striping is classic, and the squared yoke really goes well with the jersey, don't know why but it looks really good. Not sure why I think this, but it looks like a Panthers jersey too, maybe try that too, but still a good concept. (8.25/10)

Florida Panthers Concepts (By: Stephen T.)

Stephen has done the unthinkable, right after the Panthers bring back red, he goes and removes it entirely, baring the logo. I'm not sure how I feel about the colour change, it really does simplify the Panthers' colour shcme and makes it easier to balance on a jersey, which Stephen has done well. The jerseys are bland, no striping minus the arm bars, whihc look really bare on the white jersey, like the original edge Leafs jerseys. The shoulder patches are oversized and I would add arm striping and hems striping to liven things up. Neat idea though. (6.25/10)

Vancouver Canucks Concepts (By: TG)

Since the Canucks have had some really weird. and creatively fun jerseys, it's only fitting a concept artist would come up with a new idea. TG adds V striping to the hem striping and an L shape to the arms. The V logo looks great, and the hem striping compliments the jersey well. Nothing out of place and the shoulder patch updated stick in rink logo is a great shoulder patch and yeah, everything is a nice and simply odd. (7.5/10)

New Jersey Devils Concept (By: Ryan HJC)

Ryan is on a crusade to fix the Stadium Series jerseys, starting with New Jersey. The Devils just wore their throwbacks from the Mickey Mouse era, and yeah they look good, but so out of place compared to the modern jerseys we've seen so far. I like Ryan's altered logo, i can actually tell it's an NJ, and the added Stadium Series Elements like the yoke look solid. I'm not huge on the thickness of the striping, but it's a minor complaint, still keeps the Devils classic and would compliment the Stadium Series better than the throwback. (8.75/10)

New York Islanders Concept (By: Ryan HJC)

The Islanders hit the Stadium Series look on the head, and Ryan makes the fixes that are neccisary to making this jersey a full time alternate. Completing the arm striping and adding a thin hem stripe was a great move, and nothing else has changed, other than the de-chromed logo and unelongated numbers. not much else to say, great fix and would want this over the black Islanders alternate, anyday. (9.5/10) COTW Nom. from me!

New York Rangers Concept (By: Ryan HJC)

Oh Lady Liberty, how we have missed you! Ryan's and the post's last concept of the day keeps us in New York as he adds what many hoped was going to be on the Ranger's Stadium Series jerseys, Lady Liberty. The striping remains mostly the same, as it should, and the addition of the logo looks...great. It has the modern feel of the late 90's, which, I think, hasn't been matched since the Lady Liberty Jerseys were retired when the edge system came into play. (9.5/10)

That's today's post. Remember to comment and nominate as you feel fitting, and PLEASE vote for COTY and COTW. Get your Calgary Flames entries ready for Friday, and as always, I'm Jets96, Go Jets Go, have a great week and see you in a week!

Ryan's Islanders concept for the COTW.

I think what makes Ryan's Islanders concept in my opinion good and not great is the no space from the orange and white stripe on the hem. I think the whole jersey would be more unified if there was a space like on the arms.

@Dylan completely agreed

Love to see the Lady Liberty logo. Not using that was a huge missed opportunity. COTW nomination for Ryan's Rangers jersey.
