No Equipment Wednesday

Hey Hey Hey! I'm late!!! So I'll keep my dumb mouth shut and get to the concepts!

Actually... There's one thing I should mention. The Grand Rapids Griffins revealed the winner in their jersey contest that HJC hosted! And the winner is... Scott Garland!
This year's contest was full of great entries so I'm sure it was really hard for the Griffins to come up with a winner. Congrats Scott and can't wait to see the team wearing the jerseys in January! Don't forget to show us pictures of the jersey that you get!

While we're on the topic of winning, you should vote so other people can win things around here. For example, we have a COTW vote, a COTY vote, AND the Barrie Colts vote. So.... go do that.

COTY-November vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Nov 29-Dec 5 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Barrie Colts Comp vote (ends Friday @ 10:59pm Eastern)

And now concepts.

Studweiser Nickname Jersey Concept - Jack S.
It looks like Jack here took some inspiration from the Red Wings new Stadium Series jersey. The sash is a good look but outside of the sash, there's nothing going on here. First off, the name in the sash is too long. It starts way too low, at least in my eyes, and it goes into the armpit. The R would be cut off and shoved under a pit. So that should be smaller. Some sleeve stripes would be welcome. As for the ghost yoke, never been a huge fan of them, I'd either ditch the yoke outline, or make the whole yoke white. And slanty stripes on socks are just weird. The name is a little close to the yoke, so I'd move it down ever so slightly and i think the numbers could be moved down too. Kind of weird that the Reebok logo on the back is black while the rest of the jersey is red and white. The Reebok logo should be white, but that makes me think, I think the jersey would end up looking really cool as a red jersey with black and white on it. "Budweiser" is red black and white so it would only make sense...also, the inside of the collar shows white, but it should be red.

Rating: 5/10 - Cool nickname, jersey could use some work though.

Barrie Colts Concept - Lucas D.
Lucas' new look for the Colts includes a horseshoe as a C and the Calgary Flames old horse logo after his days as a fire breathing dragon horse. One little thing that's bugged me about that horse, is he's a skinhead. No sweet ass horse's mane. That and it looks a little creepy without the fire. So creepy logo, not a great start. The striping is nice, I like the color balance on both jerseys, but the back numbers are a little hard to read on the stripes. I'd give the logo a white outline to set it apart from the chest stripe. I think the horseshoe C would look cool on the shoulders as well. It'd be super neat to see the other equipment as well.

Rating: 6.9/10

Tampa Bay Lightning Concept - Lucas D.
Lucas brings back the Bolts' old logo but keeps the rest of the look pretty simple. The blue and white jerseys are pretty straightforward, but I think the black jersey is the best of the bunch. I like the cuffs beings a different color than the rest of the jersey. The blue jersey would look good with white cuffs and the white with blue. I think some shoulder logos would improve the look, otherwise this is a pretty boring look for a team based in Florida.

Rating: 7/10

Grand Rapids Griffins Concept - Ryan C.
Gotta say, I've never been a huge fan of this logo for the Griffs.... I mean, I like the style of it, but overall it's got a creepy face. But it's still better than the logo they're using now. The striping and yoke look really good, especially on the white jersey. I really don't like the front number, especially because it's so low on the jersey. No other equipment. Meh Meh Meh.

Rating: 7.5/10

Rebel Alliance Hoth Alternate Jersey Concept - Star Wars Series - Ryan G.
I mentioned it a few weeks ago but I'm not a big Star Wars follower. So most references will fly over my head like the Aluminum Falcon. From an aesthetic aspect, the jersey looks pretty good. I'm a sucker for double blue. I would think either the logo could use a thick blue outline to fit in with the jersey or the jersey could be a blue and white Detroit/Tampa type of jersey. Doesn't look bad though. The shoulder logos look a tad small. Not a fan of butt logos either, I feel like they would never really be that visible. The stripe on the helmet is an interesting move.

Anyone who's a Star Wars fan can post in the comments how well the jersey fits in with a Star Wars theme since I can't do that.

Rating: 7.5/10

Endor Strike Team Concept - Star Wars Series - Ryan G.
Alright, the same logo from the other Star Wars jersey is back but it's a different thing I think? I don't know Star Wars ok. If it's not one of the main characters and very obvious, or Jar Jar Binks I'm lost. I googled the strike team and it appears they were wearing camo colors, but no actual camo. And I also didn't see any orange. I think a mostly dark green jersey with the beige/green and brown striping might look a little better because I'm not a camo fan, but the orange really pops and I like that.

Rating: 7.5/10

Villanova Wildcats NCAA Concept - Josiah B.
I'm a sucker for double blue color schemes. I prefer the font of the blue jersey, with just the logo, but I know wordmarks on jerseys is a college thing so it barely gets a pass. I also think the white jersey would look better with just the two Vs on the shoulders. Everything else is pretty simple. Execution is good.

Rating: 8/10

Bakersfield Condors Concept - Ryan C.
Ryan wants to see the Condors abandon the Oilers style jerseys and adopt something of their own. Gotta say I'm a fan of the yoke going under the collar, but I think it looks just a tad too thin on the front of the jersey. The old Oilers font fits in well with the Condors logo and branding. And an orange jersey instead of blue would be great. Hopefully we would get a blue alternate at some point though. I think to complete the color swap between jerseys, the collar on the orange jersey should be white. No other equipment, although I would assume it's Oilers pants with socks matching the jersey striping.

Rating: 8/10

Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Concept - Also Adidas - Matt Mc.
Our good ol' boy Matt McElBoy. Haven't seem him come through the concept pages in a while. Nice to see him back, and he's still using the Adidas template he tried forcing some of us to use. It's actually a pretty good template, so if he's made it available or ever does, make sure you try it out. I did, see.
Anyway, these remind me of Arizona's new jerseys. but better. The dark upper arms work better with this color scheme as there's more contrast between the red and the black. The striping looks good with it too. I'm not a fan of, and I'll never be a fan of, the Adidas brand striping on the yoke. I think for some teams it may actually look good, for example, if the striping here was three stripes instead of two. The best way I've seen the Adidas stripes implemented is on the back of the collar. I'd also like to see the equipment, but I think the purpose of Matt's Adidas template is only to show an Adidas style jersey. So I'll reluctantly give him a pass.

That's the post! Sorry about the lateness! I thought it was Tuesday somehow. I hope all is forgiven and I'll come back next week with a good post for you.

Congrats to Scott G.

If your pronounce aluminium as al-u-minium instead of aluminin, it makes the Millennium Falcon sound way cooler.

I'll nominate Matt Mc. for COTW

Thanks everyone!! It's a huge honor, especially since it seems I'm the only Wings fan among a bunch of Hawks fans on here. I'll be driving out to the game to see them on the ice so I'll make sure to document it all and send pictures of the jersey!

Random fact: The 2014 Griffins contest is the reason why I heard about this site and started making concepts a year ago <3
