Friday: Join This List

Hello folks, how are you today?  Me I'm good, I always enjoy writing these Friday HJC posts.  If you think you might enjoy writing for HJC too, well you're in luck, as we're currently looking for a new Tuesday writer.  Click here, or on the white banner above this post for all the important details.

On Wednesday when Phil was discussing the available writer position, he mentioned it was "an exclusive club being opened up again".  That got me thinking, just how exclusive is this club, how many people have written for HJC before?  The answer is 21.  21 people have had at least one HJC post attributed to them.  Below I've arranged those people from most to least amount of posts written, with links to their first and last posts (because apparently I didn't have anything better to do).

Ryan Haslett, 895 Posts (Nov 2009 - Present)
As the founder of this site and the only regular writer for the first few years, Ryan built up a lead of over 600 posts before other people started writing the weekday posts.

First and Only Post

Now you have a chance to join this (somewhat) exclusive list.  And you can rocket up the list pretty quickly as well, after only a year you'd pass more than half the people.  If you're interested, get your application in before noon next Friday.

By the way, how many of these names do you recognize?  I've been around for all of them except Glen.

*(I'm pretty sure all this information is accurate, but if I've missed anyone or made another mistake let me know in the comments and I'll fix it).

--------------------------------------------------

Three votes ended at noon today and only one vote replaced them, so the voting reminders are a bit less cluttered now.  But we still have one ongoing competition, and of course the writer applications as well.  Everything ends next Friday at noon.

COTW Aug 5-11 vote (ends Friday, Aug 19 @ noon Eastern)
International Outdoor Classic entries (due Friday, Aug 19 @ noon Eastern)
HJC Writer Applications (due Friday, Aug 19th @ noon Eastern)

--------------------------------------------------

Here's the lone International Outdoor Classic competition entry to come in since yesterday's post...

by Burkus Circus:

--------------------------------------------------

Edmonton Oilers, by John V:
John starts us off with a Heritage Classic concept for the Oilers.  I like the general idea of bringing back their original WHA white jersey, I think it's what many of us expected them to unveil last week.  Some of the changes made aren't my favourite though, I don't think vintage white looks good when the orange is so prominent, and I'm also not a fan of this version of the Oilers logo.  The execution is fairly good, but the vertical stitching should stop at the hem stripes, and the collar laces have disappeared into the jersey (making them a slightly darker shade of vintage white would solve that issue).
Rating: 6/10

New York Rangers, by Lucas D:
Lucas continues his Identity Swap series by making the Rangers look like the freshly rebranded Panthers.  It's a fun idea for a series and I think this swap worked out pretty good, the Panthers new jerseys look good in blue and red.  However the logo isn't as impressive as some of the other logos in this series, it feels more template-y in comparison to me.  Also the flag patches should be angled perpendicular to the sleeves.
Rating: 7/10

Cedar Rapids Roughriders, by Chris W:
I always enjoy reviewing concepts from Chris because of his amazing attention to detail, and this concept is no different.  Some of those subtle details include stitching on the numbers of the third jersey (like Buffalo's 40th anniversary jersey), as well as a team specific collar insert logo.  Zooming back out, the striping pattern on the primary jersey isn't my favourite.  It's not awful, but the colours do blend together a bit.  I do love that number font though, and I think the third jersey is absolutely perfect (the horse shoe pattern is great).
Rating: 8/10

Team USA, by Avi S:
Last but not least, Avi gives Team USA new World Cup jerseys with flag inspired sleeve stripes.  Those sleeve stripes are brilliant, they look good, they're unique, they're very patriotic, what more could you ask for?  I also like the subtle use of gold (although as a Canadian I think silver is more fitting for their performance), and the number font is nice as well.  Overall these would fit in great with the modern style of the World Cup jersey, I have no complaints at all.
Rating: 9/10 and my COTW nomination!

--------------------------------------------------

I'll see you again next week!

Or will I...

Seriously impressive research, Steven. I had no idea that 8/21 will be my 100th post. Seems poetic.

@Burkus: No, that's not really the situation we're looking for.

Ok

GO JACKETS!!! GO MONSTERS!!! GO BUCKS!!! GO USA!!!

The only issue I have with the USA concept is the striping on the sleeves. Although I love the idea of using the American flag, I actually prefer the striping that the actual white jersey has.

Impressive research! Definitely a nostalgia trip for me. I didn't realize I had more posts than most of the other awesome writers HJC has had over the years. It was always fun bringing my brand of writing to the community, which is why I'm glad to be back as the Social Media Admin.

Although...4th is a disappointing number to leave on, maybe I'll have to pad that stat some more one day ;)
