Sunday: The Elephant in the Room

Hi everybody. It's no surprise by now that we're running low on concepts here. Now I understand that it's that time of the year where college students have finals to worry about and everybody is trying to get everything ready for the winter season (first snowfall in Pittsburgh today), but if you guys want us to keep going instead of having to take the week off again, then we need people to send things in. Please don't be afraid to do so. We're here to help you get better, not bring you down about your concepts.

Anyways, nothing really going on in the world of hockey jersey or logo wise, but baseball has been a different story. Getting off on a side rant, Teams named the Suns, Mets, and Zephyrs have changed to the Jumbo Shrimp, Rumble Ponies, and Baby Cakes. While all these names have ties to the local area, it makes me think of how different the hockey world is compared to baseball and thankful that all most names in hockey are more tame and mature than what's been going on in the minor leagues lately.

Getting back to hockey, We have the usual Concept of the Week voting going on as well as the Washington Capitals contest and the Season so please take the two minutes it takes to log into your google account and vote. Your fellow designers thank you.

COTW Nov 11-17 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
Washington Capitals Top 5 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
The Season Week 2 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)

Ben Shaffer- Centennial Classic
Positives- First thing that draws me to the Detroit jersey is the logo. The angled "Detroit" with the Redwing logo looks beautiful with the thick-thin striping combination. While it does look similar to the previous Winter Classic uniform that the Redwings wore, it's nice to see traditional white instead of the "vintage white." As for the Maple Leafs jersey, the striping design gives a nice tribute to the early years of the Maple Leafs blue jersey but made as a white jerseys instead. It really has a simple but effective look to it. Also, the combo maple leaf with the arena's T looks really good.
Negatives: Both logos look really big on the fronts of the jerseys and the Redwing logo would look better a bit smaller with the angled "Detroit" text. I don't really have anything wrong with the Maple Leafs jersey, but it would have been cool to see both pants get the classic leather look.
Overall: 8.75/10

 Tyler Meli-Skewis- Minnesota Wild
Positives: Love the idea of combining the classic uniform design and colors of the North Stars to the Wild logo. That logo is just beautiful with that color combination and I kudos to you for being able to do that. As for the design of the jersey, it's nice to see that you took the Stanley Cup jersey design and gave it a modern twist with the thinner black and yellow stripes and making the ends different colors.
Negatives: Green pants? change them back to black or add the black and yellow striping and those pants would be beautiful.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE

Well guys that's all the time I have for you this week. Please start sending in more concepts so we can have a much longer post next week, I'm begging you. Have a good rest of the week and Happy early birthday to HJC and that Christmas is a little over a month away.

I would like to nominate the capitals question mark concept from the Season for COTW. It's truly a great brand, so simple yet it symbolizes Washington so well: the lack of Stanley cups, Alex ovechkins hairline, and especially the minds of the citizens of DC after the recent election. I especially love the shade of red used in the logo. Great stuff all around.
