Friday: A Fond Flashback

Hey y'all, and welcome to Another Friday post here at HJC.  As y'all already know, our fearless leader Ryan has been on vacation at Disney World, so he gave us free reign over the site.  Somehow we haven't managed to burn down the entire internet, so here we are with another entry in our "Throwback Week".  For my entry, I decided to pay tribute to a very dear late friend of mine, the Atlanta Thrashers.  It has been a long seven years without my beloved Thrashers, and not a single day goes by that I do not wonder what could have been.  While I cannot say what would have come from the Thrashers' always thrilling design department, I'd like to think that these concepts give me a look at some of the madness that could have been.

Now on to today's Thrashers throwback concepts!

Taylor Roy.- Atlanta Thrashers

Our first entry of the day comes to us from Taylor Roy.  I love the use of powder blue as a base on this one, the Thrashers really rocked it.  I don't think I would have ever tried a chest stripe for the Thrashers, but I must say it works really well with that crest, and the striping pattern is phenomenal.  The use of navy for the yoke, cuff, and hem works really well, and the thin white striping does a good job of acting as a barrier between the two blues.  I'm not really sold on the number font, it's somehow blocky and modern at the same time, and I would have liked to have seen the "Thunderbird" logo as a shoulder patch, if only because it matches the striping so well.  Other than that, gear looks great and execution is up to Taylor's usual high standards.  Final verdict: a good look for Blueland, and one I wouldn't have minded seeing on the ice.  9/10

Kevin D.- Atlanta Thrashers

Next up is a Thrashers design from Kevin D.  I really like the curved yoke design, especially since the dark arms on the white jersey give it a different look on each jersey.  The white yoke on the dark jersey looks really good, and keeps the jersey from looking too plain.  I'm not a huge fan of the logo choices here, the front reminds me too much of that awful motocross alternate that they had, and the shoulder patch is in my opinion their weakest logo.  The alternate is really solid, I love the nod to the Atlanta Flames, and the addition of the white yoke is a good call.  I'm not sure they could get the clearance to wear the A shoulder patch, though, and once again I'm not a fan of the main crest.  Finally, I would have liked to have seen the accompanying gear, just to get a better idea of the overall look of the set.  Final verdict: a good looking jersey set, but logo choices hold this one back.  7/10

Collin M.- Atlanta Thrashers

Our next concept comes to us from Collin M., and appears to be an entry in a Brights Series that he was working on.  The elimination of blue from the Thrashers' color scheme is an interesting call, but I think it actually works really well, as their color scheme was always a little busy, and it gives a nod to the Flames.  The striping pattern seems to be inspired by the Thrashers' original uniforms, and I must say, it looks fantastic.  The hem stripe looks great, it almost looks like a sunset motif on the white jersey.  Honestly, the only detraction I can make on this concept is the lack of gear.  Final verdict: a bold design choice for the Thrashers that really pays off.  9.5/10

Ryan H.- Atlanta Thrashers

Our final concept of the day comes to us from our very own bossman, Ryan.  Once again, I'm a big fan of the Thrashers in powder blue, and this is no exception.  I like the striping pattern, especially doubled up on the arm around the logo.  I'm not a fan, however, of the logo overlapping the striping, that's an easy fix.  If you hadn't presented this as a baseball inspired concept, I would have knocked the main crest choice, but I think it works alright with that explanation.  I'm not sold on the sock design, I would probably have just tried to match the arm striping.  I'm glad you included the 3D template with this one, I wasn't really sure about the look on the regular template, but seeing it with the gear makes me think it could work.  Final verdict: an interesting look for the Thrashers, and definitely one I could see the Thrashers wearing for a special event.  8/10
