Week of July 4-10, 2011

Happy 4th of July to all our American readers! Hopefully your holiday is treating you well and this HJC post is just the cherry on top!

Unfortunately for Wild fans, you received Dany Heatley in a trade last night. HJC readers saw this coming as back in May, when the Sharks were being eliminated by the Canucks, the Weekly Poll asked who on the Sharks you'd get rid of first. 49% of voters responded by saying that they should get rid of Heatley. Well, the Sharks must have been reading HJC because they did just that...sorry Minnesota.

Last week's Weekly Poll asked first, if you play organized hockey. 60% or voters (myself included) do play. The next question was regarding what position you do/would play. Most popular position was Winger (35%) followed by Defence (27%), next was Goaltenders (22%) which was surprising to me as I thought it would be lower. Finally 14% were Centres, which in my opinion is the hardest position to play in hockey.

This week's Weekly Poll is asking what company's equipment you like to wear most. Obviously there are others but, I've listed the top 6 brands in the NHL. Voting is on the right side of the page and runs until Sunday @ 11:59pm EST.

Concept of the Week voting is now live. Nominees can be found on the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK page. Voting is on the left side of the page and runs until Thursday @ 11:59pm EST. When this vote is complete, we will start the COTY-June vote. Once that vote is complete the next step is the 2nd Quarter Vote in the COTY voting!

Want to skip all that an get your concept straight into the 2nd Quarter Vote? Then enter the Concept of the Week Challenge! Get all of the details by clicking on the COTW CHALLENGE banner on the right side of the page!

The Las Vegas Vipers concepts are in and it's time to vote! Click on the banner on the left side of the page or go to the LAS VEGAS VIPERS page. You can place your vote there and see all of the entries! Voting runs until Sunday @ 11:59pm EST.

As I have been suggesting for the last few weeks, next season will see the "Reebox" logo on the back of the jerseys replaced with the Reebok wordmark. When you go to Shop.NHL.com, and purchase the new Kings, Panthers, or Preds jerseys, the preview image shows the Reebok wordmark on the back.

Winnipeg Jets conepts (by Brandon S.)Brandon adds silver to the colour scheme, which a lot of people think will happen. He's also used the old Thrashers 3rd jersey to create a cool Jets 3rd jersey.

Winnipeg Jets concept (by Elias)Elias gives us the former blue Jets jersey but with shoulder yokes. He's used to cool Jets logo by Johnny at PuckDrawn.com. Unfortunately he forgot to continue the arm and hem stripes to the other side of his jersey.

Winnipeg Jets concepts (by Kyle S.)Kyle has created his own pretty good Jets logo here. Great stuff! He's also added silver and re-coloured the vintage WHA logo, nice!

Colorado Avalanche concept (by Brad)Our last COTW winner was Brad with an Avalanche set. This grey jersey was included as the 3rd jersey. He also sent along this full body model which I thought I'd share with everyone. This looks even better on the player model.

Anaheim Ducks concept (by Mark)Also last week, Mark sent in a black Ducks concept. Now, here is the matching white version.

Colorado Avalanche logo idea (by Cody)Cody sent along a Knoxville Avalanche baseball logo and thought it would be neat if the Avs used it because it's Nordiques colours...

Los Angeles Kings concept (by Brandon C.)This is Brandon's 1st contribution to HJC. I think that logo is perfect for a stripe across the chest like he's done here. I don't think that the yokes are needed though.

Los Angeles Kings concept (by Jack)The NHL needs to bring back the vintage jersey program. Wouldn't we all love to see the Kings wear this for a couple of games?

Toronto Maple Leafs concepts (by Kris)Could the blue jersey here be the next Leafs' 3rd jersey? Of course, Kris has made his own additions with the leaf shoulder patch.

San Jose Sharks concept (by Mike A.)If the Sharks took their early 2000's jersey and transferred it to the Edge system it may have come out looking like this. This is one of the few jerseys that looks good on this Reebok cut. ATL & PHI both looked terrible.

Edmonton Oilers concept (by Bryan)Now that the Oilers are full time retro it may be time to take it even a step further. A version of this jersey was worn by the Alberta Oilers in the WHA. If colour makes a comeback in the NHL, might this jersey?

Nashville Predators concepts (by Connor)This is a GREAT set by Connor! The simplicity of the home and away let the logos do the talking. Then, the yellow 3rd fits the Predators theme marvelously! This set gets a COTW nomination from me!

Kyle's Jets concept for COTW! I love that logo! Also, I would nominate Brandon's Jets concept, but you can only nominate one per day. Sorry Brandon!

Just wanna say on the Vipers jerseys, I thought it was funny (not in a devious way) how Magnus and Brady have the same exact jersey.
