Week of August 8-14, 2011
Here we go with another week on HJC. The new week brings the 2nd round of the HJC Open. You can see who advanced on the HJC OPEN page. Lower seeds (9,11,17,19), your concepts are due tomorrow by 7:00pm EST.
Last week's COTW nominees are up! You can see them on the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK page. Voting is on the left side of the page and runs until Thursday @ 11:59pm EST. Again, COTW nominations were quite few and essentially it came down to me deciding who the nominees were. Only one concept got proper "seconding".
COTY-July voting is still happening on the left side of the page. It's the grey poll and it runs until Friday @ 11:59pm EST.
The Weekly Poll asked when you officially admit to yourself that it is now off-season. "August, when all we have is baseball" beat out "When the Stanley Cup is presented" by one vote.
Each had roughly 35% of the votes so, I consider this one a tie. After July 1 had 16% and when your team is eliminated had 11%.
During the summer months it can get a little difficult to come up with some Weekly Poll questions. Thus, this week's poll asks, other than beer, what is your favourite snack during a hockey game? Poll is on the right side of the page and runs until Sunday @ 11:59pm EST.
You'll notice the new banner on the header of the page. Yes, it looks like crap but, lets move on. This week is going to be IIHF Concepts Week!
Seeing as the typical competition is currently only for 8 people, the rest need something. However, this isn't your usual HJC contest. If you want to skip the usual waiting period, then send in concepts for YOUR country. Next Monday, I will choose the best concept and it will go into the COTW voting! For honourable mention, I will also name the best of each country.

Montreal Canadiens concept (by WinnipegJets96)
This concept isn't one of my favourites. I like the use of a vintage logo and I'd want to see it on an alternate jersey. However, I don't think the Montreal faithful would put up with a blue jersey. I also don't think that the heritage or the fans would allow the team to use numbers on the front and use a font like Copperplate.
Montreal Canadiens concepts (by Arthur)
Woah...ok, these certainly are different. Habs fans, let Arthur know what you think of his concepts. I think they should match and be classic blah, blah, blah! Have to point out that Arthur forgot to colour in the collar on the red jersey. These are things to watch out for.
Winnipeg Jets concept (by Mason)
When I look at this as an alternate option I see a re-coloured old Preds jersey. I would have coloured the cuff in with the lighter blue thus, having a thick white arm stripe. I would have also gone with no vertical piping.

I'm a big fan of the home and alternate jerseys here. Not so much with the road sweater. I don't really like the big sections of the light blue. Other than that, this gets a COTW nomination from me.
Tomorrow's concepts will be mostly Quick Hits as I will be revealing a large concept that I have been working on for a couple of weeks.

Why wasn't my Blackhawks set included in the COTW voting?
Where is that info on thesportinstore.com you were talking about?

@Arthur: It wasn't seconded by a Google account holder. In fact, only one concept was so technically only one concept should be in the voting. But the rules also state that if necessary, I get to choose what concepts go into voting.
@LetsGoLeafs: I just haven't gotten to it yet. Do you work for them?
So can we send in concepts for any country or just the usual 16 teams.
The idea was the country that you are from but, there really aren't any rules. I'm just picking my favourite international concept at the end of the week.

No, I don't. I was just confused over the fact that you said you would mention it "tomorrow" two or three days ago. I'm unnecessarily nitpicky over things like that.

I like Sam's Jets concept, but I don't think that's what we'll be seeing hit the ice. True North has come out and said that there won't be any red in the jerseys aside from the leaves in the logos. That knocks out a lot of our concepts over the past few weeks actually, mine included.
