Monday: Concepts on my Mind

Hey guys, now you know what I look like, hey, sup? Yeah it's cool, I feel sort of more open and less "hiding behind a keyboard", just thought I'd say my real name is Sean and my pen name, Jets96, is the year of my birth, 1996, and my favourite team, the Jets.

Hockey is in full swing, the Jets are doing rather well, better than I expected, and hopefully your team is doing well too, unless you're a Caps fan, in which case, good luck and hopefully they turn around... and not beat the Jets!

If you're in the GTA and like minor league pro hockey, Brampton is getting a CHL team (Central, not Canadian). The team is currently having a name the team contest which you can enter here. The team, I think should NOT be called the Battalion, I like Knights, like Bramptonintes, but that's just me.

On to the Concepts you all came for...

Pittsburgh Penguins Concept (By: Stephen T.)

I am totally for the Pens going back to the late 90's alternate for a throwback, no more blue. This is okay, but it could use some work. The all gray striping is okay and the yellow numbers look okay, that could work. The major problem I have in the logo, this needs the Robo-Pen, its of the era, and I get it if you're trying to branch out, but the two go hand and hand. The logo is a little too big and the vector should be the script (but the latter is really minor). There is stuff too like and it has potential, but it needs work (6/10)

Team Canada Concept (By: Ted N.)

I am all for a black Canadian alternate, and there are somethings I like. The circle logo is cool, and I like the maple leaf on the shoulder. The striping is pretty cool, a little low, but its okay. The only gripe I really have is the red pants, it looks a little odd, black would look a lot better. Also the reds should match between the shoulder patch and the rest of the jersey. The name bar is alittle off but it isn't too big, still has potential. (6.5/10

Team Comcast (Youth Squad) (By: Bailey S.)

 

I like seeing high school and youth league concepts, they are off the beaten path and the creative possibilities are almost endless. The Atlanta-esque arm yokes are really cool, I am definitely in the minority on that but, especially in a minor league, that's okay by me. The only execution gripes are the different shades of black on the white jersey and the bottom of the black jersey should be all back and the bottom of the white jersey should be all white. Other than that these look good for a youth team, my youth team didn't look this good at all, and even taking that away they still look good. (7/10)

 

Binghampton Senators Concept (By: Me (Jets96)

 

 

I don't usually like to send in my contest entries to HJC, unless I felt A) they can stand alone or B) I messed up on the contest entry and wanted to make things better. In this case, I left the NHL tags on my concept and that hurt it a lot, lesson of the day, check your entries TWICE before sending it in, with any concept. I basically wanted to make it look like a real roman officer's uniform, and I tried that with sub laminated striping. The hem is supposed to look like a skirt and the yoke is supposed to look like a shoulder guard from Ancient Rome. I don't know if it does this all too well, you guys can tell me in the comments.

 

Minnesota North Stars Concepts (By: Bastian S.)

 

 

While I love the Minnesota Wild's new look, well, look as in like their current look, the North Stars look great, and after seeing Mike Modano wearing the North Stars jersey in 2009, I wanna see them comeback in a throwback. As for this concept, it looks pretty good, the lack of black in my only problem, but that's okay. The really cool thing about this concept is the striping, it's unique, and character filled, it's vintage but not in your face. The yoke understripe is decent, but I think it would look better with an actual yoke. (7.5/10)

 

S.C. Bern Concepts (By: Stephen T.)

 

 I once again, love getting to review European concepts, and this one is one of the better ones I have seen in a while. This template really should be used more, it's the original Edge All Star jersey and most people over look it, but, this concept take full advantage of the template. I think the home looks better than the away, but both look great, the colours really flow and the whole look is very Euro, which is important. The pants should both be the blank or with the red stripe, but that's okay. (8/10)

 

Anaheim Ducks Concepts (By: Jack H.)

 

This is Jack's first concept to HJC, and what a way to start off. The return of eggplant to the Ducks is a great idea, and the striping is pretty cool, especially on the home. If only the duck foot was silver, it would have a clean bill of health, other than that, it looks good. As for preferences, I think the duck mask should be on the front and the duck foot on the shoulders, but that's fine, just me. Looking forward to seeing more Jack! (8/10)

Dallas Stars Concepts (By: Fergus)

With Dallas getting a new look in the spring, we can expect something green, and Fergus has given us a possible idea. This set looks very North Stars, which is good, as the look is classic. The yokes are cool, especially since they are square..sort of. The striping is a little boring but the colours are good enough to hold it up. No real gripes, just a good look. (8.5/10)

Phoenix Coyotes Concept (By: Kyle C.)

WHITEOUT BELONGS IN WINNIPEG! Now that I have that off my chest, everything else looks awesome. While this is meant to be a fan jersey, these would look decent on the ice. The logo looks great with a simple outline and everything holds up, which I think has to do with the colours. The two colours contrast so well it works to its advantage. One thing I'd try to make it more deserty is making it a sandstorm, like using beige instead of the white, but, this still look good. (8.5/10)

Colorado Rockies Concepts (By: Bastian S.)

The Rockies need to come back, there have been a lot of good Rockies concepts over the past year, that have sold me on this look. I like the Avs look but, this is incredible. Bastian has given us a good set for their comeback. The home looks great, the white over sized cuffs look great and the C shoulder patch is great and I like everything about it. The same thing can be said for the white jersey, and I think this needs to see ice time, along with Steven G.'s alternate, the Rockies are ready to go! (9/10) COTW Nom. from me!

Cincinnati Stingers Concepts (By: Jordan R.)

The Stingers were one of the team who lost the bid to make it to the NHL in 1979 (looking back on it, all the surviving WHA teams should have been let in). Jordan has given us an idea of what they would be wearing today. I love almost everything on this concept, right down to the presentation. All 3 jerseys look like a set, and when they are lined up on this concept, I want to see them on ice, even in the AHL. My only gripe is the socks, they are all the same, they should all corespond with the jersey, but they still look okay. (9/10).
