Monday: Building Concepts in the Sky
Hooray, Jets beat the Stars, and it's another Monday here on HJC!
Here are your voting reminders for the week, and just to spice things up, here's a song from NHL 2003 to remind you to vote (one of my favourite hockey songs ever)
How can you not get pumped up by this song, it should pump you up to vote!
The COTY 2013 logo contest is under way, and lets see some of the beautiful entries that have come in so far mes amies.
None have come in yet...so..yeah
I love the new 3rd jersey for the Flames, I love everything about it, not much else I can say, one of my favourites in the NHL right now for sure, next to the Islanders 3rd (stop judging me)
On to the concepts:
North Carolina State Wolfpack concept (By: Mike S.)
I love U.S. college designs, sometimes very classic but sometimes too simplistic. I love the striping design, it reminds me of the Blackhawks jerseys, but the yoke striping is amazing, it really sets it apart from others, I've actually never seen this yoke stripe style. I also like the matching arm cuffs and maybe would make It similar to the Habs away jersey and take away the arm striping perhaps, just an idea though. (8.5/10)
Winnipeg Jets concepts (By: Brady S.)
I love reviewing Jets concepts, and I'm so happy I get to see off Brady's Swift re-design. First off, congrats, it was an interesting series and a well executed one as well. I love the concept, and the minor changes one the jersey, for the most part, are good. I like the new yoke style, both styles are good looking, and the blue jersey is almost untouched. The white jersey has a different striping pattern, which, looks good, but makes me think the main colour is light blue, not navy. (8.5/10)
Pittsburgh Penguins Concepts (By: S2tudio)
I always say the Pens jerseys now look okay, but the fact that they copy Ottawa and the old Tampa Bay jerseys, sort of takes away from the set. I love this set, even the light blue jersey! The home and road are nice and simple, especially the white jersey, I love that. The vintage jersey is pretty good, even the white socks looks good. The monochromatic jersey doesn't cram too much in but doesn't over simplify things. (9/10)
Pittsburgh Penguins Concepts (By: David P.)
David attempts to modernize the Pens original gold and black look, and white it does have some execution issues, I to see the effort. The curved striping is a nice treat, reminding me of the Atlanta away jersey from the original edge cookie cutter sets, but a lot more refined and classic. The logo is far too small and the shoulder patches should be properly done (ie: halved at yoke border). I would also really recommend T.V. numbers. (6/10)
Anaheim Ducks Concept (By: Wings98)
Wow this is bright! This is part of Wings98s NHL black series, which I'm guessing is to give each team a very neon and dark look. The execution errors in all of Wings98's previous concepts apply here, so I won't beat a dead horse, but I'll just talk about how to make thinks better. I'd get rid of the green yoke and add some green and purple to the hem stripe, automatically bring this concept up to a 6. The gear looks okay, though a green stripe on the sock striping instead of a big green blob would look better. (5.5/10)
Anaheim Ducks Concepts (By: Jeff C.)
The one major problem I have with this concept is the size of all the striping. I like the Jeff is experimenting with new template, but the striping is way to small, especially the hem, that should be much thicker. Other than that, I kinda like the idea, but I think the black jersey could use a lot more white, at least somewhere on the jersey. (6/10)
Anaheim Ducks Concepts (By: David P.)
Like the previous concept, the logo is way to small, and TV numbers really help make the concept look professional. This idea is nothing new, but is still a good idea. I would also add a recoloured duck foot as a shoulder patch to make the jersey more interesting, and maybe make the arm stripes similar to the hem stripes. (5.5/10)
Los Angeles Kings Concept (By: Steven G.)
I actually really like this idea, despite it being really similar to the Canadiens pre-edge jerseys. The lack of white isn't too bad of an idea, but still a little white wouldn't hurt. The script really amplifies the Kings look, and surrounded by purple, why isn't Ziggy Palffy wearing this? Not much eles I can say, I really like this. (9/10)
New York Islanders Concept (By: Bryan W.)
Just because the Nets decided to change to black and white, now every team in Brooklyn is going to be the same. Despite that thought, I like it, it is a mix between the Brooklyn Americans jerseys and the four stripe Islanders patches. The Islanders shoulder patch should be a little smaller though, it is a little too big for the shoulder and maybe adding some gray into the striping would be cool. (9/10)
Team Greece Concepts (By: Alan H.)
I personally love any international team striping that uses the country's flag. The striping looks good, and I love the new number set, very modern and typical of Alan, the master of modern. The white helmet actually matches the flag quite well, I kind of would like to see the cross on the yoke or on the arms somewhere to completely match the flag. (8.5/10)
Remember to don't Deny votes to the concepts up for bid and submit your logo designs to the HJC contest by Friday! Ryan has posted his more in-depth review of the Flames awesome new alternate, go to the HJC Design link on the side panel for a fun little read. Have a great week, Go Jets Go, and wish me luck as I take on the teams at my high school's intermural floor hockey tournament (we're wearing Leafs jerseys and calling ourselves the Bruisers because that being my nickname (a little play on my last name Bruce). Will post results and possible team photo on Monday!

It is indeed a great song!
My Kings concept might be kind of similar to the Canadiens current home jersey, but I don't agree that it's really similar to my Canadiens De-Edge concept. Unless you count any jersey that has a chest-stripe as being really similar, which I don't think is right.
S2dio's Pittsburgh concept for COTW
Nice to add that Default song. The lead singer, Dallas Smith, is my best friends cousin. He's now a popular Canadian Country singer.
I remember playing NHL 2003 on PC. Was that an experience! And I agree, GO JETS GO!
Thanks for the great feedback on my concept.
Seconding the Pittsburgh COTW.
@ Steven, I meant to say preedge
@winnipegjets96: Ok that makes more sense now. The concept takes inspiration from the Canadiens red jersey and also the Blackhawks Winter Classic jersey (thicker chest stripe and no hem stripe), and since neither of those teams have similar jerseys in my series, I thought I'd use that style for this Kings third jersey concept.
Jets, Yes, Bringin' back some NHL memories with that song.
