Merry Christmas... Eve ! ! ! !
Ho Ho Ho Jersey People! I hope you're all enjoying your holiday week so far. I'm sure most of you have been pretty busy preparing for the hustle and bustle of the holidays, but I'm happy you can take some time out of your day to relax and look at some new jersey concepts on the blog!
First things first, let's not forget to vote. As they say... 'Tis the season! I'm going to send in my votes as I get done typing today's post, so you should do it when you're done reading today's post, better yet... do it now... because hey... 'Tis the season!
Plus, send in your Delaware Pioneers logos for this week's competition!
And now our very merry concepts!
Charlotte Checkers Concept - Ryan D.
I'll start off with what I like here, and that's the color scheme. It wouldn't fit into their current identity but it's a great callback to their ECHL days. In that case, I'd rather see one of their older logos in use as opposed to their wordmark. I also think the number on the front of the jersey is too big, but I don't like front numbers anyway, personally. I feel like if you ditch the dark blue side panels and add a hem stripe, this becomes a very decent jersey, but the wordmark, front number, and colored side panels hurt this concept. Some execution errors, there's a very pixelated "TM" next to the wordmark, on a jersey I'm sure that's not needed, plus the NHL branding on the collar needs to go. Use the current Reebok logo on the back of the jersey, and the inside of the jersey on the collar is white.
Rating: 5/10
Buffalo Sabres De-Edge Concept - Justin S.
This concept brings one of Dylan Wonka's concepts from a few weeks back to mind. Which, isn't a bad thing, I rather like that concept. As an alternate. I don't like that those hem stripes bleed off of the jersey. I don't care for the white yoke on the dark jersey as well. I also want to see an extra blue outline between the white number and yellow outline to add contrast. The wordmark on the white jersey should be blue or have a blue outline to add contrast. I know it's odd to be OK with this workmark, but not the last concept's, but this is more stylized and I like it better than say, just standard block letters.
Rating: 6/10
Boston Bruins Concept - Phil B.
Phil keeps basically everything the same for the Bruins except for the colors. The striping is more simplified than their current set, which isn't hard to do, they're pretty simple as it is. I feel like between the two jerseys here, the white jersey is best. I don't care for the dark jersey as much. There's not a lot of contrast in the striping. I also get the feeling that the outline on the numbers aren't thick enough. The one thing I'm not sure about though, is a full time brown helmet. Maybe it wouldn't look that bad though. I don't know.
Rating: 6/10
Edmonton Oilers Away Jersey Concept - Ryan D.
Ryan gives the Oilers a new away jersey that resembles the home jersey with the stripine, with the exception of an extra stripe on the arms. He also moves the primary logo to the shoulders in favor of a new wordmark and front number. I like the idea of the home and away having matching striping but I dislike the removal of the logo for a wordmark. The wordmark itself doesn't look bad, but I don't want to see it on a jersey. The font for the name and captain's C is bad. I would never want to see it on a professional jersey. The numbers on the front and back are a tad big. The Reebok tag on the back of the jersey is incorrect as well. The inside of the jersey, on the hem and collar, should be blue, not white.
Rating: 6/10
Dallas Stars Concept - Stephen T.
Stephen brings back the old Stars despite the team ditching that identity in favor of a new, and better, one. He basically just adds the old Pre-Edge jersey stitching to the Edge jersey. A lot of people have wanted to see this happen but something seems uneven about it. I also don't like the lack of green on the light jersey. The one thing I never liked about this jersey set was that a bottom point of the star touches the numbers on the back. Not a bad looking set, but it just looks odd and uneven on this template, plus, it's hard for me to like the old logo on a Dallas jersey now that they've finally upgraded.
Rating: 6/10
Chicago Blackhawks Concept - Phil B.
Phil also rebrands the Blackhawks. It's hard for most people to like Blackhawks concepts just because it's hard to look at a concept and not compare it to what the team actually wears, and the Hawks' jerseys are in fact, untouchable. I like the red jersey striping is pretty similar to their current reds. I'm indifferent with the chest stripe, I'd prefer it's not there but it's not the worst, but if it's going to be there the hem should be blank, same with the white jersey. I don't care for the yoke on either jersey and the numbers on both jerseys run into some legibility issues. The Reebok on the white jersey should be white.
Rating: 6.5/10
Edmonton Oilers De-Edge Concept - Justin S.
Justin wants to add more orange to the Oilers set, while darkening the blue. It seems like a mix of eras for the Oilers. Use the shoulder patch logo on the chest and leave the shoulders blank. There's no need to have the same logo on the jersey three times. I really like the striping on the white jersey. The dark jersey is good too, but I'm not huge on the orange cuffs and hem. Other than the colors though, this isn't too much different than what they wear now.
Rating: 6.5/10
Team Austria Concept - Mike S.
Mike gives the Austrians a new set of jerseys. I like their bird logo quite a bit. I appreciate that Mike tried to give both jerseys the same striping. It looks very good on the white jersey, but not so much on the red jersey. I feel like to make this look as good as you can, you swap the red and white in the striping on the dark jersey. Or find a new striping pattern that looks good on both jerseys.
Rating: 7/10
Edmonton Oilers Alternate Jersey Concept - Caden P.
Caden has an idea for an Edmonton alternate, which, I like the idea, and I like where this is headed actually. The jersey itself needs some white. It would not only help brighten it up a little bit, but also liven it up a bit. The logo choice is intriguing, and the font is different, but I'm ok with it. The template isn't anything new but I think it looks good in these colors.
Rating: 7/10
Ottawa Senators Concept - Matt M.
Matt Brings his Iceborn template to three more teams today, and we'll end today's post with a natural Hat Trick of McElroy concepts. I like the new striping here, pretty much anything beats their current set but these are nice. I've always like the two (or three technically) stripe pattern but it's improved here with the addition of the laurels. I'm a big fan of the logo choice too. This logo wouldn't look bad on the shoulders as well.
Rating: 8/10
New York Islanders Concept - Matt M.
Matt also redesigns the Isles' jerseys. not too much I like the "new" striping, it is slightly different. I'd like to see the hem stripes moved down a little bit. The pants' stripe is intriguing too. Never seen anything quite like that, but I like it.
Rating: 8/10
New York Rangers Concept - Matt M.
Last but not least, the New York Rangers. First thing I'm noticing is a new yoke style for the Iceborn Template. I like how it looks on the white jersey. I really like everything how it is, on the jerseys though... The sock striping doesn't match the jerseys. I'd like to see the jerseys striping match the socks. The away jersey could go either way, match everything to the socks or jersey. The numbers on the white jersey have too much white in them too. You fix these, and it's a 9 for me. maybe even a 10 if I actually see what all those fixes look like.
