Tuesday: PrimeTime HJC!

Hey Everyone! Slow jersey news week. Hopefully the Blackhawks and Penguins unveil their jersey soon, especially since tickets for the Chicago Stadium Series game go on sale tomorrow. Today, though, I'm able to get my tickets, since my dad is a Chicago Bears season ticket holder he's part of a group who's able to get the tickets a day in advance. But apparently, there's a lot of people who get to buy tickets a day early since we've been trying since about 10 AM today and still can't get onto TicketMaster. So we here at HJC will have Ryan attending the Winter Classic and I'll be in Chicago for the Stadium game...One way or another.... Who else is going to an outdoor game? It'd be really awesome if we had one person who contributes to HJC in one way or another going to each outdoor game. We'll have to talk about that in the comments.... OR.......

We could talk about it in the HJC Live Chat this Friday at 9:30 Est.!!! For those of you who haven't been a part of the live chats on the sight, it's a lot of fun. We'll talk about jersey and design news, hold live votes on concepts, and just have general conversations. I've been a part of the Live Chats here, and it's been awhile since we've had one, but it's really great to get together as a group, writers, artists, and frequent readers, and our leader Ryan. So if you're looking for something to do Friday night, come talk with us!

And while I'm telling you about something you should definitely do, you should also definitely vote!
COTY-November vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Dec 2-8 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
NCAA Outdoors entries (due Saturday @ 11:59am Eastern)

And oh hey, we have some NCAA contest entries today, so have a looksie at those.

And now today's normal concepts!

Niagara Ice Dogs (OHL) Concept - Ryan D.
Well, this one has some work to be done. Not going to lie. It suffers from "paint bucket-itis". There's really not a stripe patter but more of a color paneled template-y jersey.  The number on the back is too wide. The TV number on the front should be moved up so half of it is gone, otherwise it looks like the number is 99, plus, there's no TV numbers on the back. The logo is very pixelated. Now here's what I think this jersey could build off of, Keep the dog as the main crest and lose the words. Lose the red panels and develop a striping pattern for the arms and hem. The Reebok logo on the back should be the wordmark logo as well. Keep sending in concepts Ryan, you'll improve in no time!

Rating: 4/10

Quebec Nordiques Concept - Christian L.
Christian's take on the Nordiques is something I don't think I've ever seen. I'm a fan of the darker color scheme but not so much on the red jersey. Same goes for the name bar. The logo is interesting but I'm not a fan of wordmarks on jerseys. There's no Tv numbers which is too bad. Some of the striping goes outside the jersey outline and the blue kind of gets lost on the dark red.

Rating: 5/10

Toronto Maple Leafs Concept - Felix T.
Felix gives the Maple Leafs a green and yellow makeover. Not a fan. I can understand just the green, as there's some history to it. But adding yellow is something I can't agree with. The jersey as a whole doesn't look bad, but it'd look better just green and white. It'd look even better without the yoke outline.

Rating: 6/10

Winnipeg Jets Concept - Felix T.
Felix takes a shot at the Jets. I wouldn't be against a red jersey, but I miss the light blue. I don't like the angled/curvy hem stripe, it's encroaching onto Ducks' territory. The number font is a miss for me, and it's too small on the back of the jersey. I might like it better actually if the numbers were elongated like the Stadium Series jerseys.

Rating: 6.5/10

New York Islanders Alternate Jersey Concept - Dylan W.
Other Dylan entered into the Fishsticks Competition and this was his entry. Here's the thing. I like the overall design here. But the color scheme is the kicker. Not necessarily the scheme, but just the way it's used here. I like the colors and feel they could work together. But the orange and teal are competing. One of them needs to stick to just a trim color, they shouldn't be equally as prominent. I think you make that change and Boom...Fishsticks looks good.

Rating: 6.5/10

Owen Sound Attack (OHL) Concept - Ryan D.
And look at that, Ryan's second concept of the day is a vast improvement. Fun Fact, Owen Sound was playing the Sarnia Sting in the one OHL game I've been to. I think a jersey like this would look good as a third jersey in their current set. I like the use of yellow actually. And it's a very simple jersey, which fit in with their current set. The only thing I don't care with is the yoke color, I'd rather see it yellow with a red outline like the stripes, or even swap the striping colors. The OHL on the front is very pixelated and there's no TV numbers on the back. And the Reebok logo should be the wordmark.

Rating: 6.5/10

Anaheim Ducks Concept - Maxx B.
Maxx mixes eras for the Ducks! It's an idea that I think could work if done correctly. Here, the jerseys look great but the logo doesn't fit. I don't like the Duck foot in white. I don't know if any of the current logos for the Ducks could be done in these colors. I feel like the "D" could be yellow since yellow was technically in the old color scheme.

Rating: 7/10

New York Islanders Alternate Jersey Concept - Mike S.
Mike put together a little something for the Fishsticks competition. I like the color scheme but I feel like either orange or the teal needs to be a trim color. I don't like the white cuffs and hem with the brightness of the striping. Seems "over bright" for a dark jersey. I'd ditch the white on the cuffs and hem and maybe put it between the orange and teal stripes.

Rating: 7/10

Buffalo Sabres Concept - David K.
A lot of yellow Sabres jerseys comin' lately and I like it. It's really showing how a yellow sweater could work in Buffalo, just not the way the actual Sabres did it. I like the striping, especially the hem as it goes with the main logo so well. Not so big on the yoke stripes. Makes the jersey look too busy up top, especially since there's shoulder patches.

Rating: 7/10

Seattle Seahawks NFL Hockey Concept - Stephen T.
One of the best teams in the NFL right now is given the hockey jersey treatment. I love their color scheme. I don't care for the shoulder patches, too many Seahawk heads, plus one is missing on the back of the white jersey. I don't care for the stripes on the side of the jersey.. I do really like the pants stripe.

Rating: 7/10

Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) Concept - Jets96
Very simple jersey, but it's better than their overused Buffaslug jersey. I'm not a fan of the wordmark but the number font looks good. Seems to fit the look of the jersey well. Not much to say about this otherwise. Pretty straightforward design, nothing mind blowing, but done well.

Rating: 7/10

Detroit Red Wings WInter Classic Concept  - Dylan W.
Mr. Wonka re-does the Wings' Winter Classic jerseys and I got to say, I like this better than what they will be wearing on New Years' Day. The only thing I'm not sure about is the logo in the white stripe. I feel like it might need a thicker outline as it almost blends in with the white.

Rating: 8/10

Toronto Maple Leafs Winter Classic Concept - Dylan W.
Mr. Wonka also re-does the Toronto Winter Classic jersey. This one isn't too different from the real thing, it's a bit more simple. Everything except the yoke though. I like this striping on the yoke better than what they went with. Not huge on the Leaf though. I'd rather see the logo they use on their current alternate, but that's just because it's my favorite Leafs' logo.

Rating: 8/10

New York Islanders Concept - Jets96
Our good friend Jets has completed a set of jerseys reintroducing the Fisherman to the front of the Islander's jerseys. I've been saying I think the orange or teal should be a trim color and not be as predominant as the other, but I think it works here. If this striping was to be used I'd want to see the dark jerseys yoke disappear and all three arm/hem stripes be the same thickness. The last one on each jersey is slightly thinner.

Rating: 8/10

Phoenix Coyotes Concept - Justin C.
Mr. Cox is back! I love the idea of a "sand" colored jersey for the Coyotes. I'm also a huge fan of the Southwestern pattern for the striping. I'm basically a fan of everything on the jersey. Except for the sand colored cuffs on the dark jersey. I'd make the dark jersey's arms look like the socks. And I'd make the light jersey's socks look like the light jersey's arms. I'd also leave the pants blank. The Reebok-style collar on the IceBorn jersey is a good look.
