Monday: Arizona Has Made a Mistake
Hello! It is a Monday, so therefore I have written this post to commemorate the fact!
If you didn't watch the draft or read the hockey news lately, you may have discovered that the Arizona Coyotes unveiled a new jersey for next season, as well as updating both an alternate logo, showing off a new one, and a new wordmark. I'm going to review it like I normally do a jersey, so here it is:
Execution: Solid. (1/1)
Striping: Beautiful and classic. One thing I would've personally done is to place the the name inside of the nameplate, but that's just my personal opinion. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: Especially for an OHL team, yes! (1/1)
Creativity: Not overly creative, but using navy over black definitely helps this concept a lot. (1.25/2)
Other: I don't really have much to say. This jersey is just your typical jersey done well. Is it perfect? No, it's a very common design. Is it still a look that is great and can be used by any team? Yes! (3.5/4)
Overall: I love jerseys like this. They're just nice and plain, and that can always be a good thing. (9.25/10)
Execution: As always, you killed it. (1/1)
Striping: I love this nice straight slant. It works perfectly with how the logo is angled. One interesting choice is curving the arm stripes in rather than out to follow the pattern of the jersey. Good stuff and a great pattern. (2/2)
Effectiveness: This is by far my favorite jersey in this series, so of course it's a yes. (1/1)
Creativity: Killed. It. I have never seen a pattern this unique before, and it just looks so clean and well done. (2/2)
Other: The font curved up like that looks fantastic. I wish that there was a little bit more on the pants. (3.75/4)
Overall: Talk about a way to finish a series. (9.75/10) and a COTW Nom from me
Execution: The only items missing are the NHL and Reebok logos. (.75/1)
Striping: Simple and clean, this looks like any color identity in the league could use this scheme and get away with it easily. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: Alongside the other fan jerseys, I'd pick this any day. (1/1)
Creativity: This is a little strange. It's almost identical to Brandon's concept, minus a few slight changes per team and a chest stripe. I do have to be fair, but like I said, this striping pattern is very common. (1.25/2)
Other: What gives this jersey that little one up are those logos. What a great way to show off each team. I'd love to see a series of this for each and every team. (3.75/4)
Overall: It's very similar, but incredibly different. I would buy the Hawks jersey of this in an instant (9.25/10)
Execution: You're missing your NHL logo. Also, the inside of the jersey should fit the color on the outside. (.25/1)
Striping: The pattern on the hem looks unbalanced, as though the black stripe is shorter than the white. (1/2)
Effectiveness: As an alternate, I could see this work. (1/1)
Creativity: This isn't the most creative concept. It's very similar to the alternate that's coming, with the Weagle. (.75/2)
Other: I think this jersey kind of seems like a blank template. I would love to see what else this jersey has to offer, and I think that it would be stellar with just a bit more. (3/4)
Overall: Something tells me you listened to the podcast and got this idea from BPoe. Keep working at it, you're already doing great for your first few concepts! (6/10)

Other: It's good. Everything is very organized and well put together. I guess black is the best pant choice, but I'm not a huge fan of plain black pants. (3/4)

Execution: Everyone is killing it today, but I would've liked to see an NBA logo somewhere on the jersey. (.75/1)
Striping: Wow. I love this, it kind of gives me this weird vibe of Jurassic Park, which was a huge part of why this team is the Raptors. Like these tire mark-esque stripes, it seems like you're being chased by a pack of raptors. Also, sidenote, I did not like Jurassic World at all. (2/2)
Effectiveness: It makes me wish there was a second team in Toronto called the Raptors. (1/1)

Other: I wish there was some of that gray elsewhere in the concept. Maybe the pants or socks. (3.75/4)
Overall: Absolutely fantastic. You locked in the identity of the Raptors perfectly. (9.5/10)
Execution: The logo does look a little low. Try to center it between collar and stripes a bit more. Also include all necessary logos, i.e Reebok. (.5/1)

Effectiveness: The Stadium series is all about being progressive and modern. I don't know if this really takes that cake. (0/1)
Creativity: This striping is just way too similar to the current alternate. (1/2)
Other: The numbers are big, but it's a Stadium Series jersey, so it's a bit of a catch 22. The only change I have to put here is to change the underflap to a white. (3/4)

Execution: It's an NHL jersey, so this of course passes. (1/1)
Striping: God awful. There is such a generic yet busy design on the arms, but the body is completely blank outside of that little tail stripe. The jersey is just not balanced whatsoever, and is really lacking any sort of real depth to make it stand out. (.25/2)
Effectiveness: I'm sad I have to see this on the ice (0/1)
Creativity: I looked at this and was immediately reminded of the Penguins jersey that Lemieux wore, now the Penguin's alternate. I guess it does stand out in the NHL. (1/2)
Other: Ok, what the hell was Arizona thinking? There are two teams in the NHL that I think are allowed to use vintage white in their main set and get away with it. That's the Minnesota Wild and the Arizona Coyotes. Because BOTH TEAMS USE BEIGE IN THEIR LOGOS. There is no beige in this concept, and the addition of black was poor. What Arizona said it's doing for that "Southwest flare" belongs on the West coast, not in a state who's entire design is and was based around aboriginal and Native American heritage. The most dissapointing thing to me is that the new logo is beautiful. I think it looks great for the team's style, and wish it could've been featured on a monochrome jersey. (1/4)
Overall: I think the picture posted on the Uniform Database does this jersey justice. When it was unveiled on the players, it just didn't look like it fit right. I (3.5/10)
Some other changes were made during the draft that could be summed up in a few words
Anaheim: Used white laces on their home jersey instead of black. It looked pretty good, created some decent contrast on the jersey. I kind of preferred the black personally, though.
Colorado: Finally got rid of the "yeti foot" logo and replaced it with a very nice looking, albeit blended in, version of the Colorado flag's C, which was used by the Rockies.
Columbus: Switched their alternate jersey's logo to a more fitting color scheme and placed it on the shoulder. When I saw this, I was kind of surprised, because I was working on a logo with the EXACT SAME CHANGES for the HJC Open.
Edmonton: Brought back their classic WHA jerseys with numbers in the yoke. I actually did kind of like this style, even though the arms do look just a little bare.
Montreal: Decided to become incredibly vintage and add laces to their jerseys, as well as use the LNH logo. It's subtle, yet really hits home the "we're old fashioned!" style.

Jack, a little tip from a former writer: logos need not be cited if they are common logos, such as unedited NHL logos.
From the HJC Logo Use Policy on the About/Contact HJC page, "Citation is not needed when using former and current logos from commonly known sports teams".
It makes the blog seem amateurish when the writer doesn't know the blog's own rules.
Thank you very much for the advice, gentlemen. The changes to the post have been made. I'll keep this in mind down the road.

I feel like I've seen at least 10 better ideas for a new Arizona Coyotes jersey on this site alone.
