Monday: Just As Predicted
Welcome back to Monday, everyone!
It happened! It actually happened! After two incredibly stressful game sevens, my playoff bracket managed to get almost every single round accurate. Coming up now is a series between two of the best captains in the league. Last night, Ryan, Jets, BPoe, DBro and I recorded a podcast talking about the ins and outs of the final round. If you want to listen to five dudes talking hockey, listen to it. Especially if you want to hear about two Hawks fans having the time of their lives these past few seasons.

Not much in the way of graphic design-based hockey news unless you'd want to hear my opinion on Nashville's All Star guitar pick or the IceCaps logo that's actually just the same thing we had just recolored. I'll spare you the pain of my rambling and get on to the usual.

Each concept will be reviewed on five categories.
Execution: Are all the logos the right size, every element is included, are there any loose pixels, etc? The first part of creating any good concept is making sure that the foundation has been laid. (1/10)
Striping: What makes a concept more than what's in it? Outside of logos, which are usually already made, the stripes are where we as artists get to shine. Are the patterns solid? This also applies for yokes and fonts as well. (2/10)
Effectiveness: Does this have actual potential as a real jersey? Would a team actually make this jersey, whether it be for the fans or use it on the ice? A very important part of making a good jersey is making it be an effective statement on the ice, and off on the fans. This is a simple yes or no question (1/10)
Creativity: Is this something that goes against a team's established look? Is it something that no one expected? Does it work in the way it was intended? (2/10)
Other: Does everything fit together and work well? Is there anything else that needs inclusion? (4/10)
Execution: All the elements are solid here. You've got the Reebok logo, all the logos are fitting sizes. The only thing that's missing is the Reebok tag at the back of the jersey. (.75/1)
Striping: This striping pattern is strong here. It looks great repeated on both the socks and arms. I wish there was something more on the pants, but the logo is fine I suppose. I'm not a huge fan of this blocky font, it doesn't look as vintage as it should, and the fact that the name is interposed inside of a cream box. It feels like it IS vintage, but I'm just not a fan. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: This feels like the current alternate. Yes. (1/1)
Creativity: This is stated above. Outside of a lighter blue, this feels way too much like the current Columbus alternate. (.75/2)
Other: I really wish the shoulder logo was a bit more visible. It just seems to fade into the jersey. I also really like the collar here. It's very fitting for the concept. (3/4)
Overall: I feel like this has way too much of the current alternate. Is the current alternate bad? No. Is this concept bad? No. This jersey gets a (7/10)
Brian B. - Anaheim Ducks (based on the Mighty Ducks movie)
Just a special note from the writer, I love the Mighty Ducks movies. I actually used to call myself Knuckle Puck for a really long time.
Execution: Important elements are included, but the biggest issue that I have with the execution is the way the numbers are placed. Ryan made a tutorial regarding putting TV numbers in the teens on your jerseys. (1.5/2)
Striping: This is very interesting. I love the hem stripe here. What I'm not a fan of, though, is that yoke. The one from the movie is much more rounded and similar to the hem stripe. The pointed angular one looks tacky here. The Ducks font always looks good. (1/2)
Effectivness: Do I see this on the ice? I don't really know if I could. (0/1)
Creativity: I don't know if it is original taking a jersey and remaking it with different colors and logos. It's a novel idea, for the most part. (1.5/2)
Other: I really like the old Mighty Ducks logo with the wordmark over it. I'd love it on a real Ducks alternate. Also, note where you got your logos from! (2/4)
Overall: Like I said, it's novel. I think there were some more elements from the yoke that you could've carried over. (6/10)
Chase Carlson - Nashville Predators
Execution: Nothing but solid. Every element is included here. BUT make sure the stitching stops at the stripes (.75/1)
Striping: I don't know how I feel about this thick style and bowed arms. But honestly, if it weren't for that yoke I'd say it wouldn't work as well as it does. (1.75/2)
Effectiveness: It's strong, colorful, and screams Nashville. This is the alternate they need. (1/1)
Creativity: It's simple and nothing really new, but when it comes to Nashville, this jersey is actually incredibly original. In terms of Nashville's jerseys, (2/2)
Other: The biggest issues I have with this concept is the fact that A) the gloves are navy on navy sleeves, B) the Sabretooth logo seems to just blend into the shoulder, and C) the jersey looks so incredibly crowded. I don't know if that's really a bad thing, but it definitely detracts from the concept as a whole. Also, note where you got your logos from! (2.25/4)
Overall: I really like this, especially your own personal tag in the bottom corner. Creative use of logos there. But back to the jersey. As an alternate, this would be a perfect addition to Nashville's current set. (7.75/10)
Daniel Lowry - Colorado Avalanche
Execution: Yessir, you've got everything you need. (1/1)
Striping: The striping on this jersey definitely reminds me of the Stadium Series jerseys from last year, I really do like it. The yoke though is phenomenal. It's a perfect fit for the Avalanche's identity. The Colorado font is actually a great fit for the Nike template, something I wouldn't have expected. (2/2)
Effectiveness: If Nike ever took over the creation of jerseys for the NHL, I'd love to see this be the Colorado set. (1/1)
Creativity: As said before, the jersey's yoke is great. Most people put the mountain on the hem, and most of them also mirror that mountain shape in the yoke (i.e the Colorado's jersey from 1996-2007). It's nothing really new, though. Just more of a nice change. (1.25/2)
Other: I know this isn't your choice, but I always hated the fact that Colorado just randomly added black to their sets. But outside of the numbers, they're never really introduced in the actual jerseys. Although slight, you did add that slight black. Also, note where you got logos from! (3.5/4)
Overall: This is Nike concepts done right. (8.75/10)
ItWas3to0 - California Fullerton
Execution: I wish there was a tag in the back of the jersey, and the stitching continues beyond the striping. (.5/1)
Striping: A very plain striping concept, but that isn't all that bad. I wish the yoke had a thicker orange outline. I don't know if I'm a huge fan of the Carolina font. (1.25/2)
Effectiveness: For a college jersey, this works great. (1/1)
Creativity: Not incredibly creative, but it works great, and is definitely different from the current Fullerton jersey. (1/2)
Other: This is a decent jersey. I love the logos you used on this concept. (3/4)
Overall: I wish there was more creativity with this concept, but as a simple college team jersey, this works. (6.75/10)
Jamie Robertson - Chicago Blackhawks
Execution: Outside of a tag, this is all great. (.75/1)
Striping: The striping is absolutely gorgeous. It fits the numbers nice and snug, it perfectly fits the sleeves and hem. The pants are great, the socks are great. This is a great vintage concept. (2/2)
Effectiveness: I wish this was the Winter Classic jersey from this year, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. (1/1)
Creativity: This invokes thoughts of the barbershop pole jersey while still being original. The use of vintage white makes this look like the barbershop mixed with the 1936 jersey they recreated for the 2009 classic. (1.5/2)
Other: Great touch using the White Sox script. I just love vintage Blackhawks jerseys, call it a bit of a bias. Also, note where you got your logos from! (3.75/4)
Overall: I wish this was a new alternate for the Hawks. (9/10 and a COTW Nom from me!)
Vaughn Roberts - St Johns IceCaps
Execution: Everything here looks like it should be. (1/1)
Striping: On the home and away, the color swaps are interesting but also fitting. Wish the numbers were outlined to make them pop. I wish the arm stripes on the alternate were carried down to the hem, too. It's a nice simple pattern. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: Could this work for St Johns? I think the first two jerseys could work fine, but I don't know about the alternate. As I have to grade this as a whole, (0/1)
Creativity: The first two jerseys aren't that creative. The last one definitely is, and I commend you for it. (1/2)
Other: First of all, the choice of using a secondary logo for the away is interesting. Second, using a wordmark on the alternate is interesting, as it's a modern font on a very vintage-inspired jersey. (2.25/4)
Overall: Outside of that crazy vintage alternate, this set doesn't too much that's new. (5.75/10)

HJC Open Logo Comp (ends Tuesday, June 2 @ noon Eastern)
Now I'm gonna try something new. I've wanted to do something like this for a while. Sorry if these seems way too much like what BPoe did, but it seems like you guys really like this and I have the extra time to do it this week. I'm sorry BPoe, I'm just giving the people what they want.

Andrew Warren - Columbus Blue Jackets Alternate
Execution: All the elements are solid here. You've got the Reebok logo, all the logos are fitting sizes. The only thing that's missing is the Reebok tag at the back of the jersey. (.75/1)

Didn't know about the tutorial for number positioning or any other recent rule changes that I might have missed.
I'm a little confused about what you mean by Reebok tag at the back of the jersey. I've never seen any of the writers bring that up before.
