Saturday: Let The Tournament Begin
The HJC Open is upon us! You have until the end of Tuesday to get your Round Robin entry in. Check out the HJC OPEN page for all of the rules. If you break the rules you can't move on.
The winner of the COTW vote for June 14-20 was Chris W's Houston Aeros concept!
The new COTW nominees have been listed on the side of the page. Click on that black banner to see the concepts or go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. You may also notice that we're trying a poll on the side of the page again for COTW voting! I'm optimistic that this can work. Voting ends on Friday at 11:59pm Eastern. Just like competitions, you'll need a Google/Blogger account to vote.
The winner of the 2 Colour Competition was Jake88!
Congrats Jake. Perhaps you were not aware (or perhaps you are aware) that you can see many past competition winners. There's a link on the side of the page that you can click. Check it out, we've got quite a history posted there.
What an abundance of new sweaters we got during the 1st round of the Draft last night! We're trying to get a podcast going, but here's a quick note on each.
Edmonton - I love the orange WHA alternate! They now have a jersey set that people have been asking for since 2007!
Arizona - What the hell? This is either too many ideas coming together and not working as one. Or it was just a throw in by a Reebok artist and the design team in Arizona happened to choose it.
Colorado - Sorry to see the yeti foot logo go, but the state logo is a nice replacement. Too bad they missed the boat again on removing the piping and maroon on the sides!
Columbus - The canon logo was fine as the alternate logo. Not a bad logo, but it seems out of place on the regular home and away sweaters.
Montreal - I've wanted them to go to a solid white collar with laces for a while. Those Original 6 rivalry games will look even better now. Oh, and Habs suck!
Anaheim - Not really a huge deal, but their jersey at the Draft had white laces as opposed to the black ones they have been using. I prefer the black laces, but this could have also been a situation where they lost of forgot to bring the black laces and white was the only replacement available.
What did you think of the new sweaters? Boston fans, how do you feel about your new GM? I've written this on Friday night, so he may have pulled off something spectacular on Saturday.

Arizona's set feels like such a pointless exercise. It's not better than the set it replaces, doesn't build the team brand, or make them more unique. I thought they would have listened to the response their 90s throwback jerseys got this year and realized that what people want is a jersey set that is similar to that. I've seen so many well-executed Coyotes' sets that have done just that on this site, that I can only look at this redesign as a waste of time and effort.
Also, Colorado's foot logo was one of my least favorite secondary logos in the league, but that was not the main problem with their jerseys. Their set communicates complacency to their fanbase.
