Tuesday: Vacation Post

Today I'm writing from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Normally my posts take place in Buffalo but a little vacation never hurt anyone. Except my skin, which is burnt. You know what else is making my vacation better? Knowing that my Sabres made some top notch moves. How was the draft for your team? Like the trades? Picks? Basically we had a party in Buffalo. Nice feeling drafting a kid that has top star potential. Can't wait for October already.

During the draft we got to look at some jerseys. I'm sure you've all seen already. I'll put my small notes here. For Arizona I really do like the design, except I don't think it fits Arizona. Edmontons Alternate was a huge surprise and McDavid looked great in it. That orange is pretty. The other ones are pretty small changes. Colorado needs new jerseys. Montreal now looks even more ace, and I'm not even going to comment on the Ducks. Nothing really.

So since I'm vacation. I'll keep these probably shorter. I would have asked someone else to do it but a nice calm chillaxing post is something I wanted to do. So let's get these started.

-----------------------------------

HJC Open Round Robin entries (due TONIGHT @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW June 21-27 poll (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
------------------------

Philadelphia Flyers Concept - Andrew W.
Double color is always a classy move. When I first saw this I have to say I was surprised because I actually like the Flyers logo in that one color. When it comes to the striping I think it would be a better decision to bring in the flyers cuff swoop that they usually have. I think the Northwestern pattern you have is a little generic, and on the arms it gets a little jumbled with the TV numbers. Maybe just trying the Flyers one stripe could make it look better. To me at least. Surprised with this one. It's growing on me the more I look at it.

Washington Capitals Concept - Dylan T.
Dylan uses, what I think should have been the primary logo for Washington's Winter Classic. Dylan I think has a decent idea here. He has a nice yoke design off to the shoulders but I think the rest of the jersey falls flat. Just adding a one stripe look makes this boring to me. Doesn't fit the yoke. Was this a two color jersey entry? If so I can understand why it is what it is but hypothetically I don't think this looks good with just red. Blue would definitely be a healthy addition. So I say, add some character to the striping. Make it all fit with the rest of the jersey. Also as it's been said before. TV numbers, name and number on the back should be a must when sending in concepts. Yes it might be a little extra but going that extra mile for concepts make them look much better.

100th Anniversary Night - Taylor R. & J3
T-Roy & J3 make a 100th Anniversary night concept for every team. These are all throwbacks for one team to another. I'll just say, this would be awesome to see for a night. I'm not going to review everything since these are all existing jerseys but for the most part I'm a fan of the choices. Without looking I'm assuming these are all the first jerseys each team wore? They are all done nicely and like I said, would be awesome to see.

Rating: This needs to happen!

Colorado Avalanche Concept - Lucas D.
First things first, need to put an ID on this. Don't you want people to know who made this? Anyways, if this is going to be a whole series on who benefits from the Ducks template I'm actually curious to see the different looks you have. Colorado I think would be higher up there on the list. The arm and side striping better fits them than their current jerseys. With the Ducks though i think the round yokes are a problem with the modern, sleek, quick look. If you stay with the look though I would actually have the yoke on the burgundy jersey white to fit the whole scheme more. I think that would simply look better too. Or the blue needs a white outline. Take your pick.

Rating: 7/10 Upgrade from their current, but they need their own.

Utah Jazz Concept - Taylor R.
T-Roy is back with the NBA series. This is great. Right off the bat. Love their color scheme and love the look translated to an NHL jersey. I don't know if I can find something I don't like. It's executed nicely all the way around. Perhaps the shoulder logo could be bigger but that's not much. Everything else is beautiful to me.

Los Angeles Kings Concept - Vaughn R.
Another two color concept for this post. For a logo on a two color jersey I think you chose the right one for the Kings. However I think you used it wrong in my opinion. I think the letters should be colored in with gold and the rest of the jersey should almost pay homage to their old jerseys. However, stay away from making exact copies. Mixing it up...two stripes? Vertical stripes? Chest stripe? Also the thickness of the stripes and outlines are all different and it doesn't make the jersey look like it's one. It's all over the place. I'd say nay to the front number and with everything just being one stripe I would take the outline off the numbers.

Buffalo Sabres Concept - Colin M.
Last concept of the day is my hometown team. I'll start off by saying I like the logo choice. I'll go on to say that I don't think the jersey fits it. In theory people like to think NIKE would make the NHL a more modern look. I agree for the most part. I think original classic teams would stay but they would experiment with others. If they did choose this logo for the Sabres or something similar I would have to think the jersey would be more modern. Right now it's just basically their currents with no gray. In fact I think if NIKE took over and with this logo there should be more silver/gray. I would go back to the drawing board. I like the jersey design but just not with that logo. The alternate is a start but I think could be better. Just a B for the logo is kind of cutting it close with the Bruins. Double gold stripes I think could be something but I say a better logo is in need. Also I don't think a rounded yoke is necessary. Or a yoke at all. It screams classic but just needs a couple changes.

Hopefully when I return to the 716 next week I'll be back to normal. I'll quickly end off this post with saying T-ROY'S JAZZ CONCEPT IS MY NOMINATION!

I'm going to get some sleep now for a long day tomorrow again at the beach and golf time. See ya next week!

I second Taylor R's Jazz concept. It looks great.

The yoke is not working for me but the Avs using the Ducks template really isn't that bad.
