Monday: Summertime Saadness 2 Electric Boogaloo
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Monday!
I don't have much hockey news to talk about, but I have website news to talk about! Guess what folks? THE OPEN IS TRUCKIN' ALONG! I've already peeked at some of the submitted concepts (oopsies) and I can assure you it is a tough competition. Everyone's submitted quality work so far, but now everyone is really bringing their A Game.
Votes are also going, including the very great 2nd quarter COTY vote, as well as the usual COTW vote.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris W. - Illinois State Redbirds
Execution: Nailed it (1/1)
Striping: The alternate jersey stripes are very nice. A classic style that resonates with a lot of hockey fans. The plain set, on the other hand, is a little strange. I don't like the tail stripe, especially when the arms are so crazy and original. (1/2)
Effectiveness: The alternate set is very collegiate, but I could see the plain set on the ice. (1/1)
Creativity: In terms of college jerseys, I can definitely say this is original. Whereas most teams try to maintain a sense of tradition, the logos you have fit perfectly with a modern template. (1.5/2)
Other: This font you used is fantastic! It fits perfectly with the ISU letters. The roundel is also solid. I'm not a fan of coloring the nameplate, so I am going to dock a point for that, but hell, everything looks nice. (3/4)
Overall: I know this might be a little biased against ISU, granted I grew up thinking I was going to be a Brave at Bradley (for any of you who care, I'm gonna be at Monmouth College studying communications. Still Illinois. Woo woo Illinois). But that aside, this is definitely a great set. (7.5/10)

Leo Derisivic - Arcadia-Brathurst Titans
Execution: Looks solid, I'd just shift the C and CCM logo up to the yoke. (.75/1)
Striping: This looks way too modern to me. I'm just not a big fan of these modern style jerseys, and I especially prefer having something going around the entirety of the tail. (1/2)
Effectiveness: It could be a jersey. I just don't know if it works for the Titans. (0/1)
Creativity: I've seen a few modern Titans concepts before, but not enough to warrant a dockage of too many points. (1.5/2)
Other: This jersey just doesn't seem all that connected to me. Nothing feels like it fits into place. I think my biggest issue is the fact that the jersey for a logo like this should be a more classic style. (2/4)
Overall: I don't think I've reviewed a concept of yours before, so hello and welcome! This is a good start. It's just not my cup of tea. (5.25/10)

Ryan Christensen - Fort Wayne Komets
Execution: Got it. (1/1)
Striping: Definitely strange. I understand the process behind it, but hell. I like it. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: If the Komets came back, they'd do it in this. (1/1)
Creativity: Definitely original in terms of the team. (1.75/2)
Other: The Komets logo is very not good. I get it's supposed to be a comet, but my brain has been hardwired to only see it as a saw blade. This jersey just looks like the teeth of a saw to me. The Minnesota spiky font looks great on this though, it fits perfectly with this set. (3/4)
Overall: This fits in perfectly with the team's identity, I'm just not a fan of the team's identity. (8.25/10)

Ryan Christensen - Mock Winter Classic
Execution: Two small issues. One is the missing NHL logos. The second are the extra floating pixels above the right arm on the Toronto jersey. (.5/1)
Striping: I love this pattern a lot. It's simple, modern, and fun. (2/2)
Effectiveness: The issue with it being modern is that this is a Winter Classic. The event is supposed to bring back old jerseys or faux concets. (0/1)
Creativity: I've never seen this idea on both these teams. It looks great, but it reminds me too much of the old Hawks throwback in terms of Winter Classic, and too much like last year's Stadium Series in general. (1/2)
Other: I don't think there's much else to say here. The Toronto color should be white instead of blue, though. (3.5/4)
Overall: This is a fun concept, it just doesn't fit the title all too well. (7/10)

Chase Carlson - Chicago Blackhawks
Execution: First, you're missing the Reebok logo on the back. Second, the stitching should stop after the stripes. (.25/1)
Striping: It's very similar to the old black alternate, but introduces shoulder stripes. I don't think these two mingle all too well. If the bottom stripe was white, with a red block yoke a la Rangers, I could see it. (1/2)
Effectiveness: I don't think this would work for the team outside of another Winter Classic appearance, which will probably not happen. (0/1)
Creativity: Like I said, it's an exact copy of the black minus a yoke, as well as a new logo. I've never seen the white before, so I'm a little confused. There are original ideas, but not enough to warrant a full score. (1/2)
Other: The Saad thing brought back some terrible memories. Oh well. It looks like a Hawks concept to me. (3/4)
Overall: It looks like a Hawks concept, but I want to see a Hawks concept that truly separates itself. (5.25/10)

Well, that's it for today folks! Sadly, I don't think that I can give out a COTW nomination because I don't think there is a standout concept in the bunch! Please, if you disagree with that and think there's a clear winner, then leave a comment below. I'd love to hear your opinions!
That's all for today. I hope you the best damn week you've ever had!

COTW Nom to Ryan C.'s Fort Wayne jersey. The identity of the team is not comet at all, but with the identity that they had, you made it work spectacularly.
COTW nom to Chris W's Redbirds set. Love it!
I'll second the nomination for Chris W.
