Wednesday: Ads Add New Logo
Howdy HJCrs! Hope you've all had a good week since last we spoke. I know I have, I spent the weekend in Eau Claire, Wisconsin enjoying the inaugural Eaux Claires music festival and it was a blast. And, as Mr. Wonka, er, Nowak, er, Other Dylan mentioned in yesterday's post, I celebrated my birthday yesterday. I turned 23, and if what Blink 182 says is correct, nobody likes you when you're 23, I may be in for a sad year.
Anyway, after my post last week, we all got a big surprise and the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL unveiled new logos and uniforms. I'm sure by now you've all seen them and are bored of people critiquing them so I'll just say... I like them. I was sad to see the cartoony skeleton gone, but he's still sticking around on the alternate. The new logos grew on me pretty quick, but the uniforms are meh.
Personally, I think that the new logos, and especially the jerseys would have looked better if they had stuck with the black and powder blue color scheme.
Enough of that. You should vote. The HJC Open is down to the final 4 and there's some pretty good entries. And, as always, the COTW is up for voting.
To the concepts!

St. Johns IceCaps Concept - Dylan G.
The IceCaps are swapping color schemes and Dylan has an idea on how to utilize it on the uniforms. Very basic striping, fits well given who their new parent club is. I like the dark sleeves on the white jersey. The one part I'm not super wild about is the red trim along the hem. Also, the wrong AHL logo is used on the back of the jersey. The player name also seems to be a bit on the big side.

Connecticut Whale Concept (NWHL) - Matt Mc.
Good ol' McElboy. I like to sneak his name into a post from time to time but now I have a reason to type it. Matt entered the NWHL's jersey design contest and, like him, I was disappointed to see the final selections the league made. I don't mean to badmouth those who were picked, congratulations, but seeing Matt's entries this week and some of the others that were entered makes me wonder what they were looking for?
Anyway, the design is pretty close to what the original Hartford Whalers wore. I would personally move all the arm striping down, so that way, the dark jersey's sleeves aren't mostly white. I'd also add the white hem to the dark jersey. The phantom yoke isn't needed either. Overall, a really good looking set and perhaps what the league or team should have chosen.

Detroit Tigers Hockey Jersey Concept - Matt G.
Wow. Very visually appealing set here. The tiny bit of orange in the striping really pops out and I love it. The sublimated tiger pattern is interesting but I think you could do without it, or even use it on just the alternate. Modern twist on a classic looking jersey. The home/away gloves look fantastic. The one thing I don't like on the alternate is the arm striping, way too thick when compared to the rest of the striping. Lastly, the D logo on the pants. You could get rid of the Iceborn branding if you're trying to show the team logo. If the team logo is on the right leg (as showed above) then the IceBorn branding would be on the left leg, and invisible in this graphic. Also, why does it say NHL RED WINGS on the bottom. Kind of weird.

There you go! Only 4 concepts today, but damn, were they some good ones!

New Zealand Warriors Away Uniform - National Rugby League - Daryl D.
Daryl puts the NZ Warriors Rugby team in hockey jerseys. From what I'm gathering, the logo used here, half colored, half grayscale, is some sort of anniversary logo. You should just choose one logo with one color scheme. Maybe go black/white/gray for a primary and blue/green/white for a clash. The jersey striping is grayscale and very very busy, while the collar, socks, and pants are all blue, green, and simple. The striping between the pants and socks doesn't even match. No blue on the helmet or gloves is odd. This seems to be a mish mash of several different ideas. I'd whittle it down to just one or two of the best ideas.Rating: 5/10

NHL RED WINGS is the font that I used. I couldn't find the actual Tigers jersey font and the Red Wings use a font on their sweater that's very similar.
I think it says NHL red wings because that's the font used.
Ah, ok that makes sense. I'd say that's one of those things you don't really have to post. Unless it's a wild font or someone specifically asked.
At the very least label it as "font used" or something like that.
The idea was to reebok-ify the original Whalers uniform for my whale uniform.
@Matt - Yeah I can see that.
