Friday: The World is a Beautiful Place and I am no Longer Afraid of Hockey
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! TGIF!
It's another day here on HJC, and I'd like to welcome you back to the usual fare!
Our preseason has officially started. Which means the real season is coming. And that makes me happy. For those of you playing fantasy hockey this season, I'm glad to see that I've got good company. I can't say I have many predictions, but I can say that as unrealistic as it might be, I really do believe the Hawks will get another title. If not, the Ducks. Either way, it's gonna be in the west or... one of my... favorite... teams.
Ok, enough bias.
The Kamloop Blazers did a thing!
Wow. This is... an upgrade? I'm sorry, it's hard to look at this and not say "Blackhawks jersey with lace collar." But it is far from that. It is different, but the similarities just stick through. The colors are great but I don't think they work here, and on top of that I think the logo is boring and way too big. I give it a (5/10). This jersey feels like the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks had a baby. It just feels strange to me.
Creativity: It is a very creative idea I suppose. It draws on the ideas of teams like Tampa, but it does have its own originality in the color scheme and concepts of the piping and arms. (1/2)
Other: There is a great set of free fonts for download right here on the website. If that isn't what you're looking for, maybe some templates. Either way, what I'm getting at is that this font is too much. It isn't a hockey, or sports font. Check out the templates section of the website for more details. Also, rule of thumb, don't italicize anything but the front font. It looks a little tacky on the nameplate. (2/4)
Overall: I can see potential in you as a designer, but I feel as though this jersey could use a lot of edits. You've got the creativity, now it's just time to put it into practice. (4.25/10)
Brooks F - Huntsville Blast
Creativity: The reason I took the point off of the striping was because that pattern is very overdone. It doesn't look bad, it's just not all that creative or enticing. The alternate on the other hand I would say is. (1.5/2)
Other: I feel as though, and call me crazy, but maybe the light blue would work great as a home, and have a black away. Other than that, I can't say much about this. (3/4)
Overall: Overall, great work. I'm definitely seeing a lot of growth in your concepts and I love that. Keep at it! (8.25/10)
Jimmy T - Boston Bruins
Creativity: This here is the issue. It doesn't seem that creative. But here this is a good thing. The alternate should be used to do something different, to show another side of the team. This jersey draws heavily from the 1965 Bruins jersey, an absolute classic, yet it does so by improving on it. (1/2)
Other: I just don't know about that logo. I think it's the best choice here, but it doesn't balance out the jersey properly. I feel as though if it did have maybe a white body, it would make it so much deeper of a jersey. Other than that, great work. (3.5/4)
Overall: Fantastic work on this jersey. It's a little classic. It's a little modern. It's all in all a great jersey. (8.5/10) and a COTW nom
Taylor R - Florida Panthers
Creativity: I think that this jersey is very similar to the original Panthers jersey. That's good, but not in the same way as the Bruins like above. The Bruins have a deep history, almost 100 years old. The Panthers are more modern, and don't have much of a history at all. Still, it's not a bad idea. (.75/2)
Other: I don't have much else to say, everything else here is pretty solid. (4/4)
Overall: I can't wait to see the rest of this set if there is one. This is a great jersey! (8.25/10)
Alright, that's the post! Hope you folks enjoyed.

Make sure to vote for the COTW this week!
COTW Sept 13-19 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Ben S - Kent State
Execution: Check out Ryan's old post in tutorials on how to handle using ones on your jerseys! Other than that, it's all good. (.75/1)
Striping: I'm not a huge fan of this lightning idea. It's a great idea, don't get me wrong, but the execution of it needs some work. What would really make this cool is if the lightning bolts met at the pit. Or just find a way to make the bolts meet the stitching, make it look more professional. (.5/2)
Effectiveness: I don't really know if this is ice ready yet. (0/1)Creativity: It is a very creative idea I suppose. It draws on the ideas of teams like Tampa, but it does have its own originality in the color scheme and concepts of the piping and arms. (1/2)

Brooks F - Huntsville Blast
Execution: Great job here! (1/1)
Striping: Ok, wow. This is such a cool concept. I looked at that alternate and thought of two things: Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear. Great designs are the ones that create an immediate connection with the viewer. This is one of those designs. This is vintage chic done in such a cool way. (1.75/2)
Effectiveness: Yes yes and yes. (1/1)Creativity: The reason I took the point off of the striping was because that pattern is very overdone. It doesn't look bad, it's just not all that creative or enticing. The alternate on the other hand I would say is. (1.5/2)

Jimmy T - Boston Bruins
Execution: Good work (1/1)
Striping: It's got this clean look to it that I truly enjoy. I think all together this jersey just looks so incredibly coherent. I think this is such a clean jersey. (2/2)
Effectiveness: I think it's leagues better than the current, and I love that jersey a lot. (1/1)Creativity: This here is the issue. It doesn't seem that creative. But here this is a good thing. The alternate should be used to do something different, to show another side of the team. This jersey draws heavily from the 1965 Bruins jersey, an absolute classic, yet it does so by improving on it. (1/2)

Taylor R - Florida Panthers
Execution: It's a 1! (1/1)
Striping: I really do like this type of slanted striping, I just don't know how well it works for Florida. It's a little basic, so there isn't much else to say. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: It is better than the bland current jerseys. (1/1)Creativity: I think that this jersey is very similar to the original Panthers jersey. That's good, but not in the same way as the Bruins like above. The Bruins have a deep history, almost 100 years old. The Panthers are more modern, and don't have much of a history at all. Brooks F.'s Huntsville Blast Concepts for COTW! That 3rd jersey is beautiful
Blazers new jerseys are basically a mish mash of old Oilers jerseys...

cotw taylor r. beautiful panthers jerseys!
I second Taylor R. for COTW.
Actually I never really took that into consideration DBro. I think I should put down the textbooks and start memorizing all the NHL jerseys, probably would be a big help for me. But hey, I still don't think it was that stellar of a jersey regardless. That logo just doesn't fit in my opinion.
Today had a lot of great concepts, it was really tough to choose just one. I'm glad we have some variation!
