Thursday: Ideas Needed
Hello again, and welcome back again for another Thursday post.
So I hate to be doing this again, but I'm keeping this intro very brief. The main reason for this is that I've been trying to think of a new "series" to begin on my posts. I'm trying to think of something that would fit well on the blog and preferably hasn't been done yet, or at least not recently. I believe the closest I've gotten to something like this is my previous "Top 5 Weekly Matchups" countdown. I discontinued it because I felt the same teams kept getting repeated and it was getting stale. If you guys disagree and want to see it come back, leave a comment and tell me - and if you guys have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear them as well. Anyways, enough rambling on about that, let's get on with it.
---------------------
So you probably don't want to hear about the All Star jerseys again, but here we are, having a competition to redesign them. While talking about the regular jerseys may be a bit old, it's nice to see some new ideas, and if you have one then enter it! We also have a vote going on. And another one. What are you waiting for? Just do it!
4th QTR vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Jan 10-16 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
All-Star Game entries (due Friday @ 10:59pm Eastern)
---------------------
Alan S. - Colorado Avalanche
Presentation: You need to ADD ID so your work doesn't get stolen. I don't think anyone wants to see that.
Colors: I like the emphasis on white, it gives the concept a "snowy" look for lack of better words. However the blue blends into the maroon too much, I'd lighten the blue up, or surround the blue areas with white.
Design: Very, very reminiscent of their current alternate jerseys combined with their stadium series look. Very conservative, and a solid design.
Execution: The name looks a bit small and the C patch is too close to the shoulder yoke. I'd suggest moving the logo down slightly to accommodate that.
Overall: 8.5/10
Ben S. - Miami University
Idea: It's always cool to see patterns like this incorporated in designs.
Logos: Usually wordmark logos like this on hockey jerseys don't look too great. Their stylized M logo would be a much better fit.
Design: Overall I like the striping pattern and design. I'd remove the light pattern in the yoke stripes though, I think that makes it slightly too busy.
Overall: 8/10
Brooks F. - Gatineau Olympiques
Design: This is a well pulled off, modern design that fits the Olympiques very well.
Typography: The font fits really well with this concept, mainly because it does have the modern design.
Colors: I think this is the one place you really missed out. Bringing back their old color scheme would have looked great on this concept. The black, white, and gray just looks bland.
Overall: 8.5/10
Jay S. - Miami Heat
Idea: Crossover series are always fun to see, this is no exception
Design: I can see the inspiration from their current jerseys, but I can also see new ideas. I think that's the best way to do one of these.
Balance: For the colors to be balanced better, the white jersey should have more black. However, it gets a pass from me, as this more accurately reflects their jerseys.
Execution: The numbers are too big - which would be more obvious if it was a double digit number - and the names look a bit small. The logo looks a bit big as well.
Overall: 7.5/10
Lucas D. - Nashville Predators
Design: simple stripes overall, but the "fangs", at least that's what I'm assuming they're supposed to be, give it a unique touch
Colors: Blue, white, and yellow isn't a completely unique color scheme in the NHL, but the Predators definitely make it look unique. Using all 3 colors as a primary color for one jersey each is a nice idea.
Typography: Not sure why but I'm not a huge fan of this font on this concept. Maybe it's just me though.
Other comments: I think this could make a good set, with the blue and yellow jerseys as alternating home jerseys, each worn for about half of the time. The white would obviously be the road jersey.
Overall: 8.5/10
Matt G. - Barrie Colts
Design: Very conservative design, but it's hard to go wrong with that.
Colors: Interesting choice relegating red to only the third jersey. Not sure how I feel about that, but it's a good way of utilizing a minor color for the alternate.
Realism: This is really nitpicking but considering that the gloves for all of the jerseys are primarily blue, and the color palette for all 3 jerseys is the same, I think it would be better to use the same glove design for all of the jerseys. Just seems like a better approach to me.
Logos: Much better choice for the primary logo, as opposed to their current cartoonish logo. I'm fine with keeping it on the alternate though.
Overall: 8/10
Taylor R. - Tampa Bay Lightning
Colors: Bringing back the black and silver looks good and gives the Bolts a unique color scheme. Good choice.
Design: It looks modern, and at the same time it looks somewhat classic. Keeping hem stripes off of this concept adds to that look, and while I usually don't like it it think it works here. The yoke fits great as well and definitely adds to the modern look.
Typography: Wow that font is amazing. Works perfectly for a more modern style and really well for Tampa as well.
Logos: I like the idea of combining the past 2 "eras" of their jersey designs, but I'm not sure how well it would work, with pretty different aesthetics between the two.
Overall: 9/10
This is honestly a pretty tough choice, but I think my COTW nomination will go to Taylor's Lightning concept.
---------------------
That's all for today's post. Don't forget to send some ideas my way for a new feature on my posts if you have any, I'd appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you again next week.

2ND Taylor's lightning concept... Hell ya! They need those now
I wouldn't mind seeing a series of the top worst jerseys in NHL history
Taylor's Lightning concept for COTW!
I have a new series suggestion. Why not suggest outdoor game match ups? Or maybe rank Winter Classic or Stadium Series jerseys?
IDEAS: Since you have Thursday, a "Throwback Thursday" idea would be awesome. Where you feature a "throwback" or "vintage" jersey and critique it. Whether it's real, a concept, or both.. featuring 1 as the first critique would be cool.
That actually would be a cool idea for the site to have, feature 1 vintage/ Winter Classic/ Throwback jersey concept to feature every Thursday as the main topic. Personally I'm a huge fan of them, hence my Griffins concept and the Tampa concept I sent in recently. Just a thought.
I'll 4th Taylor Roy's Tampa concept for COTW.
I'll 3rd Taylor's Lightning concept, it's near perfect and would look great on ice!
Woah, if I could nominate Taylor Roy's Tampa Bay Lightning concept I would. Really nice work. But there's the stupid admin-prohibitation.
Heck, why not? FAKE COTW 5TH NOMINATION TO TAYOR ROY'S TAMPA BAY LIGNING CONCEPT!!!!
Also, what is that font called?
GO JACKETS!!! GO MONSTERS!!! GO BUCKS!!! GO ALL-STARS (minus John Scott) !!!
