Week of April 16-22, 2012
The COTW April 9-15 nominees have been announced. They are listed on the side of the page and you can see them by clicking that banner or going to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Committee Members can now begin to vote on this.
And of course, here are your reminders;
All you Committee Members, we need your vote especially for the HJC jersey competition. It is VERY close and any votes that come in will help avoid ties. That vote ends on Wednesday at 11:59pm Eastern time.
For those of you that are getting antsy for a new HJC competition, the next one will be announced and begin next Monday. Here are a few of hints; it will be a classic ReDesign, of a team that wears red-black-white, who are not in the NHL.
Please remember that the /10 thing that I am doing is just my own instant reaction. If anyone doesn't like it please leave a comment.
New York Islanders concepts (by NB14)
For the most part these are well executed, but there are some spaces around the laces on the blue jersey that have not been re-coloured. As a complete set I also don't like the lack on continuity. Another point for everyone is to really try and think about a good presentation. This is a little too long, a 1100px (width) by 700px (height) is ideal. 4/10
New Jersey Devils concept (by Kirk)
Kirk didn't like my critique of his last concepts that I posted and he emailed me and said he wasn't going to read HJC anymore. I hope that's not the case, but I do post everything that gets sent to me. So his concepts that he has sent in will continue to be posted. I also hope that he takes the notes that are given to help everyone get better. This one has some potential, but the NOB needs to be bigger, the Reebok wordmark needs to be on the back and I don't think the white hem trim fits with hem stripes. 4/10
Acadie-Bathurst Titan concepts (by Jérémi H.)
This striping patterns seems to work better for teams other than the Dallas Stars. Things are pretty good here except for loose pixels around the logo and I also think that the logo needs to be bigger. 5/10
St. John Sea Dogs concepts (by Elias)
I like these, but I think the TV numbers are way too low. They would nearly be covered up by the players' gloves. Seeing as this is a QMJHL team, I really like it when concept artists take the time to remove the NHL marks and try to be as authentic as possible and use the appropriate league markings. 6/10
Montreal Canadiens concepts (by Stephen T.)
This is a neat idea where Stephen has swapped the colours on the Habs' jerseys. The biggest issue on these is the backwards TV number (6). Even better would have been if Stephen swapped the colours on the collars as well. 5/10
Phoenix Coyotes concept (by Tyler G.)
Tyler has added a yoke outline and hem stripes. New features also include small white trimmed cuffs and "PHX" on the side of the helmets. I agree that the hem stripes should be added, but I am not a fan of the yoke outline. The execution here is superb! 7/10
Vancouver Canucks concepts (by Thomas L.)
Thomas has gone back and adjusted the first concept that he sent to HJC (top). The execution is 10x better, but I'm still not a fan of the lighter blue in this instance. I do really love to see how much people have improved. Keep improving Thomas, we can all always get better. 7/10
Minnesota North Stars concepts (by Tyler G.)
Tyler has Edge-ified the North Stars' sweaters of the early 80's. Again, his execution is fantastic! 9/10
Dallas Stars concepts (by Dylan A.)
These are definitely better than what they wear now. I like the stars on the cuffs, but in my opinion there are too many. I also like the use of that star as the shoulder patch. For the 3rd jersey, I'd like to see a different striping pattern than the home jersey. 9/10
Team Canada concept (by Steven G.)
Steven has created his own concept site. Go take a look, sg-94.blogspot.ca. Steven has altered the 2002 Olympic alternate jersey to fit the Nike Swift template. He has also used the sublimated pattern, from the 2010 Vancouver games, inside the leaf. I love it, I think it looks classy, and the presentation and execution is perfect! COTW nom from me. 10/10
And of course, here are your reminders;
