Wednesday: More for the Rivermen
Those writers who applied and advanced to Phase 2 have now all been contacted and given their Phase 2 post times. A thank you goes out to everyone who applied. Phase 2 posts will begin showing up here on the blog this weekend!
It's the middle of summer and, perhaps for some, hockey sweaters are the last thing on people's minds. Which may explain the lack of COTW votes that have come in. However, if you are a Committee Member and you haven't voted in the COTW vote yet, take a moment now to look over the nominees and shoot in a quick email with your vote.
Last week I got an email from Kevin W. looking for a Under Armor template, which he got and can be found on the TEMPLATES page. Kevin felt like he could return the favour to HJC and he has provided a Nike Swift sock template. It's based on this jersey sheet. You will also now be able to find this on the TEMPLATES page.
Here are some more Panthers 3rd Jersey Competition entries. There are more, but I haven't looked them over yet.
Panthers entry (by Caz)
Panthers entry (by Ricky #1)
Panthers entry (by Ricky #2)
Panthers entry (by Tristan)
Calgary Flames concepts (by Tyler G.)
It's difficult to accept this as a concept because we know those numbers as the Wild's numbers. I suppose you want us to look at them as "fire numbers", but I will see them as "fur numbers". This also lacks creativity, in my opinion. Well executed though. 5/10
Pythons concept (by J3)
I like the colours and the simple jersey. I think the numbers on the front of the jersey are too big though. It might also be better to have the outlines on the numbers match the striping of the jersey (blue-white-gold). A decent concept for a first time contributor. 6/10
Idaho Steelheads concepts (by WinnipegJets96) *Description on concept. 7/10
Concord Crimson Tide concepts (by Brady)
I like the jerseys except on the white sweater I would switch the black with the red, but only on the stripes. Again I'm not crazy about using an already established logo, but I believe that kind of thing is encouraged in US school sports. Is it not? 7/10
Ottawa Senators concepts (by Justin N.)
I like the white sweater. It's a nice call back to the original white jersey. Good choice with the updated side profile logo. The Peace Tower/leaf shoulder patch is a decent idea, but not as good as what they were wearing on the pre-Edge alternates. The TV numbers do seem a bit small on these concepts. 7/10
Vancouver Canucks concepts (by Bobby P.)
I really like the retro home and road sweaters, but I would personally switch the logos. The alternate is nearing perfection, but I would like to see the blue and white stripes together with no green in between. A blue helmet might be better than a green one, and Johnny Canuck could use a thin white outline, I think anyways. 8/10
Montreal Canadiens concept (by Jesper)
Here Jesper combines the home and the road sweaters. The result has some potential. If you;re going to do the blue stripe across the chest I think the numbers need to be a different colour or have a single thick outline. Also, I would make the two thin hem stripe into a single red hem stripe. 7/10
Brooklyn Syndicate concepts (by WhiteLightning)
I really like the pinstripe pattern of the alternate jersey, but again we've seen that jersey design several times from White in the past month. The home and road are certainly creative, I just don't know if anyone would want to see their team look like that on the ice. The nickname patch on the front of the jersey seems very "XFL" to me. I like the progressive ideas, I just don't know if hockey is the place for them. 8/10
Peoria Rivermen concept (by HJC)
This was my final entry into the team's contest. I was inspired by the Tampa Bay Rays promotion where they wore jerseys based on "what if" they were around in 1979. I created this thinking, "what if the Rivermen were around in the 1940's?".
Peoria Rivermen concept (by Scott M.)
This is just straight up a very good looking HOCKEY jersey from Scott! These need to be slapped on the backs of the Peoria players next season. I don't know if this is original enough to win the contest, but it's definitely classy. 9/10
Peoria Rivermen concept (by D3troit1388)
I really like the stripes on this jersey and the execution is top notch. You all know how I feel about these Bruins yoke stripes though. A square shoulder stitching with straight lines would really be cool. 8/10
Ontario Reign concepts (by WinnipegJets96) *Description on concept. 8/10
Winter Classic concepts (by Justin C.) *Description on concept. COTW nom from me! 9/10

Ryan (HJC) for COTW! Congrats on making the finals!
Scott for COTW! It's a shame that that jersey was for the Riverman, though. Ten times better than the Blues' jerseys. Great Job!

Congrats to Ryan and Jesper for making the finals, i'll second Justin for COTW
Justin for COTW
Amazing.
Thanks for posting the sock template, Ryan.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve it, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm working off of images I found on Google so it's difficult to get it perfect. I'm also trying to draw a side view of Nike's pants to go along with the socks, so if anyone has any good source images of those, please email me at mmvboy@cox.net. Thanks!
Congrats on making the finals, Ryan! You have my support!
