Thursday: Lots of Wackiness

Ladies and Gents, it's time for Thursday's concepts. Today we've got a lot of interesting designs, some for classic teams, some for Swedish teams, and one from outer space. The Original-6 get a makeover, the Devils get revamped and the Canucks go back to black.

Just a heads up, we've got three things for you guys to vote for; the COTW, COTY for the month of September and the finale of the Whalers redesign competition. Get your votes in guys.

COTW Oct 1-7 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)
September-COTY vote (ends Saturday @ 11:59pm EST)
Whalers Comp Top 5 vote (ends Saturday @ 11:59pm EST)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phoenix Coyotes concept (by Mike S.)
With this concept, Mike has made black a more prevalent color in Phoenix's identity. If this look was a little more consistent, this concept would be more tolerable. The bottom hem doesn't really work for me, and the arm stripes are a little too much for me. Plus the wordmark isn't strong enough for a primary jersey logo. (5/10)

New Jersey Devils concept (by Stephen T.)
Speaking of going black, Stephen goes black for the Devils. The biggest thing that stands out for me is the lack of color variety. In the primary logo you have red-black-white-green. The jerseys only really feature black and red, and I do not understand the inclusion of green. It's not featured in the jersey design and you can hardly see the green outline on the numbers and letters. (5/10)

Original 6 concept (by Kyle C.)
As you may remember, Stephen tackled this very same idea back in September, Kyle takes on the challenge of redesigning the Original 6. Overall, all of this are very "cookie-cutter" with a rehash of the same basic. There isn't much variety. The saving grace of this group of concepts is Chicago, which I really like. Although its template is overused today, the design in general is fairly clever. (6/10)

Albuquerque Aliens concept (by STL Snake)
STL Snake brings us a fantasy concept for the "Albuquerque Aliens" with a fairly simple logo. While it may not be strong enough for a hockey logo, the jersey designs are fairly good. I would like to see some more black for the white jersey, but the alternate jersey is pretty cool. It breaks away from the monochromatic look of the primary jerseys and adds some nice variety. (7/10)

Färjestad BK concept (by Jesper W.)
Something we don't get too often are Elitserien concepts (Swedish Elite League) and Jesper brings us a Färjestad BK concept, a storied franchise with a great look. I really like this look. It's very classic, fitting for this franchise. (8/10)

Frölunda Indians concept (by Jesper W.)
Frölunda, one of the more known teams of the Elitserien, gets a makeover as well. I'll admit, I like their current look more than this, as this concept seems more like a step backwards, but this is still pretty decent. It's a solid look and that is cohesive. (7/10)

Vancouver Canucks concept (by WinnipegJets96)
The black is back for Vancouver. Many people are divided over whether this era of Canucks history was their best or worst looking. Jets96 gives us a nice design inspired by Vancouver's look of the 80s and it works pretty well. It's not over-gaudy by any means, but it's still unique and incomparable to any other look of the NHL. (8/10)

Glad you like my Aliens jerseys Ryan! In case some of you didn't know, the 3rd jersey is supposed to mimic the New Mexico flag.

I don't write the posts during the week.

I was wondering if maybe some things had changed around here. Are you still even taking the emails with the concepts or is someone else doing that too? Thought maybe that was why I hadn't heard back from you.

Most emails aren't getting responses, as it says on the side of the page. No time anymore. I'm a new dad.
