Thursday: Off Day

Hello again everyone!

Since my version of the Outsider's Perspective series ended last week, and there's nothing to report about, I'll give you guys a bit of an off day for an intro to read.

But, I do have another challenge for you guys. Go figure, I thought of this Thursday night after my post was already up for a while, but my challenge is to figure out how to use both Pittsburgh Gold and Vegas Gold on one uniform for the Penguins. My only stipulation is that they're both prominent enough so you can easily notice that they're both there, but in the end I can't control you so do whatever you want, that's just my preference.

Voting this week consists of the COTW as always, the vote for the best concept of the second quarter of the year, and for the semi finals of the HJC Open. Go leave a vote if you're bored. Or if you aren't bored. Just go vote!
HJC Open Semi-Final vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
2nd Quarter Vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
COTW July 8-14 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)

--------------------------------------------------------------

Agawin U. - Toronto Maple Leafs
+Simple design, the best choice for the Leafs, would have been a solid choice to go with for their redesign, despite being similar to Tampa.
-Not very creative, but I'm not sure what the purpose of this concept is either.
-The execution is where this concept really is brought down.
     -The logo is too small
-The numbers are way too big, and the name is also a tad big. They could both use some breathing room.
-The TV numbers should be split, one on each arm, on the front and back. The current positioning would put them on the front of a player's arm, not the side.
+You did stop the vertical stitching at the hem stripes though, good job there.
Overall: 5/10, the execution will get better with practice, just keep it up and you'll be fine!

Bradley D. - Hershey Bears
+Brown isn't a color seen often, so I like that you kept it.
+Hard to go wrong with simple stripes.
-Hard to go right with standalone piping though. I'd lose it.
+The typeface fits well here.
-I'd have more of the lightest brown color on these jerseys, especially the mainly brown one. The middle brown doesn't stand out enough.
Overall: 7.5/10

+I really like the vintage look of this one. The striping looks great, and even better in one color like you have it.
-Since the colors are so close already, why not make the majority of the jersey in that lightest brown color? If not, change that color in the logo to match the jersey's color.
-That shoulder patch might make a good primary logo for a vintage look like this, considering it's simplicity.
-Thicker numbers without an outline would also give it a more vintage look.
-The shoulder yoke shouldn't go down so low, it cramps the TV numbers.
+The extra equipment being the same as the regular set is a great choice, especially for an AHL team.
-For both of your concepts today, the color doesn't fill in completely, and you can still see some white. on the edges. Except for the white jersey, because that's already white.
Overall: 8/10

Jimmy T. - Buffalo Sabres
+Another well executed, vintage looking fauxback.
+Nice callback to their previous alternate, while changing things up.
-I'd add another set of the stripes to the hem. It's a tad plain as it is, compared to the arms.
+The yoke fits the look perfectly.
+I like having numbers under the wordmark, and the numbers look great being one solid color.
-Unless it's just to add to the vintage look, the helmet should have numbers.
Overall: 8/10

Lucas D. - Montréal Canadiens
I'm not sure exactly what this concept is supposed to be. Baseball crossover? Celebrating Montréal's sports teams? I guess these because of the logo, a recolored Expos logo. Clarification would be appreciated.
+A mainly blue jersey for the Habs is an odd sight, but one I wouldn't mind.
+The double blue looks nice on this concept, especially with red and white in the mix too.
-The stripes would look better if they were bolder though.
-The red outline on the number is barely noticeable.
-Echoing Steven from Tuesday, the stitching for the hem stripes begins to look a bit like it's actually a stripe. If those are actually small, blue stripes, ignore this.
-This one's a bit strange...but when you recolor the Expos logo like that it begins to look a bit phallic. Especially for someone who may not make the Expos connection, that could be bad.
Overall: 8/10

Lucas D. - Vancouver Canucks
+Green looks great as the main jersey color for the Nucks. It makes the blue really pop.
+This one has the look of a modern vintage jersey. It fits well with the logo.
-If there are thin, gray stripes in between the blue and white stripes, they're pretty pointless honestly. Very hard to see.
-Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the arm and hem stripes should be the same thickness.
-Adding the V in the arm stripes would be a nice touch, but it's not bad without it.
Overall: 8.5/10 and my COTW Nomination

Ryan H. - Minnesota North Stars
~Unless that's just a strange way of introducing that this is a concept, I'm not sure what you're "what if..." is referencing.
+That shade of green looks amazing, and the amount of white in the concept also looks nice.
-I'd like to see just a tad more yellow though.
-I think the logo would look better as just the N star, sans roundel.
-The shoulder patch seems unnecessary and repetitive.
-Not a fan of the Adidas stripes, but then again I doubt you are.
+The pattern overall is a solid, and a nice, subtle nod to their history.
Overall: 8/10

Tyler M. - Los Angeles Kings
+Gray as the primary is an interesting choice. Definitely unique.
-A gray yoke would be better for the white jersey, paired with the black pants there would be too much black.
+Good logo choice. That logo is much better as a primary, and the LA monogram works great on the shoulder.
+I really like that typeface.
-I think they would both be better with either a thicker outline, or no outline though. They're also very pixelated.
-I would lighten the gray in the background of the concepts. Keep it noticeable, but not enough that it stands out too much.
+Overall it's a nice way to show their history, while introducing some new ideas.
Overall: 7.5/10

--------------------------------------------------------------

And that's a wrap for today. A good few COTW worthy concepts today, so take a pick and nominate one! I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all again next week.
