Tuesday: A Little Off the Subject
Hi everybody. Yes, I'm going to talk about another sport on this blog for a certain reason. The sport I'm talking about is the disc sport of Ultimate. Known to many as a sport played on college campuses (I played on Youngstown State's Ultimate Club Team for 3 years) has become a full fledged pro sport with 2 leagues, the American Ultimate Disc League and Major League Ultimate, being the two prominent in North America.
Now, you may ask "Why are you talking about some sport that has nothing in relation to hockey?" Well, that's because I'd like to get an opinion on how you feel about Ultimate teams making their jerseys look like a hockey jersey? Case in point, A proposed jersey for my final year at YSU:
To clarify, we were Aperture Ultimate. We didn't use this design but it was one of many hockey styles that were up for vote. So what do you guys think? Does it work for an Ultimate team to go with a hockey style or should it be for hockey only?
It's time to do you civic duty to HJC by voting. We have the second quarter vote for COTW, the usual COTW, and the voting for the HJC Open Semi-Finals.
Onto the Concepts!
Negatives: You have a black outline around the arm striping as compared to the hem stripes and, while I assume it wasn't intentional, your concept would look much better without it. Also, add a Maple Leaf somewhere on this.
Overall: 8/10
Positives: Sorry to put them as one but it's a set and the descriptions would be the same. This set gives me a early 90's Senators feel with the 67's unique multi-stripe design set to a minimum on the sleeves. It's a perfect mix of the 67's design and a simple but effective jersey.
Negatives: What you have going on with the collar is really strange.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE!
Negatives: You forgot to Recolor the "REEBOK" logo on the back. Also, the modern style numbers aren't working with this design. A traditional block would look a lot better. Finally, you can go without that white horizontal stripe on the back of the jersey.
Overall: 7/10
Negatives: You forgot to color in the "REEBOK" logo on the back of both jerseys, that numbering still doesn't work, and move the gems up slightly.
Overall: 7.5/10
Negatives: It would be nice to see a little bit more red and silver than just on the logo and two little lines on the striping. Maybe put an outline on the numbers and a multicolored collar?
Overall: 8/10
Negatives: The logo looks kind of big.
Overall: 8.75/10
Negatives: Those TV numbers on the Rangers' jersey look huge.
Overall: 8.5/10
Well that's all I have for you guys today. I hope you liked that I changed it up a bit from the usual. Sorry Phil but I have no shenanigans for you this week. I'll come up with something next week. Have a good week everybody and I'll see you guys this time next week.

Lucas Daitchman- Toronto Maple Leafs
Positives: The arm striping is very interesting and unique but it still gives the jersey a throwback feel. Also, the simple "T" works well on this designNegatives: You have a black outline around the arm striping as compared to the hem stripes and, while I assume it wasn't intentional, your concept would look much better without it. Overall: 8/10
Ryan Christensen-Ottawa 67's
Positives: Sorry to put them as one but it's a set and the descriptions would be the same. This set gives me a early 90's Senators feel with the 67's unique multi-stripe design set to a minimum on the sleeves. It's a perfect mix of the 67's design and a simple but effective jersey.
Negatives: What you have going on with the collar is really strange.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE!
Tyler Meli-Skewis- Quebec Nordiques Alternate
Positives: This is a really neat idea that you are playing off the Quebec Flag. It doesn't look that busy on the front while being interesting at the same time.Negatives: You forgot to Recolor the "REEBOK" logo on the back. Also, the modern style numbers aren't working with this design. A traditional block would look a lot better. Finally, you can go without that white horizontal stripe on the back of the jersey.
Overall: 7/10
Tyler Meli-Skewis- Quebec Nordiques Primary
Positives: It's nice to see that you didn't stray too far from the original design but gave it a more updates look. Putting a single stripe on the sleeves look good. Also, the Red Fleur De Lis on both shoulders looks really good. Negatives: You forgot to color in the "REEBOK" logo on the back of both jerseys, that numbering still doesn't work, and move the gems up slightly.
Overall: 7.5/10
Zeke Goldsmith- Colorado Avalanche
Positives: Going off of the old 90's design was a good choice on this, as well as using the alternate logo on the front. The reason that this works out is mainly because that you kept it simple but added a unique striping feature to it that makes it stand out.Negatives: It would be nice to see a little bit more red and silver than just on the logo and two little lines on the striping. Maybe put an outline on the numbers and a multicolored collar?
Overall: 8/10
Zeke Goldsmith- Minnesota Wild
Positives: That thick striping really works well on this jersey. It really shows that red well, yet gives the Vintage White a prominent presence.Negatives: The logo looks kind of big.
Overall: 8.75/10
Zeke Goldsmith- Rangers Vs Bruins
Positives: For the Rangers Jersey, I like how you just have the "RANGERS" text in plain white and added the vintage logos the shoulders. As for the Bruins jersey, the squared yoke and simple striping give the jersey a throwback look while it being something completely new.Negatives: Those TV numbers on the Rangers' jersey look huge.
Overall: 8.5/10

I put an outline because that's stitching.
I thought that was the reasoning. It's a really cool design but the solid black gives it the look of an outline rather than stitching. By the way, I've been asking about that jersey template for a while now. Just saying.
@Steven: Ask Josiah. He's the one that sent it to me...
#EverythingUltimate and NO it does not work.
But seriously look up Brodie Smith on YouTube. He. Is. A. God.
