Monday: Seeing With Your Own Two (or Three) Eyes
Welcome to the HJC Monday post, you know, the one with Jets96!
After seeing how mediocre this year's Winter Classic jerseys are, I got to thinking about how they could improve, and I remembered how mediocre I thought the 2015 Chicago jerseys were...well truth be told, nearly 2 years later, I think they're amazing. Now to be fair it was my first (and so far only) Blackhawks jersey and I understand the argument that people who own that jersey, the 2016 SS jerseys and/or the regular away jersey may get tired of the same jersey done 4 ways...but my thoughts on the jersey changed once I actually saw it in person.
It wasn't the first jersey I've changed opinions on, so let's go through some of them.
Current Arizona set
When the jersey first came out and I saw the blocky arms I thought it was a downgrade. I liked the colour placement but the lack of a hem stripe and the identical arm patterns on both jerseys dragged it down. Most of all I was let down by the lack of a Kachina pattern on the jersey outside of the inner collar (which the preview images led on would be there). I saw the maroon jersey in a store and I was pretty blown away at how nice the colour balancing looked in person. It did improve upon the original in that way. On top of this the new numbers are much nicer because of the outlines of them, which like Vancouver, Arizona/Phoenix lacked for so long and hurt them, particularly since their logo contained black and the rest of the jersey didn't.
Current Colorado Avalanche Alternate
The graphical representations of this jersey don't really do it justice. The maroon arms in reality don't stand out as much as they do, and the colours look much more balanced, particularly based on how large the primary logo actually is. Yes, it is absolutely massive. To be honest I think this is going to be a jersey that will be like the Blues alternate, in that it is the best alternate in the NHL and will be until a new trend begins. The yoke looks absolutely fantastic, and I'm surprised no other teams are using this style.
Flyers pre-edge black jersey
To be fair, the last time this jersey was worn I was 11 so my memory of it was fuzzy at best, but I never really liked this jersey. Of course it didn't match their away as well as the Lindros era orange jerseys and I felt there was too much white, but after finally finding one of these jerseys in reality, I have to say it looks pretty good. In person the orange on this jersey is a lot more vibrant, and the logo is much larger on much of the fan jerseys I've seen.
Which jerseys were you skeptical of until you saw them in person or owned one? Were there any jerseys that once you saw them in reality you were disappointed by?
The Washington Capitals Redesign Competition is well underway, let's look at some entries that have come in since last post! Entries are due Friday at Noon EST.

Great stuff! Remember to read ALL the rules and hopefully we have another close contest!
COTW has reset for the week as well as the first of the 4th Quarter (whatever that is? This is hockey!) monthly votes. So get those two votes in!
We only have two..yes two concepts for today's post. The concept well is drying up so if you have some concepts you've debated sending in, you should! We need concepts to review!
Everett Silvertips Concepts (By: Brooks F.)
+ Brooks does an excellent job of introducing that shade of brown that we really haven't seen in this quantity on a jersey...ever, and it makes the mountain stripes the team is known so well for stand out more
+ Good colour balancing, yes on both home and away jerseys even though the stripes are identical
+ Good logo choices!
+ I really like the idea with the alternate, a fauxback jersey that works like the 1992 Blackhawks jersey that works in the contemporary
+ Good execution
- I think it's always tough in deciding gear colour for striped jerseys like the alternate, but I usually prefer the darker coloured gear, so I would have got with green pants and green helmet
- I think the alternate would look better with collar laces, or even inverted laces
Rating: 9.25/10
Detroit Red Wings Concepts (By: Lucas D.)
+ People really seemed to like the idea of the Red Wings adopting a version of the Detroit Cougars D logo and I have to say that Lucas has made last year's SS jerseys much more refined and tolerable
+ While I have to say that alternate is awfully similar to the Arenas jersey leaked earlier this season with the Leafs, it still looks fantastic
+ Things are very simple, but not too simple and I can still tell these are Red Wings jerseys
+ Great execution
- I would have preferred the 15 SS flying D to the 09/14 Cougars D
- The home and road need the Red Wing as a shoulder patch
- Would like to see the gear or at least the pants & socks to get an idea of how this would look as a whole.
Rating: 8.75/10

Man, only two concepts today? COTW to Lucas D.
Pretty much all the WCoH jerseys grew on me, especially the Team North America one. I started out thinking "What the hell is this?" and I thought it was way too modern. But as the tournament went on, I started to realize that they were actually really cool looking. The electrifying play style of Team NA probably didn't hurt, either.
On another note, does anyone know where I can download some fonts? Fonts By Conrad sadly was taken down, and the current fonts I have are outdated. Thanks!
