Saturday: Just(W)in

Welcome to another Saturday post. Here we go!

The winner of the COTW vote for October 21-27 was Justin N's nicely detailed Arizona Coyotes concept!

I was happy to see that Justin's hard work paid off this week. My favourite part of the whole concept is the sharp yellow jersey. It's perfect as an alternate. The brown pants across the whole set are pretty sweet too.

The new COTW nominees for Ocotober 28 - November 3 have been listed on the side of the page. If you can't see the poll then log into a Google account and it will appear. Votes will be counted up until Friday at noon. You can click the link the in poll to see the concepts.

The winner of the Calgary Flames ReDesign was Justin N!

Justin's concept moves into this week's COTW vote with the win. Look at those vote totals. It was an amazingly close vote. Four different concepts could have won this competition. It's interesting to note how people seem to be winning in blocks. Avi started it off a few weeks ago, and here we have Justin with two wins on this post alone.

There will be no new competition this week. I am preparing the Saturday exclusive competition, The Season. For those that are not in The Season, there should be a new competition announced by this time next week.

-------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of The Season, the schedule is set! Click the S button on the side of the page. That will get you to The Season page and you can check out the divisions and the schedule. The deadline to get your concepts in is Friday before the evening (on the east coast).

For The Season the home team wears a dark jersey at home and a light jersey on the road. If you finish first or second in your division you make the playoffs. 2nd place will be the road team versus the first place team. You will need to submit a new concept for the playoffs, so I would suggest having one at the ready. Three pools will give us three First Round playoff match-ups and three teams advancing to the Second Round. We'll need tie breakers here (see The Season page) as the teams will be seeded 1-2-3 based on Regular Season performance. 3rd seed will be the road team against the 2nd seed with the winner advancing to the Final Round as the road team against the 1st seed. Got it?

Week 1 of the Regular Season gets underway next Saturday!

The NHL Shop online leaked their own Winter Classic sweaters...

Overall I give these a 6.9 out of 10.

Chicago hasn't changed much from their 2015 offering. Just slight logo changes and hem stripes that go into a full black hem. I really thought this was a great chance to come out with a more creative fauxback. Perhaps an interpretation of a white version of their 1940's black jersey.

As for the Blues, they went with a near exact version of the sweater they wore when they first hit the ice in 1967. The logo is the big change here, as it has been angled slightly for this jersey. I would have chosen the unused original Blues jersey, but it's hard to complain about this one. I'm not a huge fan, but it's not terrible.

To me this is an uninspired jersey match-up. Maybe the outdoor games just don't appeal to me anymore? Maybe at 33 I'm just too old to enjoy new sweaters? I'm way out of the coveted 18-25 demographic now. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these jerseys, plus it's the topic of the Weekly Poll.

-------------------------------------------------------

Last week's poll asked what's your hockey jersey number.

Photo: ESPN
The most popular number was 13. I really was expecting #9, or #19, or #87. My number is #16. I also noted that HJC readers seem to be honouring the league wide #99 retirement.

This week's poll is asking what you think of the leaked Winter Classic jerseys. Pretty simple. The results will be revealed next week.

I love those 1967 unused Blues jerseys, those would be a 12/10

The leaked jerseys look like a concept I did just days before.

Should we have equipment on our jerseys?

The Winter Classic jerseys are so disappointing. St. Louis is about what I was expecting, but the vintage white doesn't work with those jerseys. The colors don't mesh well and they simply aren't old enough jerseys. The NOB also isn't white which just brings it down that much more. Chicago's is basically the exact same as when they played Washington except for a different logo and the hem. I was really hoping they'd just go STL in white and CHI in red that way Chicago could go with a red version of their previous WC jersey and STL could go with the white version of their original jersey. Even if they didn't do that they could have just done black and white Blackhawks and the early prototypes Blues and that would have also been fine.

My Number is 91. It's 19 in reverse, and has been worn by the likes of Tavares, Seguin, Tarasenko, Stamkos, and Hall of Famer Sergei Fedorov.
