Thursday: Giving Thanks
Hello everyone, welcome back, and for the fellow Americans reading this, happy Thanksgiving!
Last year on my Thanksgiving post I completely forgot I had a post to write so I wrote it on my phone at like 8 at night...let's not have that happen again.
Keeping the theme of Thanksgiving..here's a few hockey design related things to be thankful for...and one thing not to be thankful for...which is:
The

"I'm hoping their logo doesn't look rushed..."
In my opinion this logo just looks amateur. It's flat, bland, and boring. There are some very odd shapes and lines in some places: The shield outline next to the helmet on the left of it, the bottom right gray shape comes to weird points at the top and bottom, as does the one that comes into the nose area. (I hope that all made sense)
And when you look at it next to the rest of the league, it just looks out of place and, well, amateur, for lack of another word.
The only thing I think it has going for it is the "hidden" V in the helmet, I like that.
Overall, and I think the quick turnaround really hurt it. 5/10
What to be thankful for:
Vegas's other logos:
Now at least these ones are better. The secondary is an idea I've seen in concepts many times, but it's a great idea and executed well. Unlike others I don't mind the red, I think it adds something unique to their color scheme. And the wordmark, while not too flashy, look good for a hockey team, especially one in Vegas. It has it's flaws, but it's pretty good overall.
Both: 8.5/10
Another cool, but not as big thing, is the jerseys the Wild wore for warmups the other night.

Not much to say about these, but they look pretty cool. Wouldn't want to see something similar around full time, though.👀 These Blaze Orange warmup jerseys with camo numbers are sweet. pic.twitter.com/VyeOYWoOnK— Minnesota Wild (@mnwild) November 23, 2016
What do you think about these? Especially Vegas, I'd like to hear if any of you disagree with me and why.
----------------------------
Today you should show thanks to your favorite concepts here by leaving them a vote, COTW, Caps comp, and The Season all have votes this week. I'll stop with the Thanksgiving clichés now I'm sorry.
COTW Nov 11-17 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
Washington Capitals Top 5 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
The Season Week 2 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
----------------------------
Avi S. - Arizona Coyotes
+While I'm not a fan of the name "Color Way" (I think it sounds kind of awkward), I do really like this series of yours.
+Maroon was the better color choice to emphasize here.
+I like the logo choice.
+Good color balance, and the kachina striping looks great.
+Please just take the alternate one, make a white version, use their current logo, and make this their regular primary set, now.
-The number font looks a bit odd (just the numbers, though).
Overall: 9.5/10 and my COTW nomination
Avi S. - Edmonton Oilers
+A completely orange uniform would sure look interesting. For this purpose good choice, much more interesting than blue would be.
+The oil drops in the arms look great. A white stroke there might be better though.
+Can't go wrong with taking their alternate/throwback and adapting it a bit.
-A bit more creativity could be desired, though.
Overall: 8.5/10
DT Concepts - New York Islanders
+Is it really an Isles concept without referencing the 4 cups? The striping does look good and it's something new.
+The isolated NY makes for a good primary.
+The subtle collar detail is a nice touch.
-The numbers are way too close to the stripes.
-An outline on them could help too.
-TV numbers are way too big.
-The background on the presentation is really too prominent and distracting; make your concept the central focus of the image.
Overall: 7.5/10
DT Concepts - St. Louis Blues (50th Anniversary)
+The background on this one is a lot better.
+A decent combination of the Blues' history.
-Although this one seems to take a bit too much from the 90s as opposed to evenly drawing from every era.
+Good color balance, especially if the pants are blue.
-The numbers look really awkward, mainly the 4. I'm not so sure that would work with every number.
-The logo could go a bit higher.
Overall: 8/10
Lucas D. - New York Islanders
+Fishsticks!
+The wavy design is a great fit with the fishsticks logo, it would be harder to pull that off with their regular logo.
+I like the emphasizing of white over orange.
-The thinner orange stripes do vibrate with the blue a bit though.
+The more traditional alt is a good way of bringing something new while being a break from the more modern primary set.
+I like the font. It works surprisingly well on both of them.
Overall: 8/10
Lucas D. - St. Louis Blues
+Another nice modern and vintage combination.
-The diagonal stripes are way too thick. The numbers end up way too cramped from that too.
+Dropping red and changing the font from the original design was a good idea.
+The traditional "Winter Classic" alternate is again a nice break from the modern primaries.
-The number is a bit high on that one though, way too close to the name.
Overall: 8.5/10
Tyler K. - Remembrance Day Classic
+Both jerseys have a great, traditional look, which goes perfect with a concept for a game like this.
-Bit I can't tell who the team on top is...so that may be a problem. My only indication is that the front crest says "North Bay" so the Battalion is my guess..but I can't say for sure.
+The Canadian military imagery and the poppies are a great touch - almost a requirement for a game like this.
+The Spitfires one especially would make a great regular uniform for them, maybe without the military references though.
Overall: 9/10
That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, I'll see you all next week, and to my American readers I wish you a happy Thanksgiving!
