Wednesday: VIVA LAS VEGAS!
So the Vegas Golden Knights. Not Las Vegas, just Vegas. Just like the York Islanders and Rangers, or the Louis Blues, or the Angeles Kings or Jose Sharks. Strike one.
Here's the logo ICYMI, via the official team Twitter account:
What's with that blue-ish/grey color? Not a fan, strike two. Silhouette V? simple logo? All is forgiven! A very good branding scheme until we get to the alternate logo:
I get the idea behind this, as it's a nod to the famous Las Vegas sign, but there's no need for red at all.
Wordmark:
Not a bad look, simple, has the stars from the sign without the swords and without the red or grey. I wouldn't expect the jerseys to have red or grey outside the logos. Can't wait for them to be revealed, l expect them to come around early February, at least via leaks, so stay tuned.

The Season continues to week 2, as San Jose, Crowsnest Pass, Colorado, Amur, Anaheim, Boston, Carolina, New York and Ottawa all get wins. Expect Washington to head into Week 3 0-2 as the team cleans house and starts fresh (new artist replacing the old, who didn't submit concepts in time). Will they recover the early hole and finish the group stage strong? Which teams will keep their form? Find out Saturday! Also vote for them because you decide this.
Don't forget to vote for the Capitals Comp and COTW as usual. And to make sure you don't forget, here are some....
REMINDERS:
COTW Nov 11-17 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)
Washington Capitals Top 5 vote (ends Friday @ noon Eastern)

ON TO THE CONCEPTS!
Avi S: New Jersey Devils Concept
I've been waiting for someone to try this logo in some form, and by ditching the circle and replacing green with black, it makes this logo even better as an alternate. The only problem here is that I've always thought that this classic Devils striping pattern was ugly. I get the idea of having two stripes in a white middle section on the sleeves, but because of how thin the striping is, plus comparing it to the current Devils' look, it looks like the normal striping pattern plus one unneccessary white stripe on the top. Doesn't work for me. Black numbers work here because of how much brighter this red is compared to the normal set. The Color Way/Color Rush set looks better because of the lack of a black yoke and the shade of red used.

Based on the Winter classic jerseys, but better. Lighter red, more blue, no yoke striping. The pants look better on the alternate than the Color Way set. Not a big fan of the separated stripes, but I get the idea behind it. It's a nice alternate though. No major complaints.

DT Concepts: Washington Capitals Concept
Outlines. Desperately need outlines. Logo outlines on the red, number outlines on both. These jerseys remind me of the late 90s-early 00s Islanders jerseys, which is a good look (yes I'm biased) but I think there could be a much better look to fit this team specifically. Maybe a shoulder patch? Different yoke color? Definitely would go with a white yoke on the red jersey.

I've always wanted to see good designs where the yokes come halfway down the sleeves and envelop the area the TV numbers are usually placed. I t usually looks good, but it's not the case on the Devils red jersey here. IT's mainly an issue of color balance. There isn't enough white on that jersey. For that matter, the white jersey could use just a little more black. Alternate is nothing we haven't seen before (doesn't mean I like it any better).

Lucas D: Washington Capitals Concept
When I was looking for design inspiration for the Capitals competition we are currently in the voting phase for, I thought I would do something like this. Turns out Lucas beat me to it, so I went back to the drawing board and came up with something that looked to much like the Confederate flag, so that was the end of that. The reason I wanted a pattern like this is because by matching the W-Eagle logo (which should be a primary logo but that's an argument for another day). With this, it also gives the arms a better wing effect than Russia's 2014 Olympic jerseys. The minimal hem rounds out the jersey better than having no hem. Absolutely brilliant. Would love to see how the equipment rounds out the jersey.

Tyler K: Norfolk Admirals (ECHL) Concept
The Admirals have a bit of a mess with their uniforms, so they are scrapped and replaced with a quality Navy-esque color scheme, appropriate for them. Love the striping. Absolutely perfect to continue the Navy theme. Good call on the logo redesign. The numbering is perfect, though the nameplate is too large. I LOVE that alternate. The gold helmet isn't my preferred choice but that doesn't mean that it doesn't work. Reebok logos on the gloves are outdated, never mind colored incorrectly according to that branding.

I only have two problems with this: First up that logo is too small, especially without the circle behind it. The circle works on the current devils logo because it helps give the logo definition, whereas the logo we saw on the first Devils concept reviewed today were able to get away without it. I also think to go with the rest of the jersey, it could use an added outline, as can the numbers. Speaking of which, they look too crowded up at the top, so space them out from the yoke and from each other. I like the striping illusion I keep on mentioning. It's a simple but decent look in this case.

While we all have some issues with details of the Knights brand, especially dropping Las for no reason, overall this is a dynamite job that they hit out of the park. I'll give it 8.5/10. Could be better, but for sure NHL worthy.
Also, Tyler K's Norfolk for COTW.
Am I the only one here who thinks that the main logo looks like a shoulder patch? Plus a leak on puck daily just before the unveiling had the logo stitched on some black fabric, and unless they're using 1/2in. wide strands, the logo looks shoulder-patch-sized. Does that mean a diagonal wordmark? Overall,
Main: 7.5/10
Alternative: 7/10
Wordmark: 9/10
Overall: 7.5/10
GO JACKETS!!! GO MONSTERS!!! GO BUCKS!!!
Welcome (Las) Vegas Golden Knights to the NHL! While the unveiling ceremony was a Knight-mare, the logo set isn't too bad. I'm very excited to see what they look like on the uniform, which according to the Golden Knight's Twitter, will be unveiled in Summer 2017. So plenty of time for everyone to make concepts for them. I have a feeling that they'll go with grey as the base color to look like knight's armor, but they are the Golden Knights, so who really knows?
I second Lucas D for COTW
@Burkus: That was on a hat.
Burkus, while I can see that thought, and somewhat agree with it, without the shield, the helmet looks incomplete without the shield. BTW the logo stitched there in that leak I also saw was on a hat, hence why it looked shoulder patch sized.
I hate how incredibly flat this logo looks. From the ugly blue and reds accents, to the basic "photoshop-101" level white bevel on the left side, this logo is horrendous. I can't wait for 5 years down the road when they have to rebrand. I've seen nothing but terrible feedback from this and it shocks me that they didn't try and include some fan vote for the name or logo.
As a designer and fan of hockey jerseys/ logos.. this bums me out so hard.
I'm ok with dropping "Las" if it prevents people from saying "The Las Vegas Golden Knights." You'd be essentially saying "The The Vegas Golden Knights. That's got to be awkward for native Spanish speaking people.
I don't think that it was a hat because it didn't have the vertical stitching in the background and wasn't round-ish...
Controversy! Yay!
GO JACKETS!!! GO MONSTERS!!! GO BUCKS!!!
As opposed to "The The Angeles Kings" though Caz?
Why'd they drop the Las? It's not the same around the league. Jersey Devils? York Rangers? Jose Sharks? York Islanders? Angeles Kings? Tampa Lightning? Carolina Hurricanes? Oh, wait...
Am I the only one who thinks they did the right thing by dropping the Las. I don't know anyone who says I'm going to or went Las Vegas. Everyone even the the people that live there call it Vegas. "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" "Vegas baby".
Hardly anyone says the Las Angeles Kings either they say the L.A. Kings. Vegas Golden Knights sounds better than Las Vegas Golden Knights anyway.
That's exactly my point, Phil. "The the Angeles Kings" is awkward, but LA can't change now. Vegas has the chance to get it right from the beginning. Thankfully they have.
