Monday: Not Thursday
Hello everyone, welcome to today's post, and unfortunately, no it is not Thursday, it is Monday.
As you may or may not have noticed last week, I did not write my normal Thursday post. Due to different time constraints in college, I may be unofficially switching days for a week or so until I find a better fit, or just realize that Thursday works just as well as any other day. This doesn't matter much to you, though, because all you have to do is sit back, read some words, and enjoy the posts, so enjoy!
----------------
As always, we have the COTW vote this week, and in addition to that we have the entry phase of the arena logo competition just starting up. For those of you who are logo designers, this should be your time to shine, and for those of you who aren't, this is your excuse to try something new. You have two weeks to get these entries in, so use that time wisely to refine and perfect your entries.
Arena entries:
Ben S.
----------------
Adam G. - Washington Capitals

-Using the D.C. flag as striping is by no means an original idea, and one that I have also used myself.
+That being said, I don't think it's a bad idea at all. The placement of the stars above the arm stripes is probably the best way to go about it.
+Glad you used the weagle instead of the wordmark.
-I can tell that this design is intentionally monochrome, but I think it would really benefit by adding some blue.
-The captain's C looks a tad small, and should be repositioned a bit. It's really conflicting with the logo placement, and bumps the logo down lower than it should be.
Overall: 7.75/10
Anthony C. - Brampton Batallion
+Their colors are perfect for what their identity is based around, so I'm glad you kept that intact.
+The striping is a solid design. Nothing to complain about.
-Nothing that really stands out about it either, though.
+It does balance the colors much better than their current set does, though.
+The black equipment breaks up the green very well.
Overall: 7.5/10
Anthony C. - Niagara Ice Dogs
+I'm not a big fan of black uniforms, but I think this one has enough color to work.
+A more original pattern like this works better than Buffaslug copies or Blackhawks copies.
+The red pants do a great job of making sure the uniform doesn't end up too black and too bland, and provides a nice contrast to the rest of the uniform.
+Similarly, I think going with black gloves and helmet, instead of red, was also the right choice.
-I'm not sure on this one, but I think white numbers could have worked better to both increase contrast and improve color balance.
Overall: 8.5/10
Joe D. - Florida Panthers
+While I have no problem with the Panthers' current uniforms (aside from the cut off chest stripe) I'm well aware that many think that the Panthers could use some more blue. This is a good way to satisfy that.
+I think the striping pattern used is a good way of keeping the design based in traditional roots, yet modern at the same time.
+Glad to see that you kept the Panthers' new font.
-The TV numbers look a tad big.
+I think demoting gold to tertiary status is a good move with the promotion of blue.
-I'd like to see it just a tad more prominent, though. Maybe just thicken the gold stripes a bit.
Overall: 8/10
Lucas D. - Toronto Maple Leafs
+That logo inspiration is sure interesting.
-In general I don't think it works for being used more than a few times, but I think it could work for a one-off.
-The logo on the jersey is also very rough and pixelated. It could use some cleaning up.
+I like the basic idea you have and are going for here, but...
-If you were going for a fauxback design, I'm not sure a chest stripe really fits for Toronto. If you used this pattern on the hem, maybe, but a chest stripe looks more like a modern design for Toronto.
-The numbers could also use a slightly thicker outline, they almost start to blend this way.
-I would make the pentagon on the collar white. Having it colored like that begins to remind me of a polo collar.
Overall: 7.5/10
T.C. Moore - Oakland University
+I like the striping mimicking the points in the OU logo, whether you added those details to the logo or not.
+Gold is a unique color to use as the primary, and the colors are balanced well on the gold jersey especially.
-I think the white jersey could use more black, which is an issue that will be addressed in my next point...
-I think the white stripes would look better a tad thicker, and same goes for the black ones on the white jersey.
-The gold helmet is a bold move...I think I'd have to see it in action to judge. A college team does have more leeway for crazy uniform choices, though.
Overall: 8/10
T.C. Moore - University of Missouri
+It's really quite interesting how the exact same pattern on both jerseys can really give off a different look. It's consistently inconsistent.
+This goes for the previous concept too, but I'm glad you chose to use an actual logo, instead of the often-used college design of an arched script.
+I like how much color you've used on these designs.
-I think the white jersey could use a bit more yellow to balance out the black pants. Maybe keep the cuffs yellow.
+The yellow helmet is again a bold decision, but based on the Predators, and the Penguins' Stadium Series uniform, I can more confidently say that this one will work.
Overall: 8.5/10 and my COTW nomination

That's all for today's post! I hope you enjoyed the post, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all again next week...or this week...I'm honestly not sure yet.
