Saturday: Weekly Rundown (Sept 1-7)
The winner of the COTW vote for August 25-31 was Jordan's Ottawa Senators concept.
This is Jordan's 4th COTW win of the year. It was also the final vote for the month of August, so Jordan's concept immediately moves into the August vote.
The winner of the Toledo Walleye ReDesign was Brooks F!
Brooks took this one late, as I was in the lead up until at least Wednesday night. With the win this concept moves into the next COTW vote. It should have been in this week's vote but I messed up and forgot to put it in there.
The entrants for the COTW-August vote have been listed in the red poll on the side of the page. You will be able to place a vote up until the deadline of Friday at noon Eastern time. Good luck to everyone entered.
The new COTW nominees for September 1-7 have also been listed. You can see them in the black poll and you also have until Friday at noon Eastern to place your vote.
It's time to begin a new HJC Competition! This one is the Arena Logo Competition. We haven't done a logo comp in a while and I thought now would be a good time. You can go to the COMPETITION tab to get all of the details, or simply click the banner at the top of the page. You have two weeks to create your logo. Have fun with this one!
As TC discussed yesterday, we saw the 2018 Winter Classic logo and some marks for the Rangers and Sabres.
I love the event logo. It gets the two ideas across very well, those being the 10th anniversary of the game and that it's in New York. Of course the idea of Buffalo being the home team in Citi Field is ridiculous, but we have to move on.
I'm interested to see what we get from the Rangers. My guess would be something based heavily on this jersey, but utilizing the NY shield logo we saw.
I think Buffalo will give us a yellow jersey. I will guess that the full Buffalo logo with SABRES inside will be used on the helmets or pants and will also appear on the coaches' jackets. The font used in that logo closely matches the font used for the 40th anniversary script logo. That font was based on the bottle cap logo of the AHL's Buffalo Bisons. So I would guess that the Sabres again will take inspiration from the Bisons for their Winter Classic jerseys. I showed this on Facebook and Twitter to mostly negative reviews.
NHL18 tweeted this week that the Tutorial portion of the game will be in conjunction with Hockey Canada. For us jersey nerds (or jerds...no, that doesn't work) this means that actual Team Canada jerseys will be in the game!
At this point it seems that EA only has a deal in place with Hockey Canada and not any other international bodies. No word on if the World Cup jerseys will be returning this year or if the game will go back to the terrible generic jerseys they've always used.

All the jerseys are the same generic ones except for Canada and Germany, who have jerseys that are like their nike ones but not the same
