Sunday: A Somber Day for Hockey

Hello friends. Welcome back to HJC. I've decided today that I'm not going to do my usual positive and negative style writing, but instead use the terms 1st line and 2nd line so let me know what you think.

We're gonna jump right into the concepts today so remember to vote for the COTW, COTW-March, and voting for the colour swatch competition.

COTW-March vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
COTW March 30 - April 5 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
Colour Swatch vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)

Also this Tuesday, 10pm EST we are doing the first every HJC Live Podcast to kick off the NHL Playoffs. It will be a preview show where we'll be giving predictions, analysis and such of every match up, and more! So be sure to circle your hypothetical calendar.

Let's get to it!

Ben S- New York Rangers
1st Line: It was a good call to keep the diagonal script on the jersey. For some odd reason, the rangers have only ever been able to pull off a logo on the front of the jersey during their lady liberty era. Also, I like the use of blue in the yoke and pants. It really tones down on the overabundance of red.
2nd Line:  The modified 2018 Winter Classic shield logo on the helmet is a good choice but it does look a little big on the helmet. The blue cuffs on the jersey works well on the sleeves. Overall this design is simple and fits the profile for a New York Rangers jersey.
Overall: 7/10

Ben S- Ottawa Senators
1st Line: The side profile logo, while slightly large on the front of the jersey, is a logo that is underused by the Sens and would make a perfect logo for an alternate jersey. Also, the use of gold on the jersey is a very nice touch as well.
2nd Line: The Centurion style striping on the hem is a nice touch but it's quite confusing at the top of the sleeves. Also, the jersey is fine with the amount of red and white it has now but it wouldn't hurt to had more into the collar.
Overall: 7.5/10

Lucas D- Edmonton Oilers
1st Line: Given that the Oilers like to stick to traditional style striping (we don't speak about there first Edge set) this design has a nice modern flair to it. While I'm not usually a fan of orange and white, this works really well with the shade of Orange and the navy accents work really well with it.
2nd Line: The accent stripe on the yoke is a nice touch, but it looks really thick on the realistic mockups. Other than that I think you did a great job.
Overall: 8.75/10

That's all I have for you guys this week. Before you go I'd like to make a statement regarding the recent tragedy that occurred Saturday.

As much of the AP has already covered, the Humboldt Broncos Jr hockey club of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League were involved in a terrible crash with a semi trailer that took the lives of 15 players and personnel on the bus, including the team's Captain and Head Coach. It's a loss that strikes deep not only among coaches and players in the hockey community, but has an affect on everyone that loves the game. I can't begin to imagine what those families are going though but I give my condolences to them.

Please enjoy the rest of your week and I look forward to seeing you guys next Sunday!

2nd Lucas for COTW. That’s a really bold look for the Oilers!
