Thursday: The Finals Countdown

Happy Thursday, Ladies and Gents.

Finals week just finished up for me at university with my last exam letting out just an hour and a half before this post went live, so I'm gonna keep it short and get packing. That being said, I'm very much looking forward to the extra free time that comes with summer and with that more time to devote to designing and other HJC activities.

REMINDERS:

COTW Vote April 20-26 (ends Friday @ noon EST)
Wheeling Nailers Competition (entries due Friday May 11 @ noon EST)

On to the concepts!

Adam G.- Buffalo Sabres

Adam starts us off with a trip to Buffalo for a De-Edge look at the winners of the Rasmus Dahlin sweepstakes. First off, love the fact that silver is nowhere to be found on this concept. It's an necessary addition that really clutters the Sabres' current loon, in my opinion. I'm usually a big fan of using identical striping patterns to create two distinct looks within a set and that holds true here. The thin blue stripe added to the pattern on the road look works wonderfully as it allows the upper white stripe to remain a stripe, rather than just disappearing in to the body of the jersey. While some may complain of there being too much yellow on the road look, I like the balance it has, especially paired with the blue gloves and breezers

Overall Rating: 9.5/10
De-Edged and De-Cluttered beauty.

John E.- Seattle Kraken (NHL Expansion)

From the Frigid Northeast we head to the Pacific Northwest for a Seattle Expansion concept from John E. John takes inspiration from the rumored names being considered for what will likely become the NHL's 32nd team and imagines the Seattle Kraken for us today. Logos are incredibly well done here, and I love the uniqueness of the Captain's patches. They provide something unique to a new team, sort of like Vegas' white gloves. Striping pattern draws from the logo quite nicely, but I can't help but think that kind of suction cup patterning befits a minor league team more so than an NHL identity. Also, while the above concept has just enough blue in the away to make the color balance work, this one's missing just a bit too much to be entirely effective.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10
A solid look that's ready to be released into the wild, I'm just not sure that its natural habitat would be at the NHL level, though.

That's all for today folks. Congrat's to Adam's Buffalo Sabres Concept for taking home this week's COTW Nomination.
