Tuesday: Week of June 18 to 24, 2012
Sorry for not having a post yesterday. Sometimes life just gets in the way. Anyways, moving on...
The winner of the Canada vs USA Super Series competition is Justin C.! Here is his winning entry.
The full results of the vote are below.
The COTW nominees have been listed. You can see those concepts by clicking that banner on the side of the page or you can go to the CONCEPT OF THE WEEK tab. Voting will end on Friday this week because there was no post yesterday.
HJC readers in Calgary, I will be in your neck of the woods this weekend signing my new book. Okay, I don't have a book and I won't be signing anything. However, I do need a bit of help. I have figured out where the Flames' stores are and when they are open, but I'm having a hard time finding out if these stores properly number Heritage Classic sweaters. I also need it done on the spot. If anyone can give me info on this that would be excellent.
Next Monday, the 2012 HJC Open will begin! If you are interested in being in the tournament this year please read the HJC OPEN page and then send in your entry. You MUST read the HJC OPEN page before you send in your entry. There are a few rules there and you have to be sure that you can follow them. The tournament moves relatively quickly, so there is no room for error. There are only 16 spots open, so email me ASAP, after you read the contest page.
Toronto Maple Leafs concepts (by Kevin D.)
Kevin starts a new series today called the "Saturday Night Showdown". The idea is great, as he thinks the Original 6 and the Next 6 should wear throwback unis when they play each other on Saturdays! Solid Leafs sweaters here, it would be cool to see these a few times a season on HNIC. I like the lack of NOB too! 8/10
Toronto Maple Leafs concept (by Brandon C.)
I really like everything here except for the small lines under the yokes. I would get rid of those and make the outline on the player number a bit bigger. Other than that, these are quite good. Even the darker blue looks cool. 8/10
Toronto Maple Leafs concepts (by D3troit1388)
I like the idea of updating or changing the font inside the logo, but the font from the '67 logo just doesn't seem to fit nicely inside this one. Also, blue laces on a white jersey is kind of Tampa Bay's thing now. 7/10
Dallas Stars concept (by Tristan)
The logo is decent, but I don't think it needs that big black circle behind it. The jersey is okay, the stripes might be a bit big though. It gets a little cluttered around the shoulders. Needs sports-type numbers instead of a generic font. 6/10
Minnesota Wild concepts (by Thomas L.)
These would be excellent without the yokes. The green jersey looks too Boston-ish for me. Then the red yokes on the white jersey give that one too much of a Christmas vibe. Well executed and great presentation though. 7/10
Columbus Blue Jackets concepts (by Ian)
I think we've seen the home and road concepts before from Ian, but he's added a 3rd jersey. It's not too bad, but personally I would like to see the Blue Jackets' red used instead of the standard red given on MS Paint. 6/10
New York Rangers concepts (by Jesper)
The blue version of the road jersey looks good. It might be a good option for a future Classic in New York. While the alternate here is good as well. I've stated before my dislike of the Rangers (or Broadway Blueshirts) using a red jersey. 7/10
Detroit Red Wings concept (by Bobby P.)
Bobby suggests this jersey as a Winter Classic option. It's somewhat unlike anything the Wings have worn before, but it fits the "heritage" theme of the event well. I just might make the logo a bit bigger and add the Wings' current logo to the shoulders. 7/10
Manchester Monarchs concept (by Brady)
This is a "Pink In The Rink Night" concept from Brady. I'm a big fan a these nights in minor league hockey. It's a great cause and the teams get a blank canvas when it comes to designing their sweaters. Brady has done a great job here letting you know exactly what event this sweater is for, but also at the same time keeping it a hockey jersey. 8/10
Los Angeles Kings concepts (by Kyle C.)
These are cool, but I think what would be better than the yoke underlines would be to have double yoke outlines in the same colours. 7/10
Anaheim Ducks concepts (by DC Visual Arts)
Say what you will about the Might Ducks movies, those teams had some cool sweaters in the first film. If the Ducks were a farm team I'm sure they would have worn these by now. I like them except for the black in the stripes. Maybe I'd switch it with the yellow. 8/10
Florida Panthers concept (by Brandon C.)
Wow, this is a near perfect Panthers alternate sweater. The only issue that that the collar is mainly gold on the back, but mainly red on the front. 8/10
Colorado Avalanche concepts (by Justin C.)
These are instantly a hundred times better than the current sweaters. I love everything about them. COTW nom. 9/10
Boston Bruins concepts (by Kevin D.)
Really, how many of us don't want to see that yellow sweater come back? Are the Bruins not getting the message? It doesn't even have to be exactly like the Winter Classic sweater, just like Kevin's concept here. 8/10

Thanks to everyone who voted for me!
Brandon C's Panthers for COTW! I think it looks great!
Brandon C seconded
-Torin
Justin seconded for COTW. WAY BETTER than the current ones, love it!
If those Avs jerseys were unveiled as the new uniforms, I would be cheering in the streets!
Glad to know the four others I chose all actually were the top four. We all know that I was my only vote (since I don't expect others).
At the end of the year, can we vote for the best 10/10 rating of the year? That would be kinda cool!
I'll second Brandon C because Torin's second won't count (as per HJC guideline for nomination).
Torin's nom counts.
I've got to think FanAttic would be your best bet for cresting a Flames Heritage Classic jersey. I'm not sure if they can do those ones on location like they do with the usual jerseys.
You can get ahold of them on their web site to ask, though: http://www.flamesport.com/store/go/contact-us/
Most places in Calgary send there jerseys to a third party company, I went through this process to get my Jersey done. Jersey City and all the main stores send it out to this company, but it takes a lot longer to go through them than just going right to the company's office yourself, which you'll have to do if you want it very quickly. The company is near the airport, hopefully that helps. If you give them an extra few dollars they'll speed it up to a few days. If you want it on the spot you might have to plead with them and fork up a bit more cash, but if your persistant I'm sure you can get it.
