Thursday: A Little Bit of Everything
Hello everyone and welcome to HJC on this wonderful Thursday. I hope you've had a great day and I believe we're about 49 days away from hockey season now, and I can't wait for hockey to come back. The Pre-Season starts about a month from now and we still have yet to see multiple new jerseys, including the Sabres new third, a new Flames third, a new Wild road jersey, and new homes and roads from the Habs and the Sharks. We are also expecting new sweaters for the 5 other outdoor games being played (excluding the Winter Classic, which we've already seen new sweater for) which I'm guessing will come out later this year or even early next year. While we wait to see those, let's get going with today's concepts!
But first, today's colored voting reminders! Vote!
Washington Capitals concept (By: Frank C.)
Frank starts us off with a new design for the Caps. I like the new striping. The yokes with the stars are awesome. The only thing I'm really not feeling here is the pants. I think they would work better if they were just blue pants with white stars, no red stripes. Good job here.

Salavat Yulaev Ufa KHL concept (By: Jake88)
It's nice to see a KHL concept here and there, and this one is no different. These remind me of the new Predators jerseys, but green instead of gold. I really like these, it's a good look. The KHL logo on the collar insert is a nice touch. Great job.

Carolina Hurricanes concept (By: Brian B.)
Brian has a new concept for the recently-redesigned Hurricanes. I like the bigger yokes here, but I'm not a fan of the arm striping on either jersey. I wished the arm stripes matched the hem stripes, but I guess it still looks acceptable.

San Jose Sharks concept (By: Ian V.)
The Sharks are due for new uniforms this off-season and why not bring back grey? I personally like the teal and orange colors, but the teal and grey doesn't look bad either. I love the striping here, and I can still see a bit of the current jerseys in these. I'm not normally a big fan of that old font, but it looks nice here. Great job.

Newcastle Vipers EIHL concept (By: Coby S.)
After a bit of research, the Newcastle Vipers are a now-defunct team in the Elite Ice Hockey League, which is the main hockey league in the UK. Their logo was pretty cool too. This jersey is pretty cool, I like the arm stripes. The yoke seems pointless, and it seem it's just there because it can be. I'm not a big fan.

Air Force NCAA concept (By: Dylan W.)
We haven't seen many NCAA concepts in a while, but fear not, Dylan W. is embarking on an NCAA redesign! I'm assuming this is the first concept, and it's an awesome one. The diagonal stripe between the two stripes is awesome. The logo with the number is awesome, the font is cool, and I like just about everything here. Awesome job, and I can't wait to see more of this series.
Rating: 9/10 and a COTW nom from me!
Team Canada concept (By: Stephen T.)
The Olympics are getting closer and closer and we should be seeing a lot more International concepts soon, here is Stephen's Team Canada concept. Being born and raised in the US, I never really understood the whole "black, yellow, and red" thing, but it looks good. The font looks really cool too. I really like these, nice job.
Rating: 8/10
Arizona Coyotes concept (By: Bastian)
The Arizona Coyotes, in my opinion, should get a new look with the new name, and these are some cool sweaters. I really like the striping, very iconic yet still looks smooth and classic. The font is really cool as well. One thing, I wish there was some white on the home collar, and some black on the road collar. Other then that, great concept here.

Dinamo Riga KHL concept (By: Jake88)
Another KHL concept, why not? This time it's Dinamo Riga, and these are really out there. The city skyline is very cool, and the striping on the arms and yoke look cool. Awesome job and great creativity here.

Have a good rest of the week! Thanks for reading.

No offense to Coby, because I look forward to seeing the improvement in his concepts but I think his concept here has been over valued.
I'd say a 5 or 6 because the numbers are too small and the tv numbers aren't in the proper position. The idea is fine but the execution is poor.
I agree. If you're not a big fan, it needs a lower rating than 7/10. I think 5/10 would be more realistic. My first concepts were terrible. The only way I got better was getting critiqued. I had some low ratings, and it pushed me to get better.
Wow, I forgot about the NCAA redesign...I have to get started on that again. A lot of crazy ideas I can put into concepts too.
Isn't the point of hockey concept jerseys the idea, and the general look feel and design of the jersey, not the execution. I agree that execution should play a part in the scoring of the concept but should not have such a huge effect. A 5/10 would be too harsh because the point of the jersey is the design. It's not a final draft of a NHL jersey that will be put in play tomorrow! ITS AN IDEA! His idea needs help but it is far from a 5/10. I think the writer scored this concept correctly.
The "black, yellow and red thing" if from the sweaters the Winnipeg Falcons wore to the 1st Olympic games with hockey in 1920. They won the gold for Canada.
