Monday: Them Some Pretty Jerseys

Hello ladies and gentleman! It is once again the beginning of the work week,  and therefore Monday. No news today in the way of new jerseys, but if you want to hear my take on the new Admirals set, it's a beautiful logo set (a 9/10) on a meh jersey (a 6/10). It's not bad, I just don't find the modern style fitting.

The open is still up and running! If you're still in the competition, make sure you have your concept submitted by tomorrow. Then the voting goes up! Also, COTW voting is going on just as always.

HJC Open Semi-Finals entries (due Tuesday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

COTW July 12-18 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Christian L. - Halifax Schooners

Execution: There is but one issue I found. The stitching should end at the stripes. (. 5/1)
Striping: Interesting, but in a good way. I'm one of the slim few who likes the Capitals Winter Classic jersey, and this yoke reminds me of that. Although I personally would have made the stripes thinner. Outside of those shoulders, it's a simple and classic design that I just can't complain about. (1.5/2)
Effectiveness: I don't know if it's expansion ready yet, but I can still see it on the ice. It's a little difficult, but I'll give it the point. (1/1)
Creativity: Definitely creative. (2/2)
Other: Off the bat, I don't like those numbers at all. They're a little too modern and the two tone effect just doesn't emit well. But the logo on the other hand is gorgeous. I would love to see that logo on the ice. (3/4)

Overall: I like bits and pieces of the concept a lot. The logo is beautiful and all thought out. But together it just doesn't work for me. (8/10)

Daryl D. - Sudbury Nickel Barons

Execution: A few smaller issues with this concept. When you use a chest stripe, you get rid of the stitching overlying it. The nameplate here looks a little funky. Try to make sure you only have the name as well as the stitching there. On the sock, you may notice that the pixels are shifted slightly over. (.25/1)
Striping: This patten is definitely new to me in terms of being on the chest. It translated well. (2/2)
Effectiveness: For a Junior team, anything is probably better than what they already have. (1/1)
Creativity: I'd say this is pretty creative. It isn't a groundbreaking idea though (1.5/2)
Other: My first change I'd make to this concept is use what is currently the shoulder logo on the chest. I mean, I understand it's the team's logo and all, but christ. It looks like the Pringles guy in a top hat. I think your color balancing here is very well done, but I would've used a blue number instead of black for sake of keeping some more consistency. (2/4)

Overall: This is a great concept with a few major shortcomings. (6.75/10)

Matt McElroy - Buffalo Beauts

Execution: You killed it (1/1)
Striping: I like the pattern used on the sleeves a lot. It's simple, clean, and in a 2 color concept like this, it looks amplified. The biggest issue I have is that it is so simplistic, but it isn't all that bad. (1.75/2)
Effectiveness: I'm guessing this is for the contest the NWHL was hosting. If so, I wish you the best and I think you have a solid shot. (1/1)
Creativity: I've seen it often, but this is probably one of the best ones that I've seen done. (1.5/2)
Other: Having the yoke drop down the back like that was genius. It helps that name really pop. (4/4)

Overall: You kept it simple, and that just so happened to snag you a (9.25/10) and a COTW nom.

Well, that's it for today! Sorry this wasn't up to par with my other posts, I had to make this Frankensteins monster during my lunch break. Sadly though, I can't be blamed for the three concepts today. Don't let the summer slump get to us! Keep sending us more concepts!

GO BLACKHAWKS!!! GO DUCKS!!!

Well I got a Canadian right here so at least I have a nice "morning adult" beverage

COTW Nom. for Christian L's Halifax concept, it's GORGEOUS!

I'll 2nd Christian

I'll 3rd Christian's Halifax. That's my favorite of his NHL expansion concepts, aside from the Quebec one that we've seen in various incarnations for a while now (COTY 2014).
