Tuesday: Tuesdays (Post) Gone With The Wind

Hey guys, you seem to be missing a post for today.  That's a bother, maybe I can help.

First off, for those involved, get your entries in for the HJC Open Final! And for everyone else, make sure you get your votes in when the time comes.

And everyone should remember to vote for COTW. Just make sure you're signed into Google and check out the tab on the side of the page. Easy peasey lemon squeezey.

Alright, no time to waste today, let's get straight to it!

HJC Open Final entries (due Tuesday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW July 19-25 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

Michigan Tech Huskies - Ben S.

As far as I can tell, this suits their classic style of current jerseys well.
Colours are well balanced.
Good use of the straight-up college wordmark on the away jersey.

No TV Numbers
Looks really similar to what they use now (again, as far as I can tell)
Same jersey style on all 3 jerseys is kind of lazy

Overall: Solid, but uninspiring. 7.7/10

Washington Capitals -  Bpoe96

For all of the attempts of making a very pro-American jersey that I've seen, none are as original as this.
Simplistic style would work well for a Stadium Series game.
Having 2 different sock designs to match the flag is actually a really cool idea.
As complex of a concept this is, its executed very well.

Only problem is the gap between numbers on a back. If the plan is for the stripes to end right where the numbering is, then from a manufacturing and logistics standpoint, that's impossible. The numbers generally go on the jersey after. There's no really good way to fix this, but ending the stripes on the sides or right in the middle of the back is all you can really do.

Overall: This is one of the coolest concepts I've seen in a long time.  8.7/10

Idaho Steelheads - Brooks F.

Who needs colour to have beautiful landscapes on jerseys?
The mountain and tree designs look really sharp and well done.
One of the better black and white jerseys I've seen on the blog.
Good font choice.

I wish the grey highlights stood out just a little bit more, besides on the numbers.
I don't think the tree design would look too great on hockey socks. I think the "mountain" design would do just fine.

Overall: Very original and unique, but has tons of identity and its design is nearly flawless.  8.6/10

Faded Classics Fan Jersey Series - Vaughn R. & William B.

I don't really know how to review this one, so I'll just talk about it.  While the ones I reviewed on Sunday were mostly Vaughn's work, this one was mostly mine.  I wanted to make a "fan series" that is consistent with all 30 teams, and payed tribute to the heritage of the league.  But what I didn't want to do is recreate throwbacks, I wanted every team to have something basic, but new.  I had a bit of fun with this set, throwing in some old or rarely used logos and colours (like Buffalo in black and red, Florida in blue and Los Angeles in purple), and other than making the Blues jersey a darker version of the Rangers jersey, I love how they all turned out.

But I hope you guys chime in and tell me what you think about this concept.  Which jerseys do you like, and which should be thrown in the turd-burger pile? Let me know!

I'll give today's COTW nomination to Bpoe96's Washington Capitals concept, but Brooks' concept came really close.  I hope both concepts get some nomination love.

So don't forget to submit your HJC Open concepts (for those involved), vote for the HJC Open Champion in the next few days, and vote for the COTW sometime before Friday.

Sorry that this post was so late and rushed, but I'm happy I could give you guys today's post.

Thanks for reading, and see you on Sunday!

The washington capitals jerseys are very cool but i can't really see them ever actually wearing them, there for the i would vote for Brooks' concept for COTW. Thats just personal preference on the fact of that they would never wear that washington jersey.

I'm gonna nominate William and Vaughn's faded classics for COTW. Some crazy random logo selection there guys. The sharks chompy wordmark on a jersey?? I love it!

I could see the Washington jerseys being used as a warm up set for 9-11 anniversary or some other American holiday like Veteran's Day and auctioned off. The problem I have with the Washington set is the blue field and stripes are not reversed on the batch to match the front or vice versa. It's unique idea. I'll second Bpoe's Caps design.
