Tuesday: A Week of Writer's Challenges!

Hi everybody. Welcome back to HJC. Don't really have anything to talk about this week so I'm just going get to the concepts right after I remind you about voting for COTW-June, COTW, and the HJC Open Semi-Finals vote.

ONE MORE THING! Ryan gave us writers the opportunity to give you guys a challenge and I decided to give you guys one that is close to my heart. Steve M's challenge to the HJC community is to redo the jerseys of the Lithuania National Hockey Team. Just look them up and you'll understand how downgraded their jerseys got when they switched to looking like the Latvia National Team. And to see the two rules to it, only use the Nike Swift Jersey template (because that's the current template) and use the logo that I provided for you with any modifications you please (i.e. the knight on horseback silhouette on the front of the current jersey) as well as the colors of the Lithuanian flag with the addition of black. I hope you guys take the challenge and good luck.

Ok onto the Concepts!

Blake S- Ottawa Senators
Positives: Go back to the side profile logo and a black jersey for the home jersey was a good idea on this one. Also, adding the Senators pattern from the logo into the striping for the logo is always a plus.
Negatives: The gold being more prominent than the red is a bit of an issue for me but I can see passed that. What I can't see past is that your shoulder patches are too small, your TV numbers aren't correct, and your back numbers are small as well.
Overall: 6/10

Jordan Roberts- Flint Spirits
Positives: The use of the B-2 Bomber as a slight nod to the old arrowhead was a good idea to keep. Also, those bold lines under the yoke of the jersey in the front really stand out and give the primary set a unique but classic look. Also, excellent presentation as always.
Negatives: Why two greens on the road jersey and not just use white? Also, think about logo placement on the "Tropics" jersey because if this were to be used in reality then how would it work with the player?
Overall: 8/10

Lucas Daitchman- San Jose Sharks
Positives: Hey LD, I'm still waiting for you to answer me on where to get that template because it rocks with this jersey. This throws me back to the 1998-2007 white sharks jersey. The extended yoke looks really good with the numbers in it and that black triangular striping (as to represent a shark fin is my guess) gives it that nice splash of black on the jersey while keeping the orange to just the collar insert.
Negatives: 1. Make a dark version of this. 2. add some black to the hem and maybe make the collar black and you got a perfect jersey right there.
Overall: 9.25/10 COTW NOMINEE

 Noah Balkovec- Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Positives: The angled striping on the arms with the large extended cuffs looks really good on this and the different colored yokes give it a completely different look.
Negatives: Call me a purist, but a Might Ducks jersey without the yellow sticks or any bright color looks kind of dull. I feel that some color would really do this concept justice, and probably move the TV numbers up and fix them so they are properly shown as described in the tutorials section.
Overall: 7/10

Ryan Christensen- Buffalo Sabres
Positives: Yes the "BUFFALO" script is back! the "B" on the pants is also a nice touch to the pants. I appreciate how you kept the design very simple but gave it a throwback feel.
Negatives: The shoulder patches aren't necessary. Also, please make a back version of the jersey.
Overall: 8/10

Ryan Christensen- Hamilton Tigers
Positives: My first thoughts on this was "So this is what a 1980's version of the Hamilton Tigers would look like." The arms look really good on this and it gives the jersey just enough attention that the hem looks fine being bare.
Negatives: Please make a back of this.
Overall: 8.75/10

Ryan Haslett- Team USA
Positives: While I'm more of a fan of using McElroy's Adidas WCH template, you really made this one work in your favor Ryan. The Striping is nice, the diagonal "USA" looks good and the white yoke, hem bottom, and cuffs really tie this together.
Negatives: The fact that the "USA, doesn't go with the fabric bothers me a bit.
Overall: 8.5/10

Ok everybody, that's all I got today. I'm going to bet that Phil will ask you to do a challenge regarding the Islanders (Possibly the Fisherman logo) so be prepared for what Phil and the rest have to throw at you guys and remember, Always spay and neuter your pets. Have a good week everybody.
