Wednesday: An Alternate Take
It's Wednesday, my dudes!
You thought you were done with us, weren't you? After a day off to reset some things on our end, we're back to our previously scheduled programming with our daily concepts posts.
Yesterday was election day here and the states and we're looking to keep promoting that civic duty here on HJC, so be sure to let your voice be heard in both the COTW and 90s Redesign votes. Both will end this Friday at noon EDT.
Keep an ear out for the Jersey Nerds Podcast as well. After another temporary hiatus, we're back to our regularly scheduled programming on that as well.
REMINDERS:
COTW October 26 - November 1 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
90's NHL ReDesign Top 3 vote (ends Friday @ noon ET)
Jersey Nerds Podcast (new episode every Tuesday!)

Burkus Circus.- Penn State University Nittany Lions

A look that does a lot of good for the boys from Happy Valley, but not much of that good is new, unfortunately.
Burkus Circus.- Wisconsin Badgers
From Pennsylvania, we head Northwest to Wisconsin. Burkus adopts the ever-popular upper arm fill here, and I have to say I think its a mistake. The upper-arm fill is a good look, don't get me wrong, but I think its gotten far too much popularity in concepts after been adopted by Pittsburgh and Vegas. Another step back here is the inclusion of black in the home and road. With so little in the logo and virtually no black used by any of the school's existing teams, it just seems like a poorly informed decision. The alternate, though, I do like, although I'd move the stripes close together to better match the logo where large red stripes are separated but much thinner strokes of white to create a Wisconsin W. Rather than muddying up the look with black, we get a clean red and white here that really works.

Second verse, same as the first. Give me a set based of the alt and I'm a happy camper.
Truman K.- Winnipeg Jets
If you ask me, the new Jets' alternate has received so much more criticism than it deserves. A well designed logo, a beautiful color pallet and it still seems to be one of the most disliked alternates of this season. Is it simple? Sure, but we've seen what happens when teams try to go too far out of the box (I'm looking at you, Tampa Bay). Here, Truman adopts that alternate look to a main set and, for the most part, it works. Maybe its just my eyes, but there isn't enough contrast between the two blues used here to make an effective look. At any respectable distance, the home and road become the current Penn State primaries I mentioned earlier as the aviator blue blends into the navy. The new wordmark looks great on both jerseys, and I'd honestly say be even bolder and make the away #OB white with a navy outline to match. The third doesn't really do much for me, as its just a recoloring of the Heritage look and that's a step back from the original in my eyes.
Overall Rating: 8.25/10
Not the highest flying look for the Jets, but certainly one good enough to get them off the ground.
That's all for today folks.
This week's COTW Nomination heads to Truman's Winnipeg Jets Concept
