Sunday: Anchors Aweigh into the New Year!
Happy New Year's Day everyone. I'm back from his week of hibernating from the flu to bring you another great Sunday post.
For a few weeks now, I've already had planned what I wanted to do for this post. No, it's not a year in review of all the jerseys because everybody else is doing that. I chose to do another club hockey team. However, this post is a little more special than most of the other teams I've covered in the past. The teams works hard everyday both on and off the rink with the ultimate goal of protecting the USA when they graduate.

The United States Navel Academy hosts two club teams, D1 and D2. The jersey I will be talking about is currently worn by the D2 squad. Both team practice everyday and have two games every weekend. For our Canadian readers who might not know anything about the USNA, it's a very prestigious institution to be accepted into and all the Midshipmen have very busy days scheduled, so having to add in two hour practices for hockey to the mixture is very impressive. So without further delay, I give to you the "Don't Tread on Me" themed Naval Academy uniform created by Rebirth Sports!
This uniform is so beautiful it almost brings a team to a bald eagle's eye. Almost. Seriously though, if you were to ask someone to design a uniform that represented the history and pride of the U.S. Navy without physically making it an American Flag jersey this would be it right here.
As explained to me by Midshipman Thomas J. Phillips, the logo chose is to represent the "Don't Tread on Me" flag flown at the bow of every ship as well as the term written on the inside of the jersey. Also, the team has the traditional U.S. flag on one shoulder and the Marine Corps' Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on the other shoulder as a tribute to the Marine Corps because that's another option for a Midshipman to choose once they get out of the academy. Also, if you're like me and wondering if they'll ever sell these to the public, Thomas informed me that they never thought about it and that they would have to speak with the academy's licensing department. Let's hope the Navy let's that happen. My score: A perfect 10/10.
To finish, Thomas explained to me that all the players make up a tight-knit group of Midshipmen who can rely on each other. These kids don't just deserve to have a traditional band recording playing the Star Spangled Banner at their hockey games. They deserve to have the Jimi Hendrix Star Spangled Banner played at every game that they wear these jerseys. In all honesty, there's nothing that needs to be changed here. I do wish that the D1 team would wear a Dark Version of this jersey!

So we have two things going on here as well as the COTW voting. First, we have the Americans competition going on. You have so much freedom for this competition so get your stuff in before Friday at noon. Also, the finals of the Season is in the voting and ends at the same time as the entries for the Americans competition So get on that.
Onto the Concepts!
Positives: Very pleasing to the eye and making the blue crab as the team mascot was, as you said, a no brainer. While the hem looks identical to the penguins' new uniform, the arms look really good and the striping style to used for them works really well. As for the Alternate, The yoke striping really sticks out to me as well as the chest stripe. Also, the alternate logo looks nice on the chest.
Negatives: You could do without that stripe on the helmets. Also, the logos are just really plain and it would be nice to look see a much more detailed crab logo.
Overall: 8.75/10
Positives: Lucas I'll be honest with you. This could possibly be the first identity swap that actually worked. The main logo with the howling coyote is just beautiful. The colors work perfectly with the uniform, and the alternate logos actually look really good too.
Negatives: I still hate the yoke numbers and patches on the arms but this is an identity swap so I can't really hold that against you.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE (noise makers going off)
Positives: The color on color Idea is excellent idea. The logo on the front loos great and the shoulder logos look beautiful. Also, good idea keeping the Nashville numbers on the jerseys.
Negatives: The different colored name bar across the backs of the jerseys just doesn't look that appealing. Also, that very prominent of white on the yellow just looks strange to me.
Overall: 8/10
