Sunday: Returning the Favour
It’s Sunday, my dudes.
Wednesday writer Justin, here, returning the favour to Steve who was gracious enough too cover my Wednesday post while I was staring down the barrel of Finals Week.
Now, however, finals week is over and I’m done with classes (for the next three weeks, that is) so expect more of me in the weeks to come. Back on podcasts, writing news stories, maybe an opinion piece of my own. Keep those eyes and ears open, folks.
We’ve got some more voting for you this week, so be sure to exercise your civic duty in both our later competition and COTW votes.
REMINDERS:
2019 All Star Redesign Competition vote (ends Friday @ noon EST)
COTW November 30-December 6 vote (ends Friday @ noon EST)
Jersey Nerds Podcast (new episode every Tuesday!)
On to the concepts!
_____________________________________________________________________________
Adam G.- Winnipeg Jets
Adam starts us off with a continuation of his Canadian Transit Series. Today’s stop: Winnipeg, Manitoba with a look at the Jets. While I appreciate the uniqueness of the series inspiration, I must admit this concept falls a bit flat in execution. When implementing a five colour pallete, you really need to make sure each colour is used enough to make its inclusion worthwhile. Here, we have a primarily blue and white look with the other three colors shoe-horned in under the arms. What we end up with is not something that looks like a Jets jersey or even a Winnipeg transit jersey, but rather a classic Maple Leafs jersey that someone’s child got a hold off and absent-mindedly dipped the sleeves in the paint Mom and Dad were using to refinish the living room.
Overall Rating: 7.0/10
An adventurous idea, but not any quest I’d be accepting any time soon.
Mac W.- Seattle SeaDogs
Now that Seattle has officially been awarded a franchise, expansion concepts are incentives again bound to dominate the Concept universe as we anticipate what the new team might look like. Mac sticks to the expected pretty well here wth a maritime namesake and a navy and green colour pallete that fits right in with the two existing Seattle teams. Unfortunately, in doing so, he commits two cardinal sins that will always hurt my opinion of any Seatlle Concept. First, I think a navy and green pallete is a mistake, although fitting in with the Seattle sports scene, it overlooks the new team’s neighbor’s to the North who already adopt a similar scheme. With the Canucks slated to be Seattle’s instant rival, I think the Battle for the Pacific Northwest would be a whole lot more interesting if it doesn’t look like an inter squad scrimmage. The second comes with the alternate. Yes, the Metropolitans existed and yes, they are almost legendary when it comes to Seattle hockey history. But no, I don’t think a Metros jersey needs to come back. Frankly it was not a great Jersey when it did exist and it’s important for a new team to be able to forge their own identity as a franchise. Don’t get me wrong, this is a solid concept , it’s just one of those right place at the wrong time scenarios that offered me a springboard to share my thoughts on the influx of Seattle concepts.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10
Not a bad look, but Seattle would be better served with a more unique identity rather than establishing themselves as the Canucks southern cousins.
That's all for today folks.
No COTW Nomination this week. I’ll leave that up to you.

Although there isn't enough use of the underarm colors (like Justin said), I do love the new color selection from Adam. Great job, Adam!
As for Mac's concept, I don't think the jerseys quite work together. The name sounds a little bit too fictitious. The primary logo seems too dark and blends in to the home jersey's color, and should stay the same as the away gray logo. Although I'm not a fan of the jerseys, I would really love to see Mac do a Seattle Kraken concept!
