Monday: Goin' Back to Hali
I may have used this title already but I like it so it's getting used again. Happy Monday and Happy Labo(u)r day to those who work and one day in September don't because reasons.
Jersey News:
We have had two released this past week. We'll start in the big leagues where the Islanders have announced they are going to unveil a black alternate later this month....and then it (maybe) was leaked that same day.
You've seen what it looks like by now I'm sure be what does your ol' pal Jets think of it....meh?
Again maybe I'm just turing into a cynic but the last few alternates out of the NHL have underwhelmed me and while this is not bad...it could have been a lot better with some very basic changes.
I like the striping and NY logo, but the hem is so bare it's just one black patch of fabric. The previous alternate had lots of colour and was well liked, and while the colours are gone, the yoke should have been kept the same, white and with a shoulder patch (a black and white Islanders logo comes to mind). The collar took me some time to get used to but I like it after a little time when by, the fold over doesn't look misplaced or tacky. The jersey is just bland, and unlike the previous the colour doesn't make up for it.
Rating: 6.25/10
The San Diego Gulls just unveiled their new jerseys, despite them being prematurely unveiled in NHL16 Beta. The white jersey we've seen and my thoughts remain the same, however, the black jersey is quite nice. I now get why the team chose the black yoke, it does look LIKE Anaheim, but the light blue keeps them looking semi original.
My rating goes up on the white jersey and for the whole set
Rating*: 6.75/10
Am I too harsh? Probably, but you can tell me in the comments how you feel!
Voting! Do it! We got two really important votes to vote in, and it's still just as easy as it has been for a while now with the Google Docs system. Take care of it now so you're not scrambling Friday.
Let's look at those Chicago Cougars that have come in since yesterday's post:

Ottawa Senators Braca Treatment Concept (By: David P.)
+ This is a really creative idea, I'm not the biggest soccer follower but I was surprised when Barcelona did go this route
+ One would think vertical striping on a hockey jersey doesn't work but this one looks pretty sweet, it doesn't look like the striping on the hood of a car
+ The former hem stripe looks good on the arms
+ Good execution
- I know that these are soccer numbers, but using hockey number would complete the whole look, plus I like Ottawa's alternate numbers a lot
- The tv numbers are a little small
Rating: 8.5/10
Carolina Hurricanes Concept (By: Jimmy T.)
+ On Carolina's current away, I like the striping and while it doesn't have the hurricane flags on it, it'd still look great on the a black alternate
+ Colours are balanced perfectly with the logo
+ Thank goodness that double black/gray is gone, it looked okay for a few years but I'm sick of it and this more reflects Carolina's current look
+ Good execution
- The Hurricanes NEED that flag patch, I know they haven't used it on they current jerseys but it would complete this look, and would fill the shoulders
- More of a preference thing, but I prefer the current numbers to the old one
- Captain's C is too small
Rating: 8/10
Texas Stars Concepts (By: Taylor R.)
+ Taylor mixes my two favourite looks in Dallas history, the original Stars jersey and the current one
+ This would be a great way to connect the Stars and the T-stars, without making the jerseys a copy
+ Love the addition of silver, it works with the new T-Stars logo
+ Great execution
+ The Dallas numbers with an outline looks even better, that would be the one change the Stars would make to make their jerseys better
- While I appreciate the green numbers, black numbers would match the yoke and stripes
Rating: 9.25/10 COTW Nom from me!
Triton College Trojans Concepts (By: Chris W.)
+ I like when concepts are made for smaller teams, they have more leverage to get creative
+ The home and road are simple, but they show off the colours well, similar to the Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys of the 80s
+ Those numbers are excellent!
+ The alternate is the best jersey of the bunch, with the excellent striping pattern, lots of little details
- The home and road suffer from Minnesota's problem with two different logos on the home and road, the roundel would make a good shoulder patch and the helmet the better primary
Rating: 8.5/10
Anaheim Ducks Concept (By: Jimmy T.)
+ OC shoulder patch is one of the best shoulder patches of the past few years and so glad Jimy chose to use it
+ According to what we've seen this is what the Ducks will do and there have been quite a few concepts make like this, and every time I say the same thing, I like it a lot
+ I love the arm and hem stripes, they show off every cloud but don't look tacky
+ Good execution
- One thing that's always bothered me about the Ducks is their pants, there's no colour aside form one little itty bitty orange stripe. Either scrapping the stripe for a logo or a really pants pattern
Rating: 9/10
Anaheim Ducks Soccer Crossover Concepts (By: Daniel L.)
+ I love hockey/soccer crossovers, this looks to be a really promising series
+ Orange and black look really good together, and with the right amount of gold and white, they look phenomenal, especially on the orange jersey
+ While I don't normally like mismatching logos, but the OC on the clash kit adds more creativity to it
+ Good execution
- The white and gold on the sides of the black jersey don't go together well, and I think that's since the gold is lighter. If you went with a darker gold that wouldn't be a problem
Rating: 8.75/10
Quad City Mallards Concept (By: Dylan T.)
+ While the Mallards haven't had a bad look in quite a few years, this was my favourite of their looks, bright, bold and creates a sort of rainbow
-The monochromatic numbers don't looks good and very chunky, the NOB is also too larger and spread out
- Yoke outlines are not usually something that work, but there would need to be a shoulder patch to work, and Mallards did have a nice one during this era
- Pale green and turquoise don't go together well, the jerseys from this era didn't use the double green or much orange since they don't go together than well, the green and turquiose/gray do, which is why they are used so much on the logo. It's the same problem the Thrashers had, using too many colours from the logo
Rating: 5.75/10- This isn't a bad concept, but there wasn't a lot I found to like on it
Albany Devils Concept (By: Jordan R.)
+ Full credit to Jordan for making an origin and good looking Devils logo. I have seen so many bad attempts to make a realistic devil logo that looks too dark and angled or simple. This logo is simple but it's original, not overly dark but still menacing
+ The addition of a 3rd colour was an excellent choice
+ Love the jerseys, different from the NJ Devils but it's a mix between the original and classic Devils with new elements
+ A good looking black 3rd jersey
- I would have gone with silver or white instead of gold
- The A on its own looks good, but the script it's paired with looks like something you'd see in the intro to a mid 80's VHS
Rating: 9.25/10

I'll nominate Jordan's Albany Devils for COTW. I don't like the number/name font but the jerseys and logos are great and the addition of yellow really gives it something new.
I want to nomimate Chris W's Triton College concept.
