Friday: Day Saved
It’s Friday, my dudes.
Third times the charm this week as Wednesday writer Justin is back to save the day for TC as the holiday craziness rolls on.
As most of you should know at this point, HJC is undergoing some changes in the new year and we are just a week away from seeing those changes take place. Though daily concepts have been part of the HJC bloodline from the start, we couldn't be more excited to be taking a step forward and providing you much more and much more varied content in the new year.
Some things to get excited about (and things that already excite the writers here at HJC):
1) COMPETITIONS
We're ringing in the new year with a fresh slate of competitions, back and better than ever. Many of your favourites will return and there's sure to be some new competitions you've never even dreamed of before. Plus, with the daily concepts gone, there's no more worry of submitting something to the site and no longer being able to use it in a competition, so be sure to put your best foot forward in each of your comp entries.
2) PODCASTS
Something we've fallen in love with this year (and something we hope you have as well) is the Jersey Nerds Podcast. In 2019, you can look forward to not one, but THREE Podcasts per week. We'll have the regular Jersey Nerds Podcast that we've been running weekly in 2018 as well as the Fake or Authentic Podcast and the Throwback Throwdown Podcast. These two new shows spin off of segments we've run on the Jersey Nerds Podcast throughout the year, so be sure to give some of the old episodes a listen for a taste of what's in store.
3) NEWS
This year, HJC has really taken a step forward in establishing itself as a news provider. This year alone, we've been the first to break stories on the USA Olympic and NHL All-Star Jerseys, as well as the Maple Leafs Stadium Series look and the Isles' ill-fated script wordmark. This is something we really enjoy and can't wait to devote more resources to so we can be your one stop shop for all things hockey jerseys.
4) STORIES
No news, no problem! In 2019, we're looking to give a deeper dive into all the knowledge we've gleaned on hockey jerseys over the years. Need to know how to spot a fake, how to wash your longtime jersey love, how to find that golden goose you've been chasing for years? Look no further. All that and more coming to you in the new and improved HJC. Coming December 27th, 2018.
On to the concepts!

Adam G.- Calgary Flames
Back on track with another transit concept from Adam. I think this one works the best of any transit concept I've reviewed if for nothing else than the colour pallete similarity between Calgary Transit and the city's NHL club. I've always preferred the white C on the dark jersey over the black, so that's nice to see here. The mountain roundel is also, IMO, the best logo the Flames have come up with in a long white, so it's nice to see that on the shoulders here, especially when its replacing that horrid dual flag look. The thick striping works well, though I think it would work better if it matched the thick-thin-thin look of the logo and NOB. Overall, no major complaints, but not much to write home about either.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10
Might have a flame on the front, but not quite a look that sets my heart ablaze.
Jake M.- Erie Otters
If Nashville ever wants to get their heads out of their... helmets design-wise, Jake provides a possible solution here in his look for the Erie Otters. The yellow is certainly my favourite look in this set. The stripping pattern is simply beautiful and the logo looks right at home on the chest. I might suggest carrying the yoke outline along the front and back just to keep the consistency of blue and yellow always being separated by white. The white look, while well done, messes with the color balance a bit as blue takes precedence over yellow, creating a disconnect with the yellow-dominated logo. Same yoke striping suggestion goes here as well. Execution note, the back hem that shows through on the front should match the pattern on the back, so both jerseys should show some blue showing through rather than just white or black.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
A look for the Erie that leaves me cheery.
That's all for today folks.
Two posts and still no Nominations from me. Third times the charm, I'll send my COTW Nomination Matt G's way for his Erie Otters Concept.

Second Matt's Otters
So the changes are still happening despite the overwhelmingly negative response?
@Josh: 6-10 people does not count as overwhelming. The near 50 emails and messages that I have received which look forward to the changes has caught my attention though.
Also, it could be 300 million people who don't want HJC to change, that would have no effect on me.
#DaySaved
@Ryan: I've only seen the comments on posts, which have all been negative, so I'll have to take your word on the emails.
As a reader, I will definitely miss the concepts and the feedback that helps artists improve. Without any constructive criticism, the same small handful of people winning every competition will get boring pretty quickly.
