Tuesday: 14 New Concepts

On the first day 8 of 20 HJC Open entries came in. Well done guys! For those that have yet to send theirs in, don't worry you have until Wednesday @ 11:59pm EST to do so.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Committee Members, in all the busyness of the HJC Open, you may forget that there is also a COTW vote going on. The deadline is below.
COTW June 18-24 vote (ends Thursday @ 11:59pm EST)

Montreal Canadiens concepts (by Kevin)
I love when the Habs break out retro sweater. I think that white jersey is what some of us would have liked to of seen the Canadiens wear for the Heritage Classic. On the red jersey I understand trying to be as accurate as possible, I just think commercially it would be better if the collar was blue. I'd also like to see more "old-timey" numbers. 8/10

Winnipeg Jets concept (by MasonII)
This is well executed, but to me it looks like a Sens sweater in Jets colours. The thing that does that is the design on the sleeves and on the sides. I get that idea, but I think something more unique would be better. 7/10

F.H.S. concepts (by Ricky)
This is what Ricky sent in when FHS (Fredericton High School) asked me to gather up some new jersey concepts for them. This one didn't work because they wanted a NEW logo. I haven't heard anything back from FHS, but this weekend I hope to have everyone's submissions in a post. 6/10

OHL at the Winter Classic concepts (by Brian R.)
I could like both of these sweaters, but I really don't think they work well on the Nike Swift template. Also, next season the CHL will still be using Reebok sweaters. 6/10

Hamilton Beavers concepts (by Chuckie)
The jerseys and the colours are cool, but the size of the stripes on the player models don't match those that are on the jerseys. Chuckie drew his own wood H logo, which is quite creative. 7/10

Florida Panthers concepts (by Tyler G.)
Tyler has added piping to the sleeves and hem stripes to the bottom of the Panthers' sweaters. These are nice additions that improve the sweaters, but I still think that the Panthers can do better. These are really nicely executed. 8/10

Foo Fighters concept (by Tyler C.)
Tyler has some guitar picks from Dave Grohl (frontman) and thought they would be great as shoulder patched on a Foo's jersey. Agreed. This is a very cool jersey, but there are some execution issues. Your numbers on the back are way too close together and seeing as this is a black jersey, a black background doesn't show it off well. 8/10

Quebec Nordiques concepts (by Bobby P.)
These are really great jerseys, but I'm not liking the Boston-like yokes. I think red trimmed yokes or just plain white yokes would be better. 8/10

Anaheim Ducks concepts (by Scott M.)
We have seen this a few times before, but that's because it's quite agreeable. Scott promoted the third to primary and has created a white road jersey to match. As we have come to expect from Scott, the execution is excellent. 7/10

Edmonton Oilers concept (by MasonII)
Mason intends this as a 3rd jersey for the Oilers. The execution is superb, but the amount of red trim is too much for my tastes. I also don't care for the arm stripes on an angle. Maybe some more character elsewhere on the jersey, like the numbers or font, would make me more accepting of the angled stripes? 7/10

New Jersey Devils concept (by Justin)
The jersey combined with the concept logo (thanks for citing it properly) is really great! I like the grey with the black and red a lot. To top it all off, the sublimated flames on the cuffs are perfect. This would be a great 3rd jersey for the Devils, which is what Justin intended it to be. COTW nom from me! 9/10

Colorado Avalanche concepts (by Brandon C.)
I like everything and then I get to the shoulders. I would make that shoulder patch smaller, but I do like the logo choice. I'd also get rid of the yokes and just go with the stripes underneath them. I like the way they interact with the collar. 8/10

Vancouver Canucks concept (by Steven G.)
You probably have seen this a couple of other places before here, but this is Steven's soccer inspired Canucks sweater. While I wouldn't want to see it on the ice, Steven's done a wonderful job conveying the image of a soccer club's kit. If the Whitecaps (MLS) were tearing it up and winning championships, this may be a cool fan jersey to sell at Rogers Arena. 8/10

New York Rangers concepts (by Kevin)
Again, I will congratulate Kevin on completing ANOTHER series! This series has been waiting since the end of May to be posted because he has submitted so many other concept series. These are well executed, but on the road white I would do away with the shoulder yokes. My favourite part of this whole series, other than how logical it was, is that Kevin didn't use NOB and that really helped with the "special jersey night" feel and look. 8/10
