Tuesday: Volt or Neon Yellow?
Hi everybody. Welcome back to another Tuesday post with your host, me. Round 1 of the playoffs is almost over. I will be looking forward to the Penguins-Capitals match up after the Pens gave the Rangers a shellacking.
The 2nd Round of the Playoff will begin on Wednesday...before the 1st Round is complete! This will affect the Playoff Pool and submitting picks. I have determined the fairest way to deal with this is to give everyone two days of Round 2 for free.
You get to watch the Islanders-Lightning game before you submit your picks. You will also get to watch all Thursday games if you wish, before submitting your picks.
Just a heads up.
Before I get to the 9 concepts today, I'm going to introduce the newest jersey to the University of Oregon's Club Hockey Team arsenal. This jersey is somewhat unique to the hockey world but fits within the crazy athletic department that is Oregon University. Now, their recent throwback jerseys have gained so much popularity that they had a massive sale and decided to add some of the old with the new. So, without further interruption, I present their newest jersey:

As you can see by the mockup, actual pictures, and 30 second video, the jersey is another beaut done by Rebirth Sports out in Michigan. I must say that this was really daring of both the Ducks and Rebirth to try and make a Neon Yellow (or volt if you prefer) jersey. Using the duck head logo as the shoulder logos looks awesome recolored in silver, dark green and neon yellow. Also, I feel that if you didn't have that dark green yoke then the jersey would be too much yellow, but this looks like a cool and outrageous design only Oregon can pull off. So, what do you guys think? Did they use neon yellow in a way that looks pleasing on a hockey jersey? Is it a success? Positives: The curved stripping goes well with the logo but it also gives the jersey a traditional style to it. The pattern with the arrow heads on the edge of the yoke is a very interesting concept and that little angle you put in the numbers was a good touch to also tie in to the logo.
Negatives: For such detail I would suggest you go with a higher resolution because that could take this concept to a whole new level. Also, I wish you would describe what the arrowhead pattern was for. I'm assuming maybe Native American, similar to the Indianapolis Indians logo design. And get rid of the stitching line within the yoke that divides the shoulder patches from the rest of the yoke.
Overall: 6.5/10
Positives: Very Traditional design but the stripping design itself looks really good. that stripping at the ends of the yokes really add to this design.
Negatives: Your TV numbers could be bigger and maybe the back numbers as well. The space between the back numbers and nameplate looks to wide.
Overall: 7.5/10
Positives: The layout is definitely different compared to some of the other concepts we get and I find it pretty interesting. It's almost a European style.
Negatives: No ID on your concept. the TV numbers are off. This is also really small and hard to see and gets grainy when you want to zoom in to see it.
Overall: 6/10
Positives: The 4-inchers up by the right chest look really good on this and I personally think that's something Carolina could use to improve upon their jerseys. This really gives me a roller hockey jersey feel about it, something that I've always wanted to see NHL teams do (successfully, that is).
Negatives: Same as the other concept.
Overall: 6/10
Positives: The green and black waist stripes are really unique. Also, bringing back the vintage all star game logo and turning it into the alternate patch was a good choice.
Negatives: Lucas, I've seen this arm stripping on 4 different designs of yours now and it's getting old. I want you to remember that it's quality that counts on this website not quantity. Other than the arm stripping minimize the green or black. Your design will look cleaner and that accent will make it stand out more.
Overall: 6.5/10
Positives: The hem and arm stripe with the Fleur De Lis is a must on any Nordiques concept. The stripping is different and that yoke takes it a lot farther design wise.
Negatives: Not really Seeing a negative with this jersey. Maybe move the TV numbers up a bit and add a blue hem stripe, same as the cuffs?
Overall: 8/10
Positives: The logo you did looks awesome and keeping with the teams original colors and adding in that Ducks orange was a good choice for this. Also, good job on the concept and giving the player inline pants instead of keeping them with the ice hockey pants.
Negatives: As cool as the logo is, you slapped it on the alternate jersey recolored in the Bullfrogs colors. That and this was posted in the RHI competition.
Overall: 8.5/10
Positives: Very clever of you to make the oil drop in a waist stripe and add a "EDMONTON" wordmark arched across the chest. Also, the stripping and added oil drops on the sleeves give this jersey a completely new look, unlike anything I've ever seen.
Negatives: I don't think that orange near the yoke and collar has to be so large.
Overall: 9/10 COTW NOMINEE

Alan Herbert- Indy Fuel

Positives: Like I said on the podcast, I feel that the current set is overrated and they need to go to a much more simple design like this. you decisions on this whole design were good Ryan and it is done very well.
Negatives: The TV numbers look a little small.

Couldn't we just give our picks for the first 3 matchups now in a separate Google doc then once the SJ series is determined we make another one for it?

The pattern on the Indy Fuel jersey is what they currently have on their collar. I havent seen an explanation of what it is for though

As an Oregon Ducks fan and Oregon resident I love the jersey. I think that set looks great. However, if I had it my way, they would use their fighting duck logo (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rbckf35EM5g/VgCFNBfLBvI/AAAAAAAAGRY/5wIQpScWToY/s1600/4257_oregon_ducks-alternate-2013.png) as their main crest and the 'O' logo on the shoulder. The fighting duck logo is vastly under utilized by Oregon (in every sport) IMO. I'd probably wear this jersey around.
Ryan C.'s Philly concept is good but it'd be perfect if it had a shoulder patch! The bell would look great here.
Also I love the Oregon jersey, "volt" I believe is copyright by Nike, so if Nike isn't the jersey makers it's probably considered neon yellow. It would be insane to see on the ice...
Unfortunately the Club team is limited to what it can use on their jerseys because they aren't a "official" university sport. Actually, you would be surprised at the amount of club hockey teams who aren't permitted to use Athletic logos. The Florida Gators Club team uses a New York Rangers style script on their jerseys because they aren't permitted to use the gator head or gators script (so I believe). Also, these jerseys, unlike their throwbacks with the shoulder patch of this jersey as the crest, cannot be sold to the public. However, check out their throwbacks and if they get enough orders they'll do another run.
