Wednesday: Yet Another Leak

Hey everyone! it's another Wednesday here at HJC and to keep with the theme lately, I have another leak to discuss!

The San Jose Sharks "Heritage Jersey" was leaked via Twitter user @aj_strong as well as being posted on Instagram (then deleted) by Hockey Giant hockey store.

It's a throwback that people have been wanting to see for years so the response so far has been very positive. For those that don't know, it's a modern version of the team's first uniform. I'd expect their anniversary patch to be added to this jersey when they start wearing them. They'll only be used 3 times this year. I've always been a big proponent of the orange in the Sharks' jerseys but they reduced the orange a while back and overall kind of ruined their jerseys. I'm sure the team will at least think about bringing these things back (hopefully with updated logos) full time.

Speaking about things we do full time here it's voting. And while you're voting get your Chicago Cougars entries in.

COTY-August vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
COTW Aug 30-Sept 5 vote (ends Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)
Chicago Cougars entries (due Friday @ 11:59pm Eastern)

And let's take a look at today's Cougars entries.

Brooks F.

John E.

Ryan C.

Duncan L.

And because I like you guys so much, I'll let you see today's normal batch of concepts.

Carolina Hurricanes Concept - NHL 100th Anniversary - Mario A.
I think Mario is going for throwbacks/fauxbacks for this NHL 100th Anniversary series. If that's the case I'd rather see them return to their original jerseys with the flag pattern than these fauxbacks. I think there's way too much gray here. The gray to me as always looked good as a trim color for the Canes but nothing more. Seeing some other equipment would be cool too.

Rating: 6/10

Winnipeg Jets Concept - Chris J.
I'm not a huge fan of the template used. But I'll look past it. The jersey striping is simple. A little too simple. The white jersey's striping is alright, but the dark jersey's stripng could use more white or silver. There's too much blue in the striping. If it was the same as the white jersey just color swapped it'd be good. As for the logos, they're too big on the jerseys. The wordmark on the dark jersey is alright, but I feel like the logo on the left is slightly too abstract for my taste. Other equipemtn would be neat too.

Rating: 6.5/10

Buffalo Beauts (NWHL) Concept - Zach E.
Better than what they're actually using. Although I do like the use of baby blue in the actual jerseys. The logo is a real stinker so the jersey has to be the savior. I like the arm stripes, but it'd be better if there were two hem stripes to tie everything together. Execution note, everything looks stretched and sized weird so if you're going to resize things, make sure to do it uniformly and not freehand it.

Rating: 7/10

Quebec Nordiques Concept - Mario A.
What if the Nordiques didn't move and used the huskie logo showed above? Mario thinks it could look like this. The jersey design goes with the logo, maybe make it less swoopy and more angled. The color balance is pretty good too. I'm not a fan of the actual design used but I think it looks neat in this color scheme. Seeing some other equipment would be cool too.

Rating: 8/10

Charlotte Checkers Concept - Taylor R.
If the parent team won't wear the flag pattern, the Checkers will gladly take it, especially since it's a checkered pattern. Swap the black and red on the dark socks. I'm a fan of the overall look, but I'm not sold on the color choices made, specifically on the black jersey. what if red and gray were swapped to better match the white jersey? Also, the pants are neat.

Rating: 8/10

Charlotte Checkers Concept - Jordan R.
Pretty basic look for the home and aways. I like them though. Sets them apart from their parent team nicely. The alternate seems to be the real focus here. A nice modern counterpart to the simple primaries. It's not my favorite and it could probably be better, but put me down as a fan.

Rating: 8/10

Bridgeport Sound Tigers Concept - Jordan R.
No more real tiger for Bridgeport, it's now a tiger shark. Clever. And it's a nice looking logo as well. The jerseys are nice, and again, nicely sets them apart from their parent team. The only issue I have though is they now look like a Sharks farm team. The blue should be brighter, like their parent team. Also, I'd rather the shark always be the crest, and the B stay on the shoulders...

Rating: 8.5/10

Vancouver Canucks Concept - Taylor R.
Wow. Taylor brings back the 70's-90's color scheme and makes it look better than it ever did before. The Vs on the shoulders and sleeves are great. What really sets these apart from the actual jerseys the team used during the red/yellow era is the white on the dark jersey. Actually, there wasn't any white anywhere from 78 to 89, and even then there wasn't enough. The color balance is great and Johnny Canuck looks better in these colors. Bravo. I'm still not COMPLETELY sold on Johnny Canuck as a jersey crest, but it looks good. COTW NOM!

Rating: 9.5/10

There it is! Wednesday! Done! Come back next week, but before then... come back tomorrow...and Friday... and so on and so forth.

I second Taylor's COTW nom. Being a Canucks fan, this is something they absoluetly need to do.

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but I think the Sharks jersey is a fake put on by the organization. They posted a video today about the leak, neither confirming nor denying it, and had video looked pre-shot. I think, with all the leaks recently, the Sharks PR team got the idea to release a pic of the original jersey, updated with the new shades of teal and orange. Maybe they're selling it as a separate jersey, or maybe they're not selling it at all. There's been too much hype about it being a mix of the old and new to have it just be a strict remake. I know this a just a vague conspiracy, but it'd be a huge publicity stunt if it were true. Not to mention, they'd have two new jerseys to make money off of, not just that one.

you know Nate, I've had the thought before that a team should totally pull that kind of a stunt.
